What the LG 55XE4F-M is built to do

The LG 55XE4F-M is a 55-inch outdoor display from the XE4F series, designed for locations where the screen is exposed to sunlight, rain, dust and heat rather than sitting in a climate-controlled lobby. It uses a 1920 x 1080 full HD IPS panel that can be set in landscape or portrait orientation and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The housing carries an IP56 rating, and the front is 5 mm tempered, laminated glass with IK10 impact protection and an anti-reflective finish.

Brightness and readability in direct sun

Brightness is the main reason to specify this model. The panel is rated at 4,000 nits typical and 3,200 nits minimum, enough to keep content readable on a screen facing a street or open plaza at midday. The viewing angle is 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically, and a quarter wave plate (QWP) keeps the picture visible to people wearing polarised sunglasses. The backlight has a typical life of 50,000 hours.

Environmental limits and power planning

Operating temperature is specified from -30 °C to 50 °C, with humidity from 10% to 80%. These limits sit above the summer temperatures of 45 °C and more that Qatar often sees, but direct afternoon sun on a dark bezel can still push the enclosure hotter than the surrounding air. The mounting position, shading and airflow should therefore be checked with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation. Connectivity, control and remote monitoring

The unit has two HDMI inputs and one DisplayPort input with HDCP 2.2, plus two RJ45 ports. One RJ45 port works as a LAN input and the other as an HDBaseT input, so a single long cable can carry video, Ethernet, control, USB and IR from an indoor media player. It also provides RS232C in and out, a LAN output, two USB 2.0 Type A inputs and an external speaker output. There is no built-in speaker, no built-in Wi-Fi and no OPS slot. The listed software includes SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Control+ and Connected Care for web-based monitoring, with webOS 4.0 and 16 GB of internal memory.

The bezel measures 38.4 mm at top and bottom and 26 mm at each side.
