Overview

The Yealink CM50 is a Dante ceiling microphone that uses beamforming across 127 microphone units to pick up speech within a 5-meter radius. It supports up to eight customizable pickup zones, an acoustic fence, AI noise and echo reduction, and runs on a single PoE+ cable. It suits medium to large meeting rooms, boardrooms and lecture spaces in Doha, Lusail and Education City that need clear audio without desk microphones.

What the CM50 picks up and how its pickup zones work

The Yealink CM50 is a ceiling microphone built around a 127-unit MEMS array with beamforming. It covers a 5-meter radius and supports up to eight customizable pickup zones, so the system can focus on the lectern, the table seats or a presenter's position rather than the whole ceiling. Prioritised pickup and an acoustic fence help exclude sound from outside the chosen areas, such as air conditioning noise or a corridor next door.

Its frequency response runs from 120 Hz to 20 kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 86 dB and a maximum sound pressure level of 122 dB at under 1% THD. In practice, quiet discussion and raised voices are both captured without distortion, which matters when a presenter stands at the front while remote participants speak from the far end of a table.

Audio processing and network features that matter

AI-based sound optimization combines noise reduction with reverberation and echo cancellation, and AI feedback suppression helps prevent howl when the room is amplified. The CM50 supports Dante and AES67, offering 8+2 Dante output channels and 2 Dante input channels at 48 kHz and 24-bit. Two of those inputs carry the echo cancellation (AEC) and feedback control (AFC) references. Dante media encryption and Yealink audio encryption both use AES-256, a point that IT teams in government and banking often raise early.

In Microsoft Teams rooms, the CM50 supports automatic EQ switching and mute synchronization, and its sound source localization can drive camera tracking with compatible Yealink room systems. The datasheet also lists support for Cisco Webex and Zoom systems that connect over Dante, AES67, USB or analog. A 3-pin Phoenix connector provides analog output.

Where the CM50 fits in Qatar

  • Boardroom in West Bay: a ceiling microphone keeps the table clear while remote colleagues in other offices hear every speaker.
  • Lecture hall in Education City: pickup zones aimed at the lectern and front rows reduce amplification of side noise.
  • Hybrid training room in Lusail or the Industrial Area: in-room trainees and participants joining from Microsoft Teams or Zoom share one audio pickup.

These are typical fits, and the right number of units depends on room length and layout.

Planning the installation: ceiling, power and room design

The unit measures 592 × 592 × 56 mm and weighs 5.15 kg without accessories. It is designed to replace a ceiling tile in standard 60 × 60 cm grids, which avoids drilling, and suspension or adhesive mounting accessories are included. It needs a single IEEE PoE+ connection (802.3at class 4), with a rated power of 19.3 W and typical consumption of 17 W. Check the switch port budget before installation. Intelligent Design and Deployment features require the Yealink Audio Processor and Room Designer software to be fully operational.

The CM50 is plenum rated to UL 2043 for air handling spaces. Its operating range is 0 to 40 °C and 0 to 93% RH, and storage is rated from -30 to 70 °C. Qatar summers regularly pass 45 °C, so confirm that the room is air-conditioned and that the ceiling void stays inside the operating range, especially near roof spaces or external walls.

Before ordering, ask SmartRooms Qatar for a free site survey to check the ceiling grid, cable route and room acoustics. Questions about CM50

