Overview

The Panasonic AW-UE40 is a remote 4K PTZ conference camera with a 1/2.5-type sensor, 24x optical zoom and a 74.1 degree wide view. It takes power, control and video over one PoE+ cable and streams via SRT, NDI HX2 (paid upgrade) and RTMP. It suits classrooms, lecture halls and boardrooms in Doha and beyond that mix in-room and online sessions. Request a quote.

A 4K PTZ camera for rooms that mix in-person and online sessions

The Panasonic AW-UE40 is a remote pan-tilt-zoom camera built around a 1/2.5-type 4K MOS sensor with approximately 8,490,000 effective pixels and a 24x optical zoom. One unit can cover a classroom, lecture room or boardroom without a dedicated camera operator. It is available in white (AW-UE40W) or black (AW-UE40K), so it can match a ceiling or wall finish during a fit-out.

Optics and picture quality for larger rooms

The motorised lens runs from 4.12 mm to 98.9 mm at F1.8 to F4.0. Its horizontal angle of view spans 74.1 degrees at the widest setting down to 3.3 degrees at full telephoto. The horizontal resolution is rated at 1,500 TV lines in UHD and 1,000 TV lines in Full HD, measured in the centre area. Intelligent zoom extends the range to 28x in UHD and 36x in Full HD, and digital extender zoom of 1.4x and 2x is also listed. Optical image stabilisation can be switched on from the menu, and minimum illumination is 3 lx at F1.8.

Power, control and cabling over a single network cable

With PoE+ (IEEE802.3at), one LAN cable carries power, control and video. The PoE+ supply range is DC 42 to 57 V, and the camera draws 0.6 A from it. Without PoE+, the supplied AC adapter provides 12 V DC and draws 1.8 A. IP control runs over RJ-45 at 100BASE-TX or 1000BASE-T, and an RS-422 control input is also fitted. Pan speeds are 60 degrees per second in normal mode, 90 degrees per second in Fast1 and 180 degrees per second in Fast2, with a pan range of plus or minus 175 degrees and a tilt range of -30 to 90 degrees. Privacy Mode turns the lens to face the back when the camera is on standby.

Streaming and connection options

  • USB: a USB 2.0 device port with a Type-C connector, compatible with UVC and UAC, without bus power.
  • HDMI: HDMI 1.4 output at 4:2:2 10-bit. HDCP and Viera Link are not supported.
  • IP streaming: JPEG, H.264 and H.265, with SRT for stable transmission over unstable networks.
  • Live platforms: RTMP and RTMPS send video directly to services such as YouTube Live and Facebook Live.
  • NDI HX2: low-bitrate transmission over a single LAN cable, available as an optional paid upgrade.

Where the AW-UE40 fits in Qatar

A university training centre in Education City can mount the camera at the back of a seminar room and stream sessions to a remote cohort. A government ministry boardroom in West Bay can run meetings that connect Doha with teams abroad, with the camera framing the table at wide angle and tightening on the presenter. A training room in the Industrial Area can hang the camera from the ceiling and feed a laptop over USB for the company's online induction sessions.

What to plan before you order

  • Check the subject distance. Focus distance is 100 mm at the wide end and 1,200 mm across the full zoom range.
  • Plan the environment. The operating range is 0 to 40 degrees C, so the camera belongs in a cooled indoor room, not an unshaded or window-facing position where summer heat exceeds 45 degrees C.
  • Confirm the power route. Use a PoE+ switch port or the 12 V DC adapter, and check the switch budget first.
  • Measure cable runs. IP connections allow up to 100 m of category 5e cable.
  • Choose the mount. The camera stands on a desk or hangs from a ceiling bracket, bringing total weight to about 2.05 kg.

SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to confirm mounting height, cable routes and the room layout before installation. Send your room dimensions, network details and streaming platform, and request a quote for the Panasonic AW-UE40 today.

