A 55-inch panel designed for tiled video walls

The quality of a video wall depends on the gaps between its screens. The Samsung VH55B-E keeps those gaps narrow: its panel-to-panel bezel measures 1.74 mm, while the active-area-to-active-area gap is 2.49 mm. Each unit measures 1212.2 x 683.0 x 70.4 mm, weighs 19.5 kg and has a 600 x 400 mm VESA mounting pattern. The model ships without a stand, so wall mounting is the intended installation route.

Picture performance: brightness, contrast and viewing angle

The IPS panel is specified at a typical maximum brightness of 700 nit, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and a dynamic contrast ratio of 140,000:1. Viewing angles are rated at 178 degrees horizontally and 178 degrees vertically, so people seated off-centre in a boardroom or passing a lobby entrance can read the same content. The panel has 0.28 % glass haze, 72 % colour gamut and an 8 ms response time.

Inputs and control for a multi-screen layout

Each panel has two HDMI 2 inputs with HDCP 2.2 support, one DisplayPort 1.2 input, one DVI input and one USB port. Control and network connections include RJ45, RS232 in and out, and IR in. Audio input, a stereo mini-jack audio output and video output are also fitted. DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI can be daisy-chained, so one source can drive several panels without extra graphics hardware on each screen.
