Overview

The Panasonic AW-UE80 is a 4K PTZ conference camera built to cover large rooms with a 74.1° wide angle and 24x optical zoom. It outputs 4K over HDMI and 3G-SDI and streams over NDI, NDI|HX, SRT and RTMP. A single PoE++ network cable can carry power, video and control. It suits lecture halls, boardrooms and event spaces in Qatar that need a quiet, low-profile camera for hybrid meetings and recording.

A quiet 4K camera for rooms that cannot afford distraction

The AW-UE80 is a remote pan-tilt-zoom camera built to record and stream people inside a room without drawing attention to itself. Its compact dome body and smooth, quiet head movement help speakers and performers forget the lens is there. The direct-drive pan-tilt mechanism is rated at NC25 or less, so it will not compete with the sound in a lecture, concert or ceremony.

Image quality and zoom for large spaces

The camera uses a 1/2.5-type 4K MOS sensor with approximately 8,490,000 effective pixels and outputs 4K at 50p or 60p, with a horizontal resolution rated at 1,500 TV lines in UHD mode. The 24x optical zoom runs from a 74.1° wide horizontal view to 3.3° at full telephoto, so one unit can frame an entire hall and still isolate a presenter at the far end. Digital extender zoom of 1.4x and 2x is also available, and the lens is rated F1.8 to F4.0.

Outputs and streaming for hybrid meetings

Video leaves the camera through HDMI 2.0 with 4:2:2 10-bit output and through 3G-SDI, and both can run at the same time for HD and 4K workflows. The HDMI port does not support HDCP, so keep protected content sources on a separate path. Over IP, the camera includes High Bandwidth NDI and NDI|HX version 2, plus SRT, RTMP and RTMPS for live streams to platforms such as YouTube Live and Facebook Live. NDI|HX mode outputs Full HD only, so choose the mode according to the resolution your production needs.

  • Power over Ethernet++ (IEEE 802.3bt) from 42 to 57 V DC, or the supplied 12 V DC adapter
  • FreeD support for sending camera tracking data to AR and VR systems
  • Controlled from AW-RP150GJ or AW-RP60GJ, with up to 200 cameras per controller
  • Pan range of ±175° and tilt from -30° to 90°

Where it fits in Qatar

A university in Education City could mount the AW-UE80 at the back of a lecture theatre so that lectures reach students in Doha and abroad over SRT. A hotel ballroom in West Bay or The Pearl could use it to record conferences and evening events with minimal noise. A government authority in Msheireb could set one up in a meeting hall to stream a public session. Because the rated ambient operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C, the camera belongs in an air-conditioned room. Summer temperatures outdoors in Qatar often exceed 45 °C, so do not place it on a terrace, rooftop or sun-exposed window position.

Planning the mounting, power and cabling

The unit weighs about 2.0 kg without its ceiling bracket and about 2.25 kg with it, and measures 170.0 × 211.0 × 171.0 mm excluding protrusions. It can stand on a desk or hang from the ceiling, so decide the position early and check that the ceiling can carry the load. IP control and PoE cable runs are rated up to 100 m, while the AW protocol LAN connection extends to 1,000 m. The camera draws 3.0 A from the supplied adapter and 1.0 A from a PoE++ supply, so confirm your switch budget if several cameras share a cabinet. It is available in white (AW-UE80W) or black (AW-UE80K).

Request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar and we will confirm the controller, cabling and bracket for your room. A free site survey can check sightlines before any bracket is fixed.

