What the Nearity A50 captures in a room

The Nearity A50 is a ceiling-mounted array microphone designed for rooms where the speaker moves around or the audience sits far from the front. Its 91 MEMS microphones work together so a voice is picked up whether the person is at the lectern, in an aisle or at a distant table. The rated effective pickup range is 10m x 10m (33ft x 33ft), which suits larger meeting rooms and lecture halls rather than small huddle spaces.

Three adjustable beam options let the installer shape coverage to the room layout. Because coverage is the first decision on any ceiling array project, the beam setup should be checked against the seating plan before the unit is ordered.

Beamforming, noise control and echo handling

Twelve deep sidelobe beamforming focuses pickup on the talker and reduces sound arriving from other directions. On top of that, the A50 applies AI noise suppression, echo cancellation, smart reverberation control, howling suppression and automatic gain control (AGC). Together these functions target the problems that make classroom and conference audio hard to follow: background noise, hard surfaces that blur speech, and feedback when loudspeakers and microphones share the same room.

Full-duplex operation supports audio in both directions at once, which matters in remote conferences where both ends need to speak without cutting each other off.

Power, cabling and daisy-chaining

The A50 is powered by its DSP over PoE through a UTP CAT6 cable, so a single Ethernet run carries both power and audio. The unit has two RJ45 Ethernet ports, and up to eight units can be daisy-chained in one chain. In a long hall, this lets you cover the room with several pickup points on one network path instead of running separate audio lines.
