Overview

The Sony BRC-H800 is a Full HD pan-tilt-zoom camera built for unattended broadcast and AV work. Its 1.0-type sensor and 12x optical zoom capture 1080p at 60 frames per second, with low-light capability down to 1.7 lux. It offers two 3G-SDI outputs, HDMI, PoE+ and VISCA over IP control, making it suited to lecture theatres, auditoriums and multi-camera production rooms across Qatar where one operator runs the shots.

Broadcast-grade Full HD for a camera one person can run

The Sony BRC-H800 is a robotic pan-tilt-zoom camera. An operator frames shots from a control room or desk, so the camera can sit in a ceiling corner or other discreet position where a conventional camera operator cannot. Its 1.0-type back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, with approximately 14.2 megapixels of effective pixels, outputs Full HD 1080 at 60p for fast-moving action, and it can switch to 24p for a film-like look.

Zoom, lens and low-light performance

The Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens covers a focal length from 9.3 mm to 111.6 mm, which is 12x optical zoom. The aperture runs from F2.8 at wide to F4.5 at tele. Clear Image Zoom extends reach to 24x in HD, and Tele Convert Mode doubles it again to 48x while keeping 1920x1080 resolution. The camera captures colour video at light levels as low as 1.7 lux, which suits lecture theatres and halls where lights are dimmed during presentations.

Control, movement and connectivity

Pan runs ±170° and tilt covers +90° to -30°, with pan and tilt speeds from 0.3° to 60° per second in normal mode. The camera stores 100 preset positions, and PTZ Trace Memory records movement sequences. Operating noise is rated at NC30 or less under Sony's measurement conditions. Control is available through the supplied IR remote commander, VISCA RS-422, or VISCA over IP. The optional RM-IP500 Remote Control Unit can manage several cameras from one point.

  • Two 3G-SDI outputs and one HDMI output, with genlock input on BNC
  • PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) with DC 10.8 V to 13.2 V alternative
  • Dual tally lamps on the front and rear of the body
  • Free-d tracking data output for VR and AR setups, with firmware V2.10

Where it fits in Qatar

A university lecture theatre in Education City can record and stream lectures with one operator and a fixed ceiling camera, so the instructor stays in frame without a second camera crew. A government conference hall or corporate auditorium in Lusail or Msheireb can use the camera for hybrid meetings that connect Doha with teams abroad, with the operator framing speakers from the control room. A private school hall in Al Rayyan can capture assemblies and performances on a ceiling bracket, keeping floor space clear.

The operating range tops out at 40 °C, while Qatar summer temperatures often exceed 45 °C. Keep the camera in air-conditioned rooms and avoid exposed or unshaded positions. Confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before mounting.

What to plan before ordering

  • Ceiling or wall structure and load, given the body weighs approximately 4.3 kg
  • Mounting angle limited to less than ±15 degrees

  • AC power supply and cord sold separately in regions outside US and Canada
  • Cable routing for 3G-SDI, HDMI and the VISCA over IP control network

Our team offers a free site survey before the camera is fixed, and quotations are usually provided within one working day. Orders can be placed by purchase order or through a government tender, and payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Request a quote for the BRC-H800 and we will confirm the power option, bracket and cabling for your room.

Questions about BRC-H800

Who is the BRC-H800 designed for?
The BRC-H800 suits organisations that need broadcast-quality Full HD video from a camera one person can run remotely. In Qatar that means university lecture theatres in Education City, government conference halls, and school auditoriums where a single operator frames several shots from a control desk. It also suits remote studios and production rooms linked to teams abroad.
How much zoom does it offer, and does the picture stay sharp?
The camera has 12x optical zoom, with a 9.3 mm wide end and a 111.6 mm telephoto end. Clear Image Zoom extends this to 24x in HD, and Tele Convert Mode doubles it to 48x while keeping 1920x1080 resolution. Clear Image Zoom is Sony's intelligent interpolation, which analyses the image to increase its resolution, so treat it as extra reach rather than a replacement for optical zoom.
Will it work in a dimly lit lecture theatre or hall?
Yes. The camera is rated to capture colour video at light levels as low as 1.7 lux, measured at 50 IRE, F2.8, 1/30 second and maximum gain. Lecture theatres and halls where the lights are dimmed for projection fit that profile. Test the room lighting during the site survey, because a bright projection screen can still affect exposure.
What video outputs does it have?
It has two 3G-SDI outputs and one HDMI output. HDMI supports YCbCr 4:2:2 and RGB 4:4:4 colour spaces. This model has no 4K output, and its HD signal options run up to 1080p. The SDI outputs suit a production switcher or recorder, while HDMI can feed a display or a simpler recording device in smaller rooms.
How is it controlled, and does it work with studio controllers?
It can be controlled with the supplied IR remote commander, VISCA RS-422, or VISCA over IP. The manufacturer data lists compatibility with Sony RCP-1500, RCP-1501, RCP-1530, MSU-1000 and MSU-1500 controllers in studio environments over IP networks, and the optional RM-IP500 Remote Control Unit can control multiple cameras. Confirm compatibility with your exact controller using the Remote Camera System Guide before ordering.
Can it be powered over Ethernet?
Yes. It supports PoE+ under IEEE 802.3at, drawing 23.0 W maximum. It can also run on DC 10.8 V to 13.2 V, drawing 19.0 W maximum at 12 V. PoE+ reduces the cabling needed at ceiling positions. The AC power supply and cord are sold separately outside the US and Canada, so specify the power route when requesting a quote.
Can it be installed in an outdoor or unshaded position in Qatar?
No, not in exposed positions. The operating temperature range is 0 °C to 40 °C, and Qatar summer temperatures often exceed 45 °C. Install it in an air-conditioned room such as an auditorium, boardroom or lecture theatre. The storage range is -20 °C to +60 °C, but storage is not operation. Confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before mounting.
How is it mounted to a ceiling?
The camera supports ceiling, table top and tripod mounting. The package includes two ceiling brackets, a wire rope, M3 and M4 screws and an HDMI cable fixing plate. The mounting angle must be less than ±15 degrees, and the body has 1/4-20UNC tripod screw holes. A free site survey lets our team check the ceiling structure and sightlines before the bracket is fitted.
How big is the camera and how much does it weigh?
The body measures approximately 198 x 260 x 238 mm without projecting parts and weighs approximately 4.3 kg. That is compact for a broadcast PTZ camera but heavier than a typical conference camera. Check the ceiling or wall load, including the bracket, during planning before the camera is fixed in an auditorium or lecture hall.
Does it suit multi-camera productions run by one operator?
Yes. The camera is designed for efficient multi-camera set-ups under the control of a single operator. Its external sync input is a BNC connector accepting HD 3-level sync or SD black burst at 75 ohms, which supports genlock integration with other equipment. Dual tally lamps on the front and rear show on-air status to the subject and the crew.
What does camera tracking output need for VR and AR systems?
Real-time pan, tilt, zoom, focus and iris data can be output over IP in the free-d protocol, which is used for virtual and augmented reality systems. This function requires firmware V2.10. Firmware updates are delivered over IP, so new functions can be added without replacing the hardware. Ask our team which firmware version is installed before ordering a tracking setup.
