What the UC BM45 is and how it picks up voices

The MAXHUB UC BM45 is a round speakerphone that sits in the middle of a meeting table and handles both microphone pick-up and speaker playback in one unit. It measures 122mm in diameter and 65mm high, weighs 472g, and ships with a table bracket. Its eight microphones give a best voice pick-up range of 4m (13.1 ft) and a maximum of 8m (26.2 ft), so the seating plan matters more than the total size of the room: participants at the far end of a long table should sit within the best range.

The speaker is rated at a maximum output of 5W, with a bandwidth of 100Hz to 20kHz and a sound pressure level of 76dB at 1m. These figures are worth checking against the size of the room and the materials of its walls and table.

Audio processing built for real meetings

Four audio functions do most of the work. AI noise suppression removes background sounds such as keyboard clicks and air conditioning and concentrates on human voices, which matters in Doha meeting rooms where air conditioning runs for long hours. Full-duplex audio lets both ends speak at once, so a call with colleagues abroad does not stop each time someone interrupts. Acoustic echo cancellation and automatic gain control keep the far end free of echo and keep the level of voices steady.

Connectivity and expanding coverage

• USB-C: one port for connecting to a computer, with a 3m (9.8ft) USB-C to USB-A cable in the box.
• RJ45 PoE in: connects to a PoE switch, to a preceding UC BM45 in a cascade, or to the mic-in of a MAXHUB V7 XBoard.
• RJ45 PoE out: passes the connection on to the next UC BM45 in a daisy chain.
• DC in: 54V and 0.925A, with the power adapter included.

Cascading uses Cat5e cable and lets one room use several units for wider coverage. No drivers are needed, so the unit can be connected and used without installing separate software.
