Overview

The Sony SRG-AS10 is a PTZ camera that tracks presenters and frames them automatically, so a lecture or meeting can be recorded without a camera operator. It captures 4K 60p video with 10x optical zoom, uses a 4K STARVIS sensor for low-light scenes, and offers SDI and HDMI outputs plus NDI HX2 over IP. Suited to lecture theatres, boardrooms and studios in Qatar. Request a quote.

A camera that frames the speaker without an operator

The Sony SRG-AS10 is a pan-tilt-zoom camera built around automatic framing. Its AI analytics follow the primary subject, recognise head and body position, and adjust the shot as that person walks, gestures or turns. A lecture or meeting can therefore be recorded or streamed without a technician at the controls. Multi-person Framing extends this to a group of up to eight people, with one primary subject and secondary subjects chosen by their proximity to it.

Control over who the camera follows is practical. Face Registration lets the team register the presenter in advance, and face data can be imported as JPEG files prepared off site, which speeds up on-site setup. A tracking range can confine the camera to a defined zone, while Fixed Angle Position holds the view when a speaker stands at a lectern and the camera should not react to every small movement. The Lead Room Effect leaves space in the direction the subject is facing, with three adjustment levels.

4K 60p picture quality and zoom that reaches the back row

The camera uses a 4K STARVIS image sensor and records 4K at 60 frames per second, which keeps fast movement and small details such as slide text sharp. Optical zoom reaches 10x in 4K, and Tele Convert Mode extends the reach to 20x in Full HD. Because 4K is oversampled to produce Full HD, the same feed serves live streaming and archiving without a separate capture setup.

Outputs and network integration

SDI and HDMI outputs connect the camera to conventional AV racks and displays. NDI HX2 comes pre-installed, so video can move across an IP network without extra software or licence configuration. RTSP, RTMP and SRT support covers common streaming destinations. PoE++ carries power, video and control over one LAN cable. For control, VISCA over IP allows integration with external systems, the web app runs in a browser on a PC or tablet, the optional RM-IP500 remote controller is compatible, and a supplied IR remote commander handles simple local operation.

Where it fits in Qatar

In a university lecture theatre in Education City, the camera can follow a lecturer across the front of the room while remote students join the session over the network. A government body in West Bay recording panel sessions or internal briefings can register the chair in advance so the camera locks onto that person first. A private school in Al Wakrah broadcasting events from its indoor sports hall can use Ball Sports (Basketball) Mode, provided the court meets the conditions below.

Planning the installation

  • Ball Sports (Basketball) Mode is limited to indoor five-on-five basketball, must be installed at the centre of the court along the sideline, needs an official ball, and cannot run alongside Person Framing Mode.
  • Choose tripod or ceiling mounting and check the sightline to the presenter area before fixing the unit.
  • Select white or black to suit the finish of the room.
  • Confirm the PoE++ port and cable route with the network switch and installer.
  • Share the room conditions, including heat near windows, with the SmartRooms Qatar team, as this page does not list an operating temperature range.

Questions about SRG-AS10

What is the Sony SRG-AS10 used for?
It is a PTZ camera for recording or streaming lectures, meetings and events where no camera operator is available. It follows the main subject automatically, adjusting pan, tilt and zoom, and outputs 4K 60p video. Typical buyers in Qatar include universities, schools and corporate teams running hybrid meetings that need one fixed camera to cover a room.
How many people can the camera track at once?
Multi-person Framing tracks a group of up to eight people, with one primary subject and secondary subjects selected by their proximity to that primary subject. The primary subject can be set through Face Registration or from the web app. This suits a panel discussion in a Doha conference room where several speakers sit close together at one table.
Can the camera be controlled over a network from a control room?
Yes. The camera supports VISCA over IP for integration with external control systems, and its functions can be operated through the web app in a browser on a PC or tablet. The optional RM-IP500 remote controller is also compatible. A supplied IR remote commander covers simple wireless operation in the room itself.
Does the SRG-AS10 support NDI and live streaming platforms?
NDI HX2 is pre-installed, so video can move over an IP network without additional software or licence configuration. The camera also supports RTSP, RTMP and SRT streaming, along with SDI and HDMI outputs. A school or government office in Qatar that already runs an IP network can add it without rebuilding its existing AV system.
What does PoE++ support mean for cabling?
PoE++ carries power, video and control over a single LAN cable, which reduces the number of cables run to the camera position. Confirm that the network switch port you plan to use supports PoE++ before ordering. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to check the cable route from the mounting point to the switch cabinet before installation.
Is the camera suitable for a lecture theatre in Education City?
Yes, for a lecture theatre where the lecturer moves across a front stage area. Automatic framing follows the lecturer, Tracking Range keeps the camera inside a defined zone, and Fixed Angle Position holds the shot when the lecturer stands at the lectern. Remote students can join the same camera feed over the network for hybrid teaching.
How does Ball Sports (Basketball) Mode work, and what are its limits?
It is designed for indoor five-on-five basketball. It gives an overview of players and the ball, but does not track an individual player holding the ball, and ball tracking is not supported in this mode. The unit must be installed at the centre of the court along the sideline, an official ball is required, and it cannot run at the same time as Person Framing Mode.
Will the camera perform well in dimly lit halls?
The 4K STARVIS image sensor is designed to deliver clear, low-noise images in low-light conditions. For a dimmed hall or a stage lit by spotlights, test the camera on site at the actual lighting level before final setup. A site survey from SmartRooms Qatar can check lighting alongside mounting position and sightline.
What zoom range can I expect for distant subjects?
Optical zoom reaches 10x in 4K. Tele Convert Mode extends zoom to 20x in Full HD. For a boardroom or classroom, the optical range usually covers the presenter area from a sensible mounting distance. For a sports hall or stage where the subject is farther away, Tele Convert Mode gives the extra reach needed for framing.
Can it be mounted on a ceiling or a tripod?
Yes. The camera supports both tripod and ceiling-mounted installation, and it includes image flip functionality for flexible positioning. It is available in white or black. Ask SmartRooms Qatar to confirm the mounting method and cable route before the ceiling is fixed, and arrange a site survey if the ceiling is high or hard to access.
What is Face Registration for, and how is it set up?
Face Registration lets the camera prioritise a chosen presenter. Face data can be imported as JPEG files prepared off site, which shortens on-site setup. If tracking is lost, the registered face information helps the camera re-acquire the primary subject quickly. A government briefing team in Msheireb could prepare face data for its speakers before the event day.
Can we order several units for a school or government body?
Yes. Schools and government bodies in Qatar can order through a purchase order (LPO) or a government tender, including Monaqasat, and pay by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Send a request listing the number of rooms and the intended mounting positions, so the quotation covers each location. Products are covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
