What the DCM-XEX adds to a Devio UCX room

The DCM-XEX is an expansion ceiling microphone built for Devio UCX meeting room systems, and it cannot run on its own. It connects to a DCM-X or DCM-XA host microphone and adds pickup points where the host alone leaves gaps, such as a larger or irregularly shaped room. The black surface-mount housing measures 5.9 inches (150 mm) across and stands 0.7 inches (17 mm) tall excluding the ceiling mount, so it stays low against dark ceilings. It weighs 0.7 lbs (340 g).

Coverage, tracking and audio figures

A 16-element digital array feeds four 90° zones, which together cover a full 360° area. Beamtracking follows active talkers automatically, so presenters do not need to aim a lobe or adjust settings during a call. The key audio figures are:

• Frequency response of 150 Hz to 16 kHz, within ±3 dB
• Signal-to-noise ratio above 76 dB at 1 kHz
• Maximum sound pressure level of 109 dB at under 1% THD
• Dynamic range of 92 dB, A-weighted
• Active beamformed polar pattern

Each DCM-XEX uses one acoustic echo cancellation channel, and that stays true when a TCM-XEX is daisy-chained behind it. A green and red mute LED shows the microphone state, so participants and the chair can see at a glance whether the microphone is live or muted.

Installation and wiring in practice

Installation uses a single CAT5 connection from the DCM-XEX to the network box on the host microphone. The RJ-45 connector is specified with a 6.6 ft (2 m) cable length. The maximum distance between the DCM-XEX and its DSP host device is 33 ft (10 m), so plan the ceiling position relative to the host before any cable is pulled. Power is custom and proprietary, so confirm the power arrangement with the system design before ordering. The unit is evaluated to UL 2043 and is suitable for air handling spaces, which matters where the ceiling void carries air for the building's ventilation.

Where it fits in Qatar

In a boardroom in West Bay, a single host microphone may leave the far end of a long table thinly covered. One DCM-XEX placed at that end closes the gap without adding a second visible unit on the table. In a training room at Education City, rows of seats set well back from the main table are another fit, because an expansion unit extends pickup beyond the host's position.