Who is the Yealink CM50 designed for in Qatar?
The CM50 suits medium to large meeting rooms, boardrooms and lecture spaces where a ceiling-mounted microphone is preferred to table units. In Doha, that means a ministry boardroom in West Bay, a seminar room at a university in Education City, or a hybrid training room in Lusail. Its 5-meter pickup radius and 127 microphone units are sized for those rooms rather than small huddle spaces.
What pickup range does the CM50 cover?
The CM50 has a 5-meter radius pickup range, and the manufacturer quotes a speech transmission index above 0.76 under stated test conditions of 408 ms reverberation and 40 dB(A) noise. Frequency response runs from 120 Hz to 20 kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 86 dB. Actual coverage depends on room acoustics and mounting height, so a SmartRooms Qatar site survey can confirm placement before you order.
How do the pickup zones and acoustic fence work?
The CM50 supports up to eight customizable pickup areas, so you can direct pickup to the lectern or to specific table seats. Prioritised pickup and the acoustic fence work to exclude sound from outside those areas, such as air conditioning noise or movement in an adjacent corridor. Zones are part of the audio design, so agree the layout with the installer before the ceiling unit is fitted.
Which conferencing platforms does the CM50 work with?
The datasheet lists compatibility with systems running Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex and Zoom, provided they connect over Dante, AES67, USB or analog. In Microsoft Teams rooms, the CM50 supports automatic EQ switching and mute synchronization, and its sound source localization can drive camera tracking when paired with compatible Yealink room systems. Confirm your exact conferencing hardware with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.
What power and cabling does the CM50 need?
The CM50 runs on IEEE PoE+ (802.3at class 4) through a single RJ-45 cable that also carries Dante audio and network control. Rated power is 19.3 W and typical consumption is 17 W. Check that your PoE+ switch ports can supply class 4 power, and plan the cable route into the ceiling void before installation. A separate analog output is available on a 3-pin Phoenix connector.
Will the CM50 fit a standard suspended ceiling?
Yes, the CM50 is designed to replace a ceiling tile in mainstream 60 × 60 cm (2 × 2 ft) grids, which avoids drilling. Its dimensions are 592 × 592 × 56 mm and it weighs 5.15 kg without accessories. Suspension or adhesive mounting accessories are included in the package. Check the grid, ceiling void depth and tile support on site, because a survey confirms the fit before the order is placed.
Can the CM50 feed a Q-SYS system or another Dante DSP?
Yes, the CM50 works with standard Dante and AES67 audio processors, and the datasheet names the Q-SYS Core series as an example. It provides 8+2 Dante output channels and 2 Dante input channels at 48 kHz and 24-bit. Two of the Dante inputs are dedicated to the echo cancellation (AEC) and feedback control (AFC) references. Review the channel plan with your integrator before installation.
Can the CM50 be installed where Qatar summer heat is a concern?
Summer temperatures in Qatar regularly exceed 45 °C, and the CM50 is rated for operation from 0 to 40 °C at 0 to 93% RH. Install it only in air-conditioned rooms and confirm that the ceiling void stays within that range. The unit is plenum rated to UL 2043 for air handling spaces, and storage is rated from -30 to 70 °C. If the location is close to a roof or an uncooled space, ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to review it.
Does the CM50 support encrypted audio for sensitive networks?
Yes. The datasheet lists Dante Media Encryption with AES-256, which works with Dante Brooklyn 3, Dante IP Core and Dante Pro S1, and Yealink Audio Encryption with AES-256, which works with Yealink AVBridge. Ministries, banks and energy companies often require controls on conferencing traffic. Your IT team should choose the encryption method that matches its network policy before the system is configured.
How many CM50 units does a large lecture hall need?
There is no fixed count, because the number depends on room length, seating layout and how many pickup zones you need. Each unit covers a 5-meter radius, so a large hall may need more than one unit or a combined design. For a long lecture room at Education City or a training centre, request a site survey so the team can review the layout before a quotation is prepared.
Can a school in Al Wakrah order CM50 units on a purchase order?
Yes, SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including those on Monaqasat, and payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. A school equipping several classrooms or halls can request one quotation covering the number of CM50 units and related items, then issue an LPO against it. Quotations are usually returned within one working day.
What should I plan before ordering a CM50 for a boardroom?
Plan the ceiling grid, the cable route to a PoE+ port and the room's acoustic condition. If you want the Intelligent Design and Deployment features, the datasheet says they need the Yealink Audio Processor and Room Designer software to be fully operational. Ask SmartRooms Qatar for a free site survey, share the room size, ceiling type and conferencing platform, and you will receive a quotation usually within one working day.
