Overview

The Panasonic TH-55EQ2 is a 55-inch class 4K display from the EQ2 Series, built for digital signage and meeting rooms. It offers 500 cd/m² brightness, an anti-glare panel with 25% haze, three HDMI inputs, a USB Type-C port charging at up to about 60W and an SDM slot for expansion. Suited to classrooms, reception areas and conference rooms across Qatar, it runs up to 18 hours a day.

What the TH-55EQ2 is built for

The TH-55EQ2 is a 55-inch class display from Panasonic's EQ2 Series, made for public and shared spaces where a screen runs for many hours a day. Its 3840 x 2160 panel gives 4K detail across an active area of 1209.6 x 680.4 mm, enough for menus, wayfinding, lesson material and presentation slides that must stay sharp at close reading distance.

Brightness, glare control and viewing angles

Typical brightness is 500 cd/m², with a contrast ratio of 1200:1 and an 8 ms G to G response time. The anti-glare panel carries a 25 percent haze rating, which reduces reflections from windows and ceiling lights, a practical benefit in Doha offices and classrooms with strong daylight. Horizontal and vertical viewing angles are both 178 degrees, so people seated at the sides of a meeting room see the same picture.

Connections for shared rooms

The display offers three HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.2 support, a Mini D-sub 15-pin PC input and a USB Type-C port. Through that port a laptop can send video, charge at up to about 60W and control USB Type-A devices such as cameras or speakerphones connected to the display, keeping the desk tidy. Control is available via RS-232C serial or the RJ45 LAN port, which is PJLink compatible and works with AMX and Crestron systems when main software Ver. 2.61 or later is in use. An SDM slot accepts the receiver board for Panasonic's PressIT wireless presentation system or optional boards such as 12G-SDI and DIGITAL LINK. Those optional boards are sold separately, and Panasonic does not guarantee third-party board operation.

Where it fits in Qatar

  • Classrooms in Al Wakrah: a private school fitting out lesson spaces can run timetable notices and lesson content from a USB stick, while teachers connect laptops through HDMI or USB-C.
  • Meeting rooms in West Bay or Msheireb: one USB-C cable can carry the presentation, charge the laptop and let a room camera and speakerphone be controlled from the same PC.
  • Hotel lobbies and malls in The Pearl or Lusail: the display can loop 4K content for up to 18 hours a day, with schedules set in free Content Management Software and transferred over LAN or USB.

Planning the installation and power

Plan for an 18.0 kg unit measuring 1242 x 713 x 66 mm, with a 13.9 mm bezel and a VESA 400 x 400 mm mounting pattern using M6 holes 18 mm deep. It can be mounted in landscape or portrait and tilted 0 to 20 degrees forward or backward. It draws 280 W in use, approximately 0.5 W on standby and 0.3 W when powered off, and accepts 110 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz. The operating range is 0 to 40 °C and 20 to 80 percent humidity, non-condensing, up to 1400 m altitude. Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45 °C, so install the display in an air-conditioned room and confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before wall mounting in any space that may run warmer.

Questions about TH-55EQ2

Who is the TH-55EQ2 best suited to?
The TH-55EQ2 suits a classroom, small-to-medium meeting room or reception area where one screen must show content all day. Its 55-inch class panel and 4K resolution work well for a room seating a small team, while 500 cd/m² brightness and anti-glare treatment help in rooms with daylight. For a large boardroom or lecture hall, the larger 65-inch or 75-inch models in the same series are usually a better fit.
How bright is the screen and will it show clearly in a sunlit room?
Typical brightness is 500 cd/m² and the panel has an anti-glare treatment with 25 percent haze. This combination reduces reflections from windows, which matters in Doha offices and classrooms with strong daylight. Direct sunlight on the screen face will still reduce contrast, so position the display away from the sun where possible and check the room layout during the free site survey.
Can a laptop connect with one cable?
Yes, through the USB Type-C port. A single cable carries video from the laptop, charges the device at up to about 60W with Power Delivery, and allows USB Type-A devices such as cameras or microphones connected to the display to be controlled from the PC. Keep the combined length of the USB cables at or below 4 m, as the manufacturer specifies.
How many video inputs does it have?
It has three HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.2 support, one PC input on a Mini D-sub 15-pin connector with an audio input, and the USB Type-C port. The SDM slot accepts optional boards that are sold separately. The screen monitor function does not display images from PC YPbPr input or HDCP protected video, so check your sources before you specify the setup.
Can it play adverts from a USB stick without a PC?
Yes. Insert a USB memory stick with saved content and playback starts automatically, with 4K content supported and no PC or set-top box required. Some files may not play even in a supported format, so check the operation manual. Content can be switched over LAN, and multiple displays can be operated with the free Multi Monitoring and Control Software.
How do I manage several displays over the network?
The LAN port is RJ45 with PJLink compatibility and supports AMX and Crestron systems, including Crestron XiO Cloud, when the main software is Ver. 2.61 or later. Serial control via RS-232C is also available. For a school or multi-screen lobby, the Screen Transfer software can distribute images to up to 64 displays over wired LAN. Tell us your network setup and we will recommend the right method.
Is it suitable for an unshaded or non-air-conditioned area in Qatar?
The stated operating range is 0 to 40 °C with 20 to 80 percent non-condensing humidity, up to 1400 m altitude. Qatari summers can exceed 45 °C, so the display should be installed in an air-conditioned room. For semi-open lobbies, gatehouses or any space that may run hotter than 40 °C, confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.
How much space and wall structure do I need?
The panel measures 1242 x 713 x 66 mm and weighs 18.0 kg, with VESA 400 x 400 mm mounting holes (M6, 18 mm deep). Check that the wall or bracket is suitable for that weight, and allow room for the 0 to 20 degree tilt range. A free site survey lets our team check the wall and cable routing before any holes are drilled.
Can it run in portrait for a digital totem?
Yes. The EQ2 Series can be installed in landscape or portrait, and the 0 to 20 degree tilt setting works in either orientation. Portrait mode suits wayfinding in a mall corridor or a directory at a hospital entrance. The portrait zoom feature, which enlarges a portrait image, may reduce picture quality, so test your content on the screen before deployment.
Does it have built-in speakers?
Yes, with a 20W built-in speaker arrangement of 10W plus 10W, so content with sound can play without external speakers. This keeps a wall installation clean in a small room. For a large lecture hall or a noisy atrium, connect external audio through the stereo mini jack audio output, and confirm your existing amplifier accepts that connection.
How much power does it draw in use and on standby?
Power consumption is 280 W in operation, approximately 0.5 W on standby and approximately 0.3 W when powered off. It accepts 110 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz. For a school or government office ordering several units, plan each unit at 280 W in use and ask the installer to confirm socket positions and cabling for the whole group.
Can we order several units under an LPO or government tender?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar supplies on purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, with payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. For a school ordering several 55-inch panels, send the quantity, rooms and mounting walls with your request. Delivery covers all 8 municipalities of Qatar, and a quotation is usually returned within one working day.