Questions about AW-UE80

What is the Panasonic AW-UE80 designed for?
The AW-UE80 is a remote pan-tilt-zoom camera for recording and streaming people in medium and large rooms. It suits lecture theatres, graduation ceremonies, official events and hybrid meetings where speakers must be framed without a camera operator. Its 74.1° wide view and 24x optical zoom let one unit cover a stage or a whole presentation area, while 4K output keeps recordings high resolution.
What resolution and frame rates does the camera output?
The camera outputs 4K at 50p or 60p and HD formats such as 1080/59.94p and 1080/50p over SDI and HDMI. It uses a 1/2.5-type 4K MOS sensor with approximately 8,490,000 effective pixels. NDI outputs are HD formats, and NDI|HX version 2 is limited to Full HD, so use HDMI or SDI when your workflow needs 4K.
How wide is the field of view and how far does the zoom reach?
The horizontal angle of view runs from 74.1° at wide to 3.3° at full tele, and the vertical range is 46.0° to 1.9°. Optical zoom is 24x, and the i.Zoom function extends this to 28x in UHD and 36x in Full HD. Digital extender zoom of 1.4x and 2x is also listed. Focus can be automatic or manual, with a closest focus distance of 100 mm at the wide end.
How noisy is the camera when it moves during a live event?
The pan-tilt head uses a direct-drive motor, and the manufacturer rates its operating noise at NC25 or less. Panning covers ±175° and tilting runs from -30° to 90°. In normal mode, speed is adjustable from 0.08° to 60° per second, with faster modes at 90° and 180° per second. Presets return precisely to saved positions, which helps a university lecturer return to the same framing during a session.
Can the AW-UE80 be powered and controlled through one network cable?
Yes, when your switch or hub supports PoE++. The camera is rated for IEEE 802.3bt power from 42 to 57 V DC, and one LAN cable can carry video, audio, control and power. Without PoE++, the supplied 12 V DC adapter is used, drawing 3.0 A, while a PoE++ supply draws 1.0 A. Check your switch power budget before ordering, especially where several cameras share a school equipment cabinet.
Which streaming platforms and protocols does it support for live broadcasts?
The camera supports RTMP and RTMPS for direct streaming to services such as YouTube Live and Facebook Live without a separate encoder. For less predictable networks, it supports SRT, which encrypts video and resends lost packets, making it suitable for distribution over the public internet. RTSP, MPEG2-TS over UDP, H.264, H.265 and MJPEG are also supported for network viewing.
Can I connect it to our existing video switcher or recorder?
Yes, if your equipment accepts 3G-SDI over BNC, which the camera supports at Level-A and Level-B, or HDMI 2.0 with 4:2:2 10-bit output. The HDMI port does not support HDCP or Viera Link, so keep protected content sources on a separate path. SDI and HDMI can run together for HD and 4K workflows. Confirm that 50 Hz or 60 Hz frame rates match the rest of your signal chain.
Will it work with NDI-based production software on our IP network?
The camera includes High Bandwidth NDI and NDI|HX version 2 as standard, so NDI-compatible software on the same network can detect it without manual IP address entry. High Bandwidth NDI is listed at a maximum of 250 Mbps in HD formats. NDI|HX version 2 is designed for lower bitrates and is limited to Full HD. Plan network bandwidth around the mode you choose, and ask the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.
How should we plan mounting for a lecture hall or boardroom?
Decide first whether the camera will sit on a desk or hang from the ceiling. The body weighs about 2.0 kg, rising to about 2.25 kg with the ceiling bracket, and measures 170.0 × 211.0 × 171.0 mm excluding protrusions. Confirm the ceiling can take the load and that the lens has a clear view of the speaker area. Keep the cable route to the switch within 100 m. A free SmartRooms Qatar site survey can confirm sightlines before the bracket is fixed.
Can the camera be used outdoors or in a sun-exposed space in Qatar?
The manufacturer rates the ambient operating temperature from 0 °C to 40 °C, humidity from 20% to 90% with no condensation, and storage from -20 °C to 50 °C. Summer temperatures in Qatar often exceed 45 °C outdoors, so the AW-UE80 should be installed in an air-conditioned room, not on a rooftop, terrace or sun-exposed window. For any semi-exposed location, ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to confirm a suitable enclosure before you request a quote.
How many cameras can one controller manage?
The manufacturer states that a single controller can control up to 200 camera units when used with the Remote Camera Controller AW-RP150GJ or AW-RP60GJ. Other compatible controllers include AW-RM50AG and several AK-HRP models. In a multi-camera hall, such as a university auditorium with a main camera and two side views, your controller choice affects control options and the number of PoE++ ports you need.
How do we order it through a purchase order or a government tender?
Send SmartRooms Qatar the quantity, the room type and the delivery location, and we will issue a quotation, usually within one working day. Purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, are accepted, and payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Delivery covers all 8 municipalities of Qatar, which suits a school in Al Wakrah ordering several units for multiple halls.
