Overview

The Snom C620 is a cordless DECT conference phone system for meeting rooms where cables are a problem. It includes a desktop conference phone, a charging dock, a DECT base station and two detachable wireless microphones. Rated up to 50 m indoors and up to 24 hours of talk time, it suits boardrooms and training rooms across Doha, West Bay and Lusail.

What the Snom C620 is and how it works

The Snom C620 is a cordless conference system built on DECT radio, the telecommunications standard used for cordless links. The kit centres on a desktop conference phone with a backlit monochrome display, a SIP DECT base station, a charging dock and two detachable wireless microphones. Because the microphones are not tethered, they can be spread across a table or placed on several desks, so people at the far end of a long meeting table do not have to lean toward one central unit.

The conference phone has a 4-line graphical LCD, three context-sensitive function keys and dedicated keys for volume, hold, cancel, menu and MUTE ALL. Each wireless microphone has its own mute key with a green LED, and either microphone can be used as a handheld. The base station connects to the network through a 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet port.

Range, battery life and charging

Coverage is rated up to 50 m indoors, which suits a large meeting room. Walls and furniture reduce real coverage, so check the room during a site survey. The phone uses a Ni-MH battery rated for up to 24 hours of narrowband talk time, or 12 hours of wideband talk time, with up to 28 days of standby. The microphones charge in integrated slots, and the package includes three batteries.

Where it fits in Qatar

  • Ministry or authority boardroom in West Bay: a clean table with no cable runs, and microphones that can be moved between agenda items without interrupting the meeting.
  • Training centre in Education City or Lusail: a wide room where up to two C52-SP wireless speakerphones can extend coverage to seats away from the table.
  • Hotel meeting room in The Pearl: a room that is reconfigured between events, with cordless units that are simple to store and recharge.

Planning the room and the installation

Air conditioning matters here. The C620 is rated for an operating ambient temperature of 0 °C to +35 °C and 5 % to 85 % humidity, non-condensing. Qatar summers often exceed 45 °C, so keep the system in air-conditioned meeting rooms, away from windows, lobbies and unconditioned spaces. The base station can be powered over PoE (IEEE 802.3af, class 3) if the switch has enough power for every connected device, or from its 100–240 V AC adapter.

Check the variant before ordering. The EU and UK part number is 00004617 and the Americas part number is 00004407, and the DECT band differs between them: 1,881–1,897 MHz for EMEA and 1,920–1,930 MHz for the US. Ask SmartRooms Qatar to confirm the right variant in your quotation. The base station is a single-cell system and cannot be linked to a multi-cell DECT base, so plan coverage around one base. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys, which help before fixing the position of a large table.

The phone supports up to three SIP identities, stores up to 200 local directory entries and can use a shared central directory of up to 1,000 entries on the base station. It is interoperable with major IP-PBX platforms and is covered by the manufacturer's 3-year warranty. Send us your room dimensions, seat count and PBX platform, and request a quote. Quotations usually arrive within one working day.

Questions about C620

Is the Snom C620 suited to a ministry boardroom in West Bay?
Yes, for a boardroom where a clear table matters. The C620 places a desktop conference phone at the centre, with two detachable DECT microphones that can be set around the table or on separate desks, so no cables run across the table. The room should be air-conditioned. A SmartRooms Qatar site survey can confirm microphone positions before you request a quote.
How far can the wireless microphones be from the base station?
The system is rated for a range of up to 50 metres indoors. In a hotel meeting room at The Pearl with a long table, real coverage depends on walls, furniture and where the base sits. Test the base position first, then place the microphones. SmartRooms Qatar can check the layout during a free site survey.
Will the batteries last through a full-day workshop?
Usually, if the phone starts fully charged. The conference phone is rated for up to 24 hours of narrowband talk time, or 12 hours of wideband talk time, and up to 28 days of standby. Wideband audio, which gives the higher audio quality, halves the runtime. Charging takes up to 6 hours for the phone and up to 8 hours for the microphones, so charge overnight after a long session.
Can the C620 cover a large training room at Education City?
It can be extended. The system supports up to two C52-SP wireless speakerphones, which the manufacturer positions for larger rooms and halls. They help when a training room is wide or has seating well away from the main unit. Plan the seating first, then confirm the number of C52-SP units, part number 00004357, with SmartRooms Qatar before ordering.
How far does the built-in conference phone microphone pick up?
The microphone in the conference phone has a pickup range of 2.4 metres and is omnidirectional. That suits a small office in Lusail with the phone at the centre of a compact table. In a larger room, the detachable microphones are the better choice, because each can be placed closer to whoever is speaking. Both wireless microphones have a mute key with a green LED.
Can it run in a meeting room that gets hot during Qatar summers?
Only in air-conditioned rooms. The C620 has an operating ambient temperature of 0 °C to +35 °C and a humidity range of 5 % to 85 %, non-condensing. Qatar summers can exceed 45 °C, so do not place the base station or phone near a window, a lobby or any space that is not climate-controlled. Confirm the room conditions when you request a quote.
Does it need a separate power socket, or can the base run on PoE?
Both options exist. The base station can be powered over Ethernet using IEEE 802.3af, class 3, provided the network switch supports it and has enough power for every connected device. Otherwise use its power adapter, rated 100–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz. The charging dock has a separate adapter, 12 V DC, 3 A, 36 W, so it needs its own mains outlet.
Which variant should a buyer in Qatar order?
Confirm this with SmartRooms Qatar before ordering. The manufacturer lists an EU and UK part number, 00004617, and an Americas part number, 00004407. The DECT band also differs: 1,881–1,897 MHz for EMEA and 1,920–1,930 MHz for the US. Tell us which regional variant your project requires, and the quotation will name the exact part number.
Does it work with our IP-PBX or SIP telephony platform?
The manufacturer states that the C620 is interoperable with all major IP-PBX platforms, and it supports 3 SIP identities or accounts. The base station handles SIP, SDP, RTP, STUN and NAT-T, with G.711, G.722, G.726 and G.729ab codecs. Configuration and firmware can be loaded over HTTP, HTTPS, FTP or TFTP. Send your PBX make and version when you request a quote.
What security features does the C620 support?
The C620 supports TLS, SIPS (SIP over TLS) and SRTP for encrypted signalling and media, along with HTTPS, IEEE 802.1X and mutual TLS authentication. Configuration files can be password protected, and provisioning files use AES encryption. Your IT team should agree the security settings with SmartRooms Qatar before the system goes live on a ministry, school or corporate network.
Can several C620 base stations be linked to cover a whole floor?
No. The DECT base station is a single-cell system and cannot be connected to a multi-cell arrangement. For more coverage in one room, add up to two C52-SP speakerphones to the same base. If a floor has several separate meeting rooms, each room needs its own system, so plan the count in your quotation request.
What comes in the box, and what warranty applies?
The box includes the DECT base station, an Ethernet cable, the conference phone, a charging dock, a power adapter, two wireless microphones, three batteries and a quick installation guide. Snom gives the C620 a 3-year warranty, and SmartRooms Qatar supplies it under that manufacturer warranty. Send your room sizes and seat count with your request so the right setup is quoted.
