Overview

The Panasonic AW-HE20 is a compact remote PTZ camera with a 1/2.8-type MOS sensor, Full HD output and a 12x optical zoom that reaches a 71-degree wide view. It runs on PoE+ over a single network cable and offers SDI, HDMI, IP and USB Type-C outputs. Positioned as a high-quality entry model, it suits smaller meeting rooms, huddle spaces and classrooms in Doha, Lusail and Education City that run hybrid sessions.

What the AW-HE20 is and where it fits

The Panasonic AW-HE20 is a remote pan-tilt-zoom camera built for meeting rooms, huddle spaces and classrooms that need to share video with people outside the room. Panasonic positions it as a high-quality entry model in its remote PTZ range. Its compact body can sit on a desk or hang from a ceiling without taking up space the room needs for people.

Image quality and framing

A 1/2.8-type MOS sensor with approximately 8,460,000 effective pixels produces Full HD 1920 x 1080 video at 50p or 60p, depending on the output format selected. The 12x optical zoom runs from f=3.9 mm to 46.8 mm (35 mm equivalent 26.4 mm to 316.4 mm) with an aperture of F1.6 to F2.8. At its widest, the horizontal field of view is 71.0 degrees, the figure that matters most in a small room because it captures a full table from a short distance. At the tele end it narrows to 6.0 degrees, enough to frame a presenter at the far wall. Minimum illumination is 0.4 lx, but good lighting remains the biggest factor in picture quality.

Connectivity: one cable and several outputs

The AW-HE20 supports PoE+ under IEEE802.3at, so a single network cable can carry power, control and video. The PoE+ input is DC 42.5 V to 57 V and the camera draws 0.4 A from it. Without PoE, the supplied AC adapter provides 12 V DC and the camera draws 1.3 A. Video leaves the camera through 3G-SDI (75 ohm BNC, Level-A supported), HDMI (4:4:4 at 8 bit), IP and USB Type-C, and SDI, HDMI and IP outputs can be activated at the same time. The HDMI output does not support HDCP or Viera Link, so plan it for ordinary meeting and classroom sources rather than protected content.

Streaming and USB use

With the PTZ Virtual USB driver and a LAN connection, the camera presents video and audio to a computer in the same way a USB camera does, and the manufacturer states this supports video platforms including Panopto. The USB output handles 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720 and 640 x 360 in MJPEG or H.264. For live broadcasting, RTMP and RTMPS push H.264 streams directly from the camera to services such as YouTube Live and Facebook Live, with bit rates from 1024 kbps to 32768 kbps over RTMP and up to 8192 kbps over RTMPS. An MIC/LINE 3.5 mm input allows audio to be added to SDI, HDMI, IP and USB feeds.

Qatar scenarios

  • A huddle room in Lusail: a team of four to six around a small table, with the camera mounted at the back of the room so remote colleagues see the whole space.
  • A university seminar room in Education City: a lecturer moving in front of the board, with the operator using the zoom to switch between a wide shot of the class and a tighter frame of the presenter.
  • A government boardroom in Msheireb: a session with teams abroad over IP, while SDI or HDMI keeps a local feed running at the same time.

Planning the installation

  • Dimensions are W 165.1 mm x H 176.2 mm x D 176.1 mm, excluding protrusions, cable cover and mounting bracket.
  • The stated weight of approximately 1.9 kg excludes the ceiling mounting bracket, so include the bracket in your load calculation.
  • Network runs can reach 100 m for IP cable with a PoE+ hub, and 1000 m for AW protocol LAN cable.
  • Ambient operating temperature is 0 °C to 40 °C and storage is -20 °C to 50 °C. Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45 °C, so keep the camera in an air-conditioned room, away from outdoor locations and sun-facing windows.
  • Pan range is ±170 degrees and tilt is -30 to 90 degrees, so check the sightline before fixing the bracket.

Choosing a finish and requesting a quote

The AW-HE20 is available in white (AW-HE20W) or black (AW-HE20K), so you can match the finish to the room. Share the room dimensions, seating, the sources you need to connect and the output types required, and the SmartRooms Qatar team will prepare a quotation, usually within one working day. A free site survey can confirm the fixing point and cable route before installation. Request a quote today.

