Overview

The Biamp Vidi 280 is a 4K conferencing camera with two sensors: a 50 MP wide lens for the full room and an 8 MP ultrawide lens for participants seated close to it. Auto-framing keeps the group in shot as people move, and a built-in five-element microphone array handles audio pickup. Certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom, it suits boardrooms and medium-to-large meeting rooms in Doha. Request a quote.

Two sensors for near and far seats

The Vidi 280 places a 50 MP wide-angle lens and an 8 MP ultrawide lens in one housing. The wide-angle lens covers the whole room, while the ultrawide lens captures people seated close to the camera, which are the participants most likely to be cropped or shrunk when a single lens is used. In a boardroom with a long table, people at the far end and colleagues beside the screen both appear clearly to the remote side. The ultrawide lens has a horizontal field of view of 122 degrees, and the wide-angle lens has 86 degrees.

Auto-framing, zoom and 4K output

Auto-framing follows the people in the room and adjusts the shot as participants arrive, leave or change seats, so the remote audience keeps a composed picture without anyone operating the camera. The wide-angle lens offers up to 16x electronic PTZ zoom, and the ultrawide lens offers up to 3x digital zoom. Output is available at 720p, 1080p or 4K UHD (2160p), all at 30 fps. The 4K signal gives crops and close-ups more detail to work with, so a presenter stays sharp on a large display.

Connection, mounting and what to plan

A single USB Type-C port carries the connection, supporting USB 3.0 with a USB 2.0 compatibility mode, and the camera draws under 4.5 W through it. At 50 mm high, 65 mm wide, 70 mm deep and 160 g, it is compact enough for the top or bottom of a display, and both mounting positions are included. The optional VMA 200-DM side display mount and VMA 200-WM wall mount cover other layouts. A white camera active indicator LED shows the camera's status.

Where the Vidi 280 fits in Qatar

  • Government and ministry boardrooms in Msheireb or Doha: hybrid sessions with colleagues in other cities, where a wide view of the table and a close view of the chair both matter.
  • University seminar rooms in Education City: lecturers who move across the front of the room, with students seated near the lens.
  • Hotel conference rooms in West Bay: a fixed installation for board meetings with overseas clients, mounted once and used by changing guests.

Planning the installation

Three factors decide how well the Vidi 280 performs. First, the ultrawide lens needs a minimum focus distance of 100 cm and the wide-angle lens 500 cm, so seats closer than a metre to the ultrawide lens will not be sharp. Second, the listed ambient operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius with 0 to 95 percent non-condensing humidity. Qatar summer outdoor temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius, so the camera belongs in an air-conditioned room, not on a terrace or in a window-facing lobby. Third, plan the USB Type-C cable route before installation day.

Display position and room layout both affect framing, so SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey before you commit. Quotations usually follow within one working day, and purchase orders or Monaqasat tenders are accepted. Request a quote and the SmartRooms Qatar team will confirm the mounting option and accessories for your room.

Questions about Vidi 280

What is the Biamp Vidi 280 built for?
The Vidi 280 is a conferencing camera for medium and large meeting rooms where some participants sit close to the lens and others sit far from it. Its 50 MP wide-angle and 8 MP ultrawide sensors cover both zones, and auto-framing keeps the group composed during a call. It suits boardrooms, executive meeting rooms and training rooms in Qatar that run hybrid sessions with teams abroad.
How does the dual-lens design work?
Two lenses operate together. The 50 MP wide-angle lens covers the standard room view and autofocuses from 500 cm. The 8 MP ultrawide lens has fixed focus, a 100 cm minimum focus distance and a 122-degree horizontal field of view, so participants seated close to the camera stay in frame. Gallery tiling support then helps remote viewers see everyone more clearly.
Which video resolutions does it output?
The camera supports 720p, 1080p and 2160p, each at 30 frames per second, with 2160p being 4K UHD. Before ordering, confirm with your video platform administrator that your conferencing software and network support the resolution you plan to use, especially for a multi-site call between Doha and overseas offices.
Is the camera certified for Microsoft Teams and Zoom?
Yes. The manufacturer lists the Vidi 280 as certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom. If your ministry, company or school runs Teams Rooms, have your IT team confirm that the room system matches your tenant setup before you request a quote.
How does the camera connect to the room computer?
It connects through one USB Type-C port, supporting USB 3.0 with USB 2.0 compatibility mode, and draws under 4.5 W over that connection. During a site survey, plan the cable route from the display to the room computer or codec so the cable stays hidden and is not stretched across the table.
Can it be mounted above or below a display?
Yes. Top of Display and Bottom of Display mounting are both included. The camera measures 50 mm high, 65 mm wide and 70 mm deep, and weighs 160 g, which keeps it light on a display frame. For a side position or a wall mount, the optional VMA 200-DM side display mount and VMA 200-WM wall mount are available.
Can I install it near a window or in a lobby in Qatar?
Only in an air-conditioned room. The listed ambient operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, with humidity from 0 to 95 percent non-condensing. Qatar summer outdoor temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius, so keep the camera away from terraces, glass-fronted lobbies and any space without climate control.
Is it suitable for a university seminar room in Education City?
Yes, for a seminar room of medium size. A lecturer who moves across the front while students sit near the lens needs both the wide-angle view and the close ultrawide view. Auto-framing follows people as they move, and the five-element microphone array captures audio across the room. Confirm the room capacity and layout when you request a quote.
Is it a good fit for a hotel boardroom in West Bay hosting overseas clients?
A hotel conference room in West Bay that hosts board meetings for overseas clients usually needs a fixed, tidy installation. At 50 mm high, 65 mm wide and 70 mm deep, the Vidi 280 fits above or below a display with the included mounts, and its cable runs to a single USB Type-C port. Ask SmartRooms Qatar for a site survey before fixing the mount.
Does the built-in microphone array replace a room audio system?
The camera includes a five-element microphone array that provides supplemental audio pickup and improves spatial awareness. It is designed to add to meeting audio rather than replace a full room sound system. In a large boardroom with ceiling microphones, check with the installer how the two sources will be combined before ordering.
How close can participants sit before they go out of focus?
The ultrawide lens has a 100 cm minimum focus distance, so people seated closer than one metre to that lens will not be sharp. The wide-angle lens autofocuses from a minimum of 500 cm. In a boardroom layout, position the camera so the closest chair is at least 100 cm away, and check the layout during your site survey.
Can a government office buy several units on one purchase order?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. A ministry or authority equipping several meeting rooms with Vidi 280 cameras can request one quotation covering all units and the VMA 200-DM or VMA 200-WM mounts. Quotations usually arrive within one working day.
