Overview

The Sony SRG-A40 is a PTZ camera with built-in AI analytics that follows one presenter, or up to eight people, without an operator. It offers 20x optical zoom, 4K HDMI and IP streaming, and runs from a single PoE++ network cable. It suits boardrooms, lecture theatres and indoor sports halls in Qatar that need hands-free capture. Request a quote for supply and installation.

How the SRG-A40 keeps a speaker in frame

The Sony SRG-A40 is a pan, tilt and zoom camera that uses built-in AI video analytics to locate a person in its field of view and keep them framed as they move. Operators do not need to steer it by hand during a meeting, lecture or event. The camera detects skeleton and head position, so it can hold a presenter in shot even when several people are in the room.

Specifications that shape your design

  • Sensor and zoom: 1/2.5-inch Exmor R CMOS sensor with approx. 8.5 megapixels, 20x optical zoom, and digital zoom up to 12x.
  • Field of view: approx. 70 degrees horizontal at the widest setting, with a focal length of 4.4 to 88.0 mm.
  • Movement: pan from -170 to 170 degrees, tilt from -20 to 90 degrees, and up to 256 presets through CGI control.
  • Video outputs: HDMI up to 3840 x 2160 at 25p or 29.97p, and SDI at 1920 x 1080. Both can run alongside IP streaming.
  • IP streaming: up to 3840 x 2160 using H.264 or H.265, with RTSP, SRT and NDI|HX support.
  • Power and control: PoE++ over one network cable, or DC 19.5 V from the supplied AC adaptor.

Where it fits in Qatar

In a boardroom in West Bay or Lusail, the camera can frame a presenter at the front of the room while the tracking range is set to the speaking area, so the shot does not drift toward people walking past the screen. In a university lecture theatre in Education City, lecturers can stream sessions over IP to students on other campuses. In a school sports hall in Al Rayyan, basketball framing follows the ball and players during indoor 5v5 games, and it requires firmware version 4.0 or later.

What to plan before ordering

  • Mount it on the ceiling with the supplied bracket. The mountable angle is limited to ±15 degrees, so bracket position matters.
  • Run one network cable to a PoE++ switch or injector that supports IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 Class 8.
  • Keep it in an air-conditioned room. The operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, so it is not suited to outdoor or unventilated spaces during Qatar's summer heat.
  • The camera does not record internally, so plan a separate recorder, capture device or streaming platform.
  • Confirm the power cord type for Qatar with the SmartRooms Qatar team, because the supplied AC power code varies by country of sale.
  • For basketball framing, place the unit at centre court along the sideline and use an official ball.

SmartRooms Qatar carries out a free site survey before installation, which is worth doing to confirm ceiling positions and cable routes. Professional installation is available, and quotations usually arrive within one working day.

Questions about SRG-A40

What is the Sony SRG-A40 used for?
The SRG-A40 is a PTZ camera for rooms where one or more people need to be filmed without a dedicated operator. Its AI analytics detect a presenter and keep them framed as they move, which suits boardrooms, classrooms, lecture theatres and event halls. In Doha, it is a practical choice for ministries and companies holding hybrid meetings with teams abroad, because one camera covers the speaker without anyone steering it in the room.
How many people can it track at once?
It can track a group of up to eight people, with one primary subject and secondary subjects selected by their proximity to the primary. You can set the primary subject through face registration or from the web app. For a panel discussion in a Doha hotel conference room or a corporate conference in Msheireb, the camera keeps the chosen speaker as the primary subject and includes nearby panellists in the same shot.
What zoom and field of view does it offer?
The SRG-A40 has 20x optical zoom, with a focal length of 4.4 to 88.0 mm (26.8 to 536.0 mm in 35mm equivalent). Clear Image Zoom reaches approx. 2x at 1080p, and digital zoom goes to 12x. The horizontal viewing angle is approx. 70 degrees at its widest setting. Tele Convert mode doubles reach to 2.0x, but only at 1920 x 1080. Check the distance from the camera to the speaker during your site survey before choosing a mounting position.
Can it stream live to remote teams?
Yes. The camera streams over IP at up to 3840 x 2160 with a maximum frame rate of 60 fps, using H.264 or H.265, and supports RTP/RTCP, RTSP, SRT and NDI|HX. NDI|HX needs firmware version 3.0 or later. A head office in Doha can send a live feed to colleagues in Europe or Asia, while a separate HDMI feed goes to a local recorder. Confirm that your streaming platform accepts the protocol you choose.
Can HDMI and SDI outputs run at the same time as streaming?
Yes. The source data states that the camera can output video via HDMI and SDI simultaneously with live IP streaming. HDMI supports up to 3840 x 2160 at 25p, 29.97p and 23.98p, plus 1920 x 1080 up to 59.94p and 50p. SDI supports 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720, including 3G-SDI Level A and B. Confirm that your switcher or capture card accepts the format you select before ordering.
Can it be installed near a window or outdoors in Qatar's heat?
No. The operating temperature range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, and storage range is -20 to +60 degrees Celsius. Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45 degrees Celsius, so install the camera in an air-conditioned room. Avoid positions where direct sunlight through a window reaches the lens, or where the unit would sit in an unventilated ceiling void. Confirm the location during the free site survey.
How is it powered and cabled?
The camera draws power from one network cable using PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 Class 8), consuming up to 71.3 W, and the same cable carries video and control. Alternatively, a DC 19.5 V input takes the supplied AC adaptor, rated up to 80 W. Choose a network switch that supports PoE++ before planning cabling. The network port is an RJ-45 connector running 1000BASE-T.
Does it come with a ceiling mount?
Yes. The camera includes ceiling bracket A and ceiling bracket B, a wire rope, and a set of M3 and M2.6 screws. The mountable angle is limited to ±15 degrees, so bracket position affects the final shot. It also has a 1/4-20 UNC tripod screw hole. The camera weighs approx. 2.0 kg and measures 156.7 x 184.0 x 200.0 mm. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to check the mounting point before you commit.
Can it follow basketball games in a school sports hall?
Yes, with firmware version 4.0 or later. Ball Sports (Basketball) framing is designed for indoor 5v5 basketball. It tracks the ball and players from an overview angle, but it does not follow a specific player holding the ball. The unit must be installed at the centre of the court along the sideline, and an official ball is required. Person framing and ball sports framing cannot run at the same time. Plan this setup during a site survey in an Al Rayyan school hall.
Does it record footage?
No. The SRG-A40 has no internal recording function, so it only outputs live video over HDMI, SDI and IP. To keep footage of a school assembly, a training session or a government briefing, pair it with a separate recorder, a capture device or a streaming platform that can receive an RTSP, SRT or NDI|HX feed. Camera tracking data is also not provided as a separate output.
Can a school or ministry order several units under an LPO?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and supports government tenders, including Monaqasat. Quotations usually arrive within one working day, and products are delivered to all eight municipalities of Qatar. Payment is by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order, and the products are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Send room sizes and mounting positions so that the quotation lists the correct number of cameras and accessories.
How is it controlled day to day?
The supplied RMT-RC2 IR remote commander handles pan, tilt, zoom and PTZ Auto Framing on or off, and switches between single-person and multi-person framing. The optional RM-IP500 remote controller adds broadcast-style control. The web app runs on Windows 11, macOS 14, iPadOS 17 or Android 14, with Chrome, Edge or Safari depending on the device, and the camera supports VISCA over IP and HTTP/HTTPS control.