Questions about AW-UE40

What is the Panasonic AW-UE40 used for?
The AW-UE40 is a remote PTZ camera for classrooms, lecture halls, boardrooms and training rooms that run online sessions alongside in-person ones. It can be panned, tilted and zoomed from a controller or software, so one unit covers a room without a camera operator. Its 4K sensor and 24x optical zoom suit larger rooms, and it can stream over IP while outputting through HDMI at the same time.
How does the AW-UE40 differ from the AW-UE30?
The main differences are zoom and streaming. The AW-UE40 has 24x optical zoom with a 3.3 degree telephoto end, while the AW-UE30 has 20x optical zoom with a 4.0 degree telephoto end. The AW-UE40 also lists NDI HX2 as an available upgrade, which the AW-UE30 streaming modes do not include. Choose the AW-UE40 when the camera must reach a presenter at the far end of a large room, and check the room distance before deciding.
Can the AW-UE40 be powered over the network?
Yes. The camera supports PoE+ (IEEE802.3at) with a supply range of DC 42 to 57 V and draws about 0.6 A, so one LAN cable carries power, control and video. Without PoE+, the supplied AC adapter provides 12 V DC and draws 1.8 A. In a ceiling installation in a Lusail office, a PoE+ switch port can avoid a separate power outlet near the camera, once the switch power budget is confirmed.
What zoom and field of view does it offer?
It has a motorised 24x optical zoom at F1.8 to F4.0, covering a focal length of 4.12 mm to 98.9 mm. The horizontal angle of view runs from 74.1 degrees at wide to 3.3 degrees at tele. Intelligent zoom extends this to 28x in UHD and 36x in Full HD, and digital extender zoom of 1.4x and 2x is also listed. In a boardroom, the wide setting frames the whole table, while the tele setting isolates a presenter at the far wall.
How close can the camera sit to the people it films?
The source gives a focus distance of 100 mm at the wide end and 1,200 mm across the entire zoom range. At full zoom, the lens will not focus on a subject that is very close, so keep the camera well back from a lectern when zoomed in. In a meeting room in Msheireb, a typical setup is a camera on the back wall framing a table a few metres away. A site survey confirms these distances before mounting.
Will the camera be audible during a lecture or hearing?
The source rates operating noise at NC25 or less, and the pan and tilt use a direct drive system designed for quiet, smooth movement. Quiet operation matters in a lecture hall or a government hearing room, where motor noise can be picked up by microphones. Movement speed can be set to Normal at 60 degrees per second, Fast1 at 90 or Fast2 at 180, so a slower speed can be used while a session is being recorded.
How do I connect it to video conferencing software on a laptop?
The USB 2.0 device port uses a Type-C connector and is compatible with UVC and UAC, but it does not run on bus power, so the camera needs its own power supply or PoE+. The PTZ Virtual USB driver can deliver video and audio over a LAN connection as if the camera were a USB camera, which helps when the conferencing application runs on a PC in another room. Windows 10 and macOS browsers are listed for the web interface.
Which streaming protocols does it support?
The camera streams JPEG (MJPEG), H.264 and H.265, with resolutions up to 1920x1080 and JPEG frame rates up to 30 fps. SRT is supported out of the box for stable transmission over unstable networks, and RTMP and RTMPS send video directly to YouTube Live and Facebook Live. NDI HX2 at low bitrates is available as a paid upgrade. A seminar room at Education City could stream a public session without a separate encoder, once the network is checked.
Will it cope with Qatar's summer heat?
The ambient operating temperature is 0 to 40 degrees C, with humidity of 20 to 90 percent and no condensation. Summer temperatures outside in Qatar can exceed 45 degrees C, so this camera is not suited to outdoor, unshaded or window-facing positions in summer. Install it in an air-conditioned room and confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before the quotation is accepted. Storage range is -20 to 50 degrees C.
Can it feed an older HDMI display or projector?
The HDMI output is HDMI 1.4 at 4:2:2 10-bit, with 4K output at 25p, 29.97p, 24p and 23.98p, and HD output including 1080p at 50 and 59.94 Hz. HDCP is not supported, which matters if the source content is protected. For a school hall with an existing projector, check the display input resolution and confirm the cable and scaler with SmartRooms Qatar before ordering.
How is it mounted, and what cable length is allowed?
It can stand on a desk or hang from a ceiling, using a ceiling mounting bracket that brings the weight from about 1.8 kg to about 2.05 kg. The body measures 160.0 mm by 192.1 mm by 166.0 mm, excluding protrusions and the bracket. Category 5e or better straight cable can run up to 100 m for IP connections and up to 1000 m for the AW protocol connection. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to check ceiling height and cable routes.
How can a school or ministry order it through an LPO or tender?
SmartRooms Qatar supplies the AW-UE40 by quotation and accepts purchase orders (LPOs), government tenders including Monaqasat, and payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Quotations are usually issued within one working day. Delivery is available to all eight municipalities of Qatar, and lead times are estimates confirmed in the quotation based on stock. The product is covered by the manufacturer's warranty. State whether you need the white or black finish.
