A 49-inch UHD panel for everyday signage

The LG 49UH5Q-E pairs a 49-inch IPS panel with 3,840 x 2,160 resolution in a 16:9 frame. That pixel count keeps timetables, menus and wayfinding text sharp when viewers stand close to the screen. Typical brightness is rated at 500 nits, and the 178 x 178 degree viewing angle keeps content readable from the side of a corridor as well as from the front. The panel supports 10-bit colour, around 1.07 billion colours, and covers 95 percent of the BT709 colour gamut.

Playback and networking without an extra media player

webOS 8.0 runs on the display's own high-performance processor, so many installations can drop a separate media player. The unit has 16GB of internal memory, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and a LAN port. Local scheduling, playback from a URL, USB plug and play and fail-over are built in. For central management, the display works with SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Control+, SuperSign WB, SuperSign Cloud and Mobile CMS, while SNMP, Wake on LAN and HDMI-CEC support help IT teams monitor and control it. SuperSign is sold separately.

Connections include three HDMI inputs supporting 3840x2160 at 60Hz, one DisplayPort input, two USB 2.0 Type A ports, one RJ45 LAN port, RS232C in and out, an IR input and an audio output. IR signals can be daisy-chained through the RS232C ports.

Slim bezels and wall planning for video walls

The even bezel measures 11.4 mm on every side, which keeps the gaps between tiles narrow in a multi-panel wall. Tile mode supports layouts up to 15 by 15 screens, and picture-by-picture mode is available for split-screen messaging. Each unit measures 1104.3 x 635.5 x 29.7 mm and weighs 11.4 kg without packaging (14.2 kg packed). The rear uses a 300 x 300 mm VESA pattern, and with the slim bracket the set sits about 13.5 mm from the wall. Optional mounts are the WB21LMA/B slim wall mount and the OLW480A/B normal wall mount.

Where the 49UH5Q-E fits in Qatar

In The Pearl, a boutique retailer could hang one unit at eye level in a shop corridor to rotate promotions, with content scheduled to change at set times of day. In a government service centre in Msheireb, two or three units can show queue numbers and department directions, with the on-screen menu set to Arabic. A hotel in West Bay might place units in lift lobbies and breakfast areas to show event times and transport information, with content updated from one content management system across the property.

Qatar's summer heat needs careful planning. The rated operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius at 10 to 80 percent humidity, so any position that can exceed that range needs checking. Summer temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius are common here, which makes unshaded windows and outdoor positions unsuitable without review. Planning points before you order

• Confirm the mount: the 300 x 300 mm VESA pattern works with the optional WB21LMA/B slim or OLW480A/B normal wall mount.
• Budget for SuperSign separately if you need central content management.
• Check the supplied power cord against the BS 1363 (Type G) sockets in your building; the unit accepts 100 to 240 V, 50/60 Hz.
• Treat the built-in 10 W x 2 speakers as support audio for quiet spaces, not a replacement for a public address system.
