What the TesiraCONNECT TC-5 does in a conference room

The TesiraCONNECT TC-5 is a five-port Gigabit expansion unit for Biamp Tesira conferencing systems. It carries power and media to the devices around the table, including Tesira AVB DSPs, USB extenders, PoE+ amplifiers and microphones, so each device can share a single category cable back to the unit instead of needing its own supply and network link. In a room with several Biamp devices, that reduces the cabling a technician has to pull and terminate.

The unit also removes the need for a third-party network switch in the room. According to the manufacturer data, it works with Tesira products without any device configuration, which keeps the setup straightforward for an integrator.

Ports, power budget and connections that matter

Of the five RJ-45 ports, four supply PoE+ under IEEE 802.3at Class 4, rated at 30 W per port, with a combined PoE budget of 120 W. That budget is the figure to check before you commit. Four full-power endpoints at 30 W each would consume the entire allocation, so plan the load on each port rather than assuming every port can run at maximum.

The fifth port is used to connect a DSP or to daisy-chain another TC-5. Up to four units can be chained together, and the system is specified for 150 AVB streams and 13 supported endpoints. All five ports run at 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps. Front-panel LEDs show power, device status, faults and per-port status, while rear-panel LEDs show link and activity on every port.

• Mounting options include a wall, under a table, above a ceiling or inside a credenza.

Qatar summer temperatures regularly exceed 45°C, while the rated ambient range stops at 40°C. If the TC-5 goes above a ceiling or into a credenza, confirm that the space is air-conditioned and that heat can escape before you finalise the layout.
