Overview

The BenQ ST8602S is an 86-inch 4K UHD signage display with an Android 8.0 operating system, so it can play content without an external media player. It has three HDMI 2.0 inputs, two USB-A ports for playing media files, an OPS slot for a slot-in PC and a 1200:1 typical contrast ratio. It suits universities, schools and corporate lobbies in Qatar that need a large screen for announcements and wayfinding.

An 86-inch 4K display that runs its own content

The BenQ ST8602S is a non-touch 86-inch signage display from the ST02S series, which BenQ offers in 43, 55, 65, 75 and 86-inch sizes. Its UHD panel delivers 3840 × 2160 pixels in a 16:9 landscape layout, with 400 nits typical brightness, a 1200:1 typical contrast ratio and an 8 ms response time. The ST8602S runs Android 8.0 on a quad-core processor with 3GB of memory and 16GB of storage, so images, video and playlists can be looped from its built-in media player without a separate box.

The panel is rated for 18 hours of operation, seven days a week, with a typical backlight life of 30,000 hours. Those figures suit a screen that stays on through an academic day or the opening hours of a lobby, as long as the room stays within the operating range listed below.

Ports, control and the slot for a PC

Connectivity centres on three HDMI 2.0 inputs, which let a teacher's laptop, a media player and a second source share the screen. There is also a VGA input, a PC audio line-in, an earphone output, two USB-A 2.0 ports for media files and a micro SD card reader. The HDMI output is listed as not available, so the screen cannot pass a signal on to a second display.

Ethernet at 10/100/1000 Mbps for network-managed content
One RS-232 port for control integration
One OPS slot for a slot-in PC that runs Windows applications
No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth; wireless sharing runs through InstaShare 1

A slot-in PC is not among the listed accessories, so state that requirement in your quotation request if you need Windows software on the screen.

Where it fits across Qatar

On a university campus in Education City, the ST8602S can sit in a corridor or dining hall and show timetables, event posters and emergency notices. X-Sign Broadcast lets staff schedule postings and push real-time alerts to chosen displays, so one administrator can update several screens across a building.

A private school in Al Wakrah fitting out a new assembly hall could place an 86-inch unit at the front for school announcements, with the USB port playing a looped slideshow when no laptop is connected. In a hotel lobby in West Bay or a government reception in Msheireb, the same screen can handle wayfinding and welcome content, provided it is installed in an air-conditioned space.

Planning the install: weight, wall and heat

Unit dimensions 1929.0 × 1100.0 × 79.4 mm
Unit weight 50 kg; shipping weight 64.3 kg
VESA 600 × 400 mm with four M8 screws; no wall mount is listed in the accessories
Operating temperature 0°C to 40°C; storage -20°C to 60°C
Power input 100-240V at 50/60Hz, typical consumption 317 W

At 50 kg, the wall or stand must carry the load, so a site survey before installation is worth the time. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys to check the wall, the cable route and the room conditions. The 100-240V input covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains, but the plug type is not listed in the data, so confirm it fits BS 1363 Type G sockets. Summer temperatures above 45°C are common outdoors, so keep the screen out of direct sunlight through windows and confirm the room stays within its operating range all year.

Send us your room plan, wall details and the number of units, and request a quote. Our team usually returns quotations within one working day, and we can supply against an LPO or a Monaqasat tender.

Questions about ST8602S

Who is the BenQ ST8602S for?

The ST8602S suits organisations that need one large, always-on screen for announcements, wayfinding or classroom content without buying a separate media player. In Qatar that typically means a university corridor in Education City, a school hall in Al Wakrah or a hotel lobby in West Bay. It is a signage display rather than an interactive panel, so choose it when people watch the content rather than touch the screen.

Is the ST8602S a touchscreen?

No. The source data lists touch technology, touch points and touch response time as not applicable, so the screen does not accept finger or pen input. It is designed for playing content, showing a presenter's laptop or displaying live feeds. If your project needs touch annotation, ask the SmartRooms Qatar team for a quotation on an interactive display instead.

Can it play video from a USB stick without a PC?

Yes. The built-in media player plays multimedia files directly from a USB stick and can loop them, so no external player is needed. The unit has two USB-A 2.0 ports and a micro SD card reader. A school in Al Wakrah preparing a looped welcome video for its entrance could load the file on a stick, plug it in and leave it running through the school day.

What inputs and outputs does it have?

It has three HDMI 2.0 inputs, one VGA input, one PC audio line-in and one earphone output. Its HDMI output is listed as not available, so it cannot feed a second display. Ethernet at 10/100/1000 Mbps and one RS-232 port are also included. Confirm how many sources you need before ordering, because each laptop, media player or other source uses its own input.

Can I run Windows applications on it?

The unit has one OPS slot, which accepts a slot-in PC so that Windows applications can run on the display itself. The built-in system runs Android 8.0. A slot-in PC is not listed among the included accessories, so state the requirement in your quotation request. Teams in Doha who want one screen for a Windows presentation tool and digital signage can avoid buying a separate notebook this way.

Will it work on Qatar's power supply?

The power input is listed as 100-240V at 50/60Hz, which covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains. Typical power consumption is 317 W and standby draw is below 0.5 W. The plug type is not stated in the data, so confirm it fits BS 1363 Type G sockets. Have your electrician check the circuit rating when several units share one wall or cabinet.

Can it go outdoors or next to a window in summer?

No. The rated operating temperature is 0°C to 40°C with 10% to 80% non-condensing humidity, and the data does not list it as outdoor-rated. Summer temperatures in Doha and Mesaieed can exceed 45°C, so place it in an air-conditioned lobby or classroom away from direct sun. If you are unsure about an entrance or corridor, ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to check the location during a free site survey.

How much weight does the wall need to carry?

The unit weighs 50 kg, or 64.3 kg with packaging, and uses a VESA 600 × 400 mm mounting pattern with four M8 screws. A wall mount is not listed among the accessories, so confirm the bracket and wall structure before ordering. SmartRooms Qatar provides free site surveys, which is useful for a school in Lusail or a hospital waiting area where wall types vary from room to room.

Does it have Wi-Fi for sharing screens from phones?

The source data lists no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Wireless screen sharing is provided through InstaShare 1, which the manufacturer lists on the BenQ App Store. For reliable sharing, connect the unit to the network with its 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet port. Ask your IT team to confirm that the app and the network policy suit your devices before deployment.

How do I update content across several screens?

The software list includes X-Sign Broadcast for scheduling postings and sending real-time alerts, and DMS for device management. A university in Education City with displays in several buildings could schedule event posters from one office and push an emergency notice to all screens at once. Ask SmartRooms Qatar to confirm the software setup suits your network before you order.

Does it have a camera or microphone for hybrid classes?

No. The built-in peripherals list no camera, microphone or motion sensor. The only sensor marked as present is an IR sensor, and the unit has two 10 W speakers. A hybrid lecture hall would need a separate camera and audio solution, so discuss the room layout with the SmartRooms Qatar team when you request a quote.

What do schools and government buyers need to order?

Schools and government offices can order against an LPO or purchase order, pay by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order, and submit through Monaqasat for tenders. For several units, list the sizes, mounting points and cable runs in your request so one quotation covers the full set. Quotations are usually issued within one working day, and the products are covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
