What the Impera Uniform 8U does in a room

The Impera Uniform 8U is a wall-mounted control pad that gives room users one place to switch sources, manage display power, recall lighting presets and adjust audio. Each of its eight mechanical buttons can be configured in software, so the same hardware can serve a boardroom in West Bay with one layout and a classroom in Al Wakrah with another. Button labels, system states and status messages appear on a 2.7-inch high-contrast E Ink display with a resolution of 264 x 172 pixels, shown in black and white.

Seven-colour LED indicators add quick visual feedback to the buttons, so staff can confirm what the room is doing alongside the on-screen labels.

Control connections and automation

• Serial control: one bidirectional RS-232 port and two unidirectional RS-232 ports, with baud rates from 1200 to 115200 bit/sec and selectable data bits, parity and stop bits.
• Network devices: a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port, with support listed for two third-party devices and eight Biamp devices.
• Automation inputs and outputs: three GPIO ports for sensors, switches and relays, with open-drain outputs rated at up to 24 VDC and 0.5 A.
• Infrared: an IR frequency range from 381 Hz to 200 kHz for compatible remote-controlled equipment.

The bidirectional RS-232 port can both send commands and receive responses, which helps when a control system needs to confirm that a display has changed state. The two unidirectional ports send commands only. An expansion bus supports up to eight additional keypads or port expanders, so a larger room or a group of linked rooms can grow without replacing the first pad.

Power over Ethernet and installation planning

The pad draws its power from the network cable under IEEE 802.3at Class 1, rated at 4W, with consumption below 4W at maximum. One CAT5e or CAT6 cable carries both data and power, so no separate mains adapter is needed at the wall. Your network switch or PoE injector in the comms cabinet must supply Class 1 power on that port. The package includes an in-wall mounting bracket with mounting screws and wall plugs. Measuring 94 mm high, 76 mm wide and 15 mm deep, and weighing 84 g, the pad is compact enough for standard wall positions. The data lists an ambient operating range of 0 to 40°C, humidity from 10 to 90% non-condensing, and altitude up to 2,000 m.
