Overview

The Biamp Tesira EX-LOGIC is a half-rack PoE logic expander that adds 16 logic connections to a Tesira audio DSP system. Twelve are logic-only, and four can also read a variable voltage such as a potentiometer. It connects over Ethernet to a Tesira SERVER, SERVER-IO or TesiraFORTÉ and draws power from PoE. It suits schools, meeting rooms and event venues in Doha that need wall buttons and contact closures to control sound reinforcement.

What the Tesira EX-LOGIC adds to a Tesira audio system

The Tesira EX-LOGIC is a half-rack expander for Tesira audio DSPs. It does not add audio channels. It adds control points: 16 connections that can each be set as an input or an output in the Tesira software. Contact closures from wall buttons, switches or sensors can recall presets, mute channels, duck audio, combine rooms or start paging functions. Outputs can light status indicators, drive relays, or send a logic signal to other controllable equipment.

Each unit connects to a Tesira SERVER, SERVER-IO or TesiraFORTÉ over Ethernet, and that same link carries data transmission, configuration and control. The EX-LOGIC is powered by PoE under IEEE 802.3at Class 1 at 4W, so it does not need its own mains outlet at the equipment location. A PoE source must still be available on the network.

Connection and control facts that matter in planning

Twelve of the 16 connections are logic-only. They accept contact closure or 5V TTL signals as inputs, and their open-collector outputs are rated to sink up to 40V. The remaining four can also be used as variable voltage control inputs, for example to take a potentiometer for local level control. A serial port sends command strings to other equipment in the system, so one button press can trigger a Tesira action and a command on a second device.

Connections use plug-in barrier strip terminals, and front-panel LEDs show device status during commissioning and fault checks. The chassis measures 44 mm high, 216 mm wide and 197 mm deep, and weighs 1 kg. The unit is compliant with the United States Trade Agreement Act (TAA).

Where it fits in Qatar

  • A university lecture theatre in Education City: a wall panel recalls presets for lecture, discussion and break modes, while a potentiometer at the lectern sets the room level.
  • A hotel ballroom in West Bay: contact inputs at an operable wall trigger room combining, and an output drives an indicator so event staff can see the room configuration.
  • A government auditorium in Msheireb: a controlled paging input and status relays link the audio system to a reception desk, while the serial port sends commands to a second system.

The details of each scenario depend on the building and the equipment connected, so treat these as examples rather than a fixed design.

What to plan before ordering

  • Confirm which Tesira server or FORTÉ unit your system uses, and that it sits on the same Ethernet control network as a PoE source.
  • Check the CE position: the manufacturer notes CE compliance requires a CE-marked PoE insertion device.
  • Map each of the 16 connections to its function before wiring, so inputs and outputs are not mixed up on site.
  • Confirm the operating environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team, especially for comms rooms in summer, because the data we hold does not list an operating temperature range.

SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys, so we can check rack space, cable routes and the Ethernet and PoE arrangement before you commit. Quotations are usually issued within one working day, and we deliver to all eight municipalities of Qatar. Purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, are accepted. Request a quote for the Biamp Tesira EX-LOGIC and tell us how many units you need and which Tesira server you use.

Questions about Tesira EX-LOGIC

What is the Biamp Tesira EX-LOGIC used for?
It is a half-rack logic expander for Tesira audio DSPs that adds 16 logic connections for control. Use it when a room needs wall buttons, contact closures or a potentiometer to trigger presets, mutes, ducking, room combining or paging. It adds control points rather than audio channels, so it suits sound reinforcement projects in schools, meeting rooms and event venues across Doha.
How many logic connections does it provide, and how do they work?
The EX-LOGIC provides 16 connections that can each be set as inputs or outputs. Twelve are logic-only and accept contact closure or 5V TTL signals as inputs, with open-collector outputs rated to 40V. The other four can also be used as variable voltage control inputs, such as a potentiometer for local level control.
Which Tesira units can the EX-LOGIC connect to?
The EX-LOGIC connects over Ethernet to a Tesira SERVER, SERVER-IO or TesiraFORTÉ. That Ethernet link carries data transmission, configuration and control. Before ordering, confirm which server or FORTÉ unit your system uses and that it sits on the same control network, so the expander can be configured from the Tesira software.
How is the EX-LOGIC powered, and do I need a separate power supply?
It is powered by PoE under IEEE 802.3at Class 1 at 4W, so it does not need its own mains outlet at the equipment location. A PoE source must be available on the Ethernet network. The manufacturer notes that CE compliance requires the PoE insertion device to be CE marked, so check this when you specify your switch or injector.
Can it take a potentiometer for local level control?
Yes. Four of the 16 connections can be configured as variable voltage control inputs, which is how a potentiometer interface is used. For example, a lectern in a lecture theatre at Education City could carry a local level control wired to one of these connections, while the rest of the room is managed from the Tesira software.
How could it be used in a university lecture theatre in Education City?
A wall panel with contact closures can recall presets for lecture, discussion and break modes, or mute a microphone channel during breaks. Inputs can control actions such as presets and mutes, and outputs can drive a status indicator outside the door so staff know when the room is in use. Plan the connections against the teaching timetable before wiring.
Is it suitable for combining rooms in a hotel ballroom in West Bay?
It can be, because inputs can control room combining within the Tesira software. A contact input at an operable wall can trigger a combine action, and an output can drive an indicator for event staff showing the current configuration. Confirm the number of partitions and the wiring route with a site survey before ordering.
What does the serial port do?
The serial port outputs command strings that send action commands to other equipment in the system. This lets one trigger, such as a contact closure from a wall button, cause an action on the Tesira system and a command on a second device. Check the command format that the second device requires before commissioning.
How much rack space does the EX-LOGIC need?
The EX-LOGIC is a half-rack chassis measuring 44 mm high, 216 mm wide and 197 mm deep, and it weighs 1 kg. Measure your rack or cabinet and plan cable routes for the barrier strip connections before ordering. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys to confirm space, cable routes and the Ethernet and PoE arrangement.
Can it be installed in a hot comms room during Qatar summers?
The manufacturer data we hold does not list an operating temperature range, so we cannot confirm one from the source. Summer temperatures in Qatar regularly exceed 45°C, so check the room's cooling capacity and ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to confirm the environment before installing equipment in a poorly ventilated space.
Does the EX-LOGIC come with a warranty?
Yes. The manufacturer data lists a 5-year warranty for the Tesira EX-LOGIC, and the unit is TAA compliant. SmartRooms Qatar supplies it under the manufacturer's warranty. Ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to confirm the warranty terms that apply to your order when you receive your quotation.
Can we buy it through an LPO or a government tender?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Quotations are usually issued within one working day. Send us the number of EX-LOGIC units and your Tesira server model, and we will quote the expander as part of your system.
