Overview

The Panasonic AW-UE4 is a compact 4K PTZ conference camera that outputs 4K UHD at 29.97p or 25p over HDMI, LAN or USB. Its 111° ultra-wide lens captures a whole room from one position, and it runs on PoE or USB power over a single cable. It suits meeting rooms, lecture theatres and training rooms across Qatar. Request a quote for supply and installation.

What the AW-UE4 captures and outputs

The Panasonic AW-UE4 is a compact pan-tilt-zoom camera built for rooms where one lens has to cover the whole space. It uses a 1/2.5-type MOS sensor behind a lens with a 111° horizontal field of view when distortion correction is off, and 108° when it is on. The camera outputs 4K UHD, and it also supports 1080 and 720 formats at several frame rates for systems that do not need full 4K.

Panasonic lists 4K output at 30p, 29.97p and 25p, but notes that the actual UHD output is 29.97p or 25p. Plan your display and recording chain around those two rates.

Key specifications and what they mean in use

  • Movement: manual pan of ±110° and tilt of ±25°, with 4x digital zoom.
  • Low light: minimum illumination of 4 lx under the stated test conditions, with gain up to 42 dB.
  • Audio: built-in stereo microphone with mute and automatic level control.
  • Streaming: MJPEG, H.264 and H.265, over RTSP, RTMP and RTMPS.
  • Finish: AW-UE4WG in white or AW-UE4KG in black.

Connecting it with one cable

Power over Ethernet (PoE) to IEEE 802.3at, with a 37 V to 57 V input, lets a single LAN cable carry both power and control. Without PoE, the camera can draw 5 V from a computer's USB port, which removes the need for an AC adapter in a USB-only setup. HDMI output does need an AC adapter or PoE supply. The RJ-45 LAN port handles IP control, and the manufacturer lists the AW-RP60GJ and AW-RM50G controllers as supported. HDCP and Viera Link are not supported on the HDMI output, so check the rest of your AV chain before ordering. With a PoE hub, cable runs of up to 100 m are supported using Category 5e or above.

Where it fits in Qatar

A private school in Al Wakrah recording lessons in a single hall can mount one unit high on a wall to cover the stage and seating. A training centre in Education City or Lusail running hybrid courses can stream lectures over RTMP to remote learners, or use the USB output for a live call from the instructor's laptop. In a Doha boardroom in West Bay where meetings connect with teams abroad, the wide 111° view helps keep most of the table in frame from one camera position.

Planning the installation and environment

Decide early between desktop and suspended installation, as both are supported. The body measures 123 mm wide, 131 mm high and 139 mm deep, or 152 mm deep with the mount bracket, and weighs about 0.5 kg without the bracket. Keep subjects at least 700 mm from the lens, which is the single focus distance. The ambient operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C at 20 to 90 percent humidity without condensation, so install in an air-conditioned room away from direct sunlight and window glare. Summer temperatures in Qatar can pass 45 °C, so confirm the mounting position with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.

Request a quote with your room size, preferred mounting and the video system you use. SmartRooms Qatar usually replies with a quotation within one working day, offers free site surveys, and delivers to all eight municipalities of Qatar with professional installation. Purchase orders and government tenders are welcome.

Questions about AW-UE4

What is the Panasonic AW-UE4 designed for?
The AW-UE4 suits rooms where one lens must cover the whole space, such as a lecture theatre at a university in Education City or a boardroom in West Bay. Its 111° horizontal field of view, with distortion correction off, captures a wide scene from a single mounting point. It sends video to a display, recorder or computer over HDMI, LAN or USB, so it fits both presentation and video call setups.
What resolution and frame rates does the AW-UE4 output?
The camera supports 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) and HD formats including 1080 and 720 at several frame rates, including 60p and 50p. Panasonic lists 4K at 30p, 29.97p and 25p, but states that the actual UHD output is 29.97p or 25p. Before ordering, confirm that your display or recording system in the lecture hall or meeting room accepts 4K at those rates.
How is the AW-UE4 powered, and does it need an adapter?
It can draw power over PoE from a single LAN cable, to IEEE 802.3at with a 37 V to 57 V input, or from a computer's USB port at 5 V. USB operation draws 1.0 A, while PoE draws 0.2 A. HDMI output requires either an AC adapter or PoE supply. A USB-only webcam setup therefore works without any adapter.
Will the AW-UE4 work with my existing HDMI display or switcher?
The HDMI output uses a 4:4:4 signal at 8 bits, but HDCP is not supported and Viera Link is not supported. Before you order, check that the display, matrix switcher or recorder in your boardroom or classroom accepts an unprotected 4:4:4 8-bit signal. SmartRooms Qatar can review your existing AV chain during a free site survey, so you do not buy a camera that cannot feed your current system.
Can the AW-UE4 work as a USB webcam for video calls?
Yes. The Type-C USB port operates as a USB Video Class 1.1 webcam with YUV and MJPEG formats. MJPEG reaches 3840 x 2160 and 1920 x 1080, while YUV is limited to 640 x 360. A lecturer in Al Khor running a live call from a laptop can connect the camera with one USB cable, because the port also supplies its power. Audio output is stereo at 48 kHz and 16-bit.
How far can the camera sit from the network switch?
The IP connecting cable can run up to 100 m. When a PoE hub is used, the cable must be Category 5e or above, and without a PoE hub, Category 5 or above is required. In a private school in Al Wakrah with the camera mounted at the far end of a long hall, check cable routes during the site survey and count patch panels and joins within the 100 m limit.
Can the AW-UE4 be controlled over IP and used for live streaming?
Yes. The RJ-45 LAN port handles IP control, and the source data lists the AW-RP60GJ and AW-RM50G as supported controllers. For streaming, the camera supports MJPEG over HTTP, H.264 and H.265 over RTSP, and RTMP and RTMPS. H.264 and H.265 reach 3840 x 2160 at bit rates from 1024 kbps to 32768 kbps, so a training centre in Education City can choose a rate that suits its internet link.
How does the AW-UE4 perform in low light?
Its minimum illumination is 4 lx under test conditions of 50 IRE, 42 dB gain and a 1/60 shutter speed. Gain can be set to automatic or between 0 and 42 dB in 3 dB steps, and shutter modes include full auto and manual. White balance options are ATW, AWB A, AWB B, 3200K and 5600K. In a hotel ballroom in Doha that hosts evening events under dimmed lighting, test the picture at the final mounting position before you settle on it.
Can I install the AW-UE4 near a window or in a hot space in Qatar?
The ambient operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C, with 20 to 90 percent humidity and no condensation. Storage is rated from -20 °C to 50 °C. Qatar summers can exceed 45 °C, so keep the camera in an air-conditioned room away from direct sunlight, window glare and hot equipment. For a site office in Mesaieed or an industrial area, confirm the mounting environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.
What size is the AW-UE4 and how should I plan the mounting?
The body measures 123 mm wide, 131 mm high and 139 mm deep, or 152 mm deep with the mount bracket, and weighs about 0.5 kg without the bracket. It can sit on a desk or be suspended from a ceiling. Keep subjects at least 700 mm from the lens, the single focus distance. In a Lusail meeting room, measure camera height and sightlines before the free site survey.
Can we order several units under an LPO, and which colours are available?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order, with delivery to all eight municipalities of Qatar. The AW-UE4 comes in white (AW-UE4WG) or black (AW-UE4KG). A private school in Doha equipping several classrooms can standardise on one colour and order in a single batch, with lead times confirmed in the quotation.