Questions about AW-HE20

What is the Panasonic AW-HE20 used for?
The AW-HE20 is a remote PTZ camera for video meetings, online classes and hybrid sessions. It combines a 1/2.8-type MOS sensor, Full HD output and a 12x optical zoom with a 71-degree wide horizontal view, so it can cover a whole room from a small footprint. It suits meeting rooms, huddle spaces and classrooms where some participants join from elsewhere.
Can the AW-HE20 work as a USB webcam on a computer?
Yes. It has a USB Type-C connector and, with the PTZ Virtual USB driver over a LAN connection, presents video and audio to a computer the same way a USB camera does. USB output supports 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720 and 640 x 360 in MJPEG or H.264. Ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to confirm which conferencing software your organisation uses before ordering.
Does the camera support PoE, and how many cables do I need?
It supports PoE+ under IEEE802.3at, with a DC 42.5 V to 57 V input, and draws 0.4 A over PoE+. Power, control and video can share one network cable. An IP cable can run up to 100 m when used with a PoE+ hub, and an AW protocol LAN cable up to 1000 m. Without PoE, the supplied AC adapter provides 12 V DC and the camera draws 1.3 A.
Can I stream live to YouTube Live or Facebook Live from it?
Yes. RTMP and RTMPS let the camera stream directly to live broadcasting services such as YouTube Live and Facebook Live. H.264 streams over RTMP run from 1024 kbps to 32768 kbps, while RTMPS is capped at 8192 kbps. H.264 and H.265 resolution options include 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720 and 640 x 360.
We have a huddle room in Lusail. Will the 71-degree view cover a small table?
At its widest, the 71.0-degree horizontal field of view captures a small table in full from a short distance, which suits a four to six seat huddle room in Lusail or The Pearl. Zooming in to 6.0 degrees gives a close shot of the presenter. Mounting the camera at the back of the room or on a high shelf gives the widest framing. A free site survey can check the sightline before installation.
Is it suitable for a university seminar room in Education City?
It suits small and medium seminar rooms and lecture spaces in Education City where the lecturer moves in front of the board. The 12x optical zoom, equal to 26.4 mm to 316.4 mm on a 35 mm basis, lets an operator move from a wide view of the class to a tight frame of the lecturer. Large halls with seating far from the front need the throw distance confirmed with the SmartRooms Qatar team before purchase.
Can a boardroom in Msheireb share sessions with teams abroad?
Yes. SDI, HDMI and IP outputs can be activated at the same time, so a local display or recording system can receive SDI or HDMI while an IP stream goes to teams abroad. The camera pans ±170 degrees and tilts from -30 to 90 degrees, which lets you frame both the table and the screen. Confirm the connection plan with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.
Can it be installed outdoors or in a room without air conditioning?
The rated ambient operating temperature is 0 °C to 40 °C, and storage is -20 °C to 50 °C. Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45 °C, so do not mount the camera outdoors, near a sun-facing window or in an unventilated room. Install it indoors in an air-conditioned space, and confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.
How much space and weight should I plan for when mounting it?
Dimensions are W 165.1 mm x H 176.2 mm x D 176.1 mm, excluding protrusions, cable cover and mounting bracket. The weight is approximately 1.9 kg, also excluding the ceiling bracket, so check the bracket weight separately. The camera can stand on a desk or hang from a ceiling, and you should allow room for the cable run and the ±170-degree pan range. A free site survey helps confirm the fixing point before drilling.
Does the HDMI output support HDCP or Viera Link?
No. The manufacturer data states that HDCP is not supported on the HDMI output and that Viera Link is not supported. The HDMI output runs at 4:4:4 with 8-bit colour and outputs formats such as 1080/60p and 1080/50p. Plan it for standard meeting and classroom sources, and check compatibility with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering if your system relies on protected content.
How is the camera controlled, and which controllers work with it?
The camera supports IP control through a LAN terminal at 100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T, RS-232C through Mini DIN 8-pin connectors, and RS-422 through RJ-45. Compatible controllers and application software are listed in Panasonic's compatibility chart for operation devices. Panasonic's PTZ Control Center centralised control software is also part of the range. Check your controller model against that chart before ordering.
Our school in Al Wakrah needs several units. Can we issue an LPO?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, with payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. For several units, list each classroom or hall with its mounting type, desktop or hanging, and the output needed, whether SDI, HDMI or IP. The team can prepare the quotation against that list. Request a quote with the list attached.
