Overview

The LG 49UP5Q-EQ is a 49-inch UHD digital signage display, now discontinued by the manufacturer. It offers 3840x2160 resolution, three HDMI inputs, one DisplayPort input, built-in Wi-Fi and webOS 8.0 with local content scheduling. Organisations in Qatar that already run this model, or need a 49-inch display for reception areas, corridors and meeting-room walls, can request a quote for a current equivalent replacement from SmartRooms Qatar.

What the LG 49UP5Q-EQ is built for

The LG 49UP5Q-EQ is a 49-inch UHD signage display from the UP5Q series, made for showing video, schedules and information in places where people stand or walk past, such as reception desks, corridors, lobbies and meeting-room walls. It is not a classroom or boardroom touch screen. The manufacturer has discontinued this model, so this page serves three groups: organisations that already run one, buyers comparing it with newer displays, and anyone needing a like-for-like replacement in Qatar. SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement.

Picture quality and connections

The panel runs at 3840x2160 resolution. Its three HDMI inputs and single DisplayPort input each accept 3840x2160 at 60Hz, with HDCP 2.2 and 1.4 listed on the HDMI side and HDCP 2.2 and 1.3 on the DisplayPort side, so a media player, laptop or presentation PC can drive the screen at full resolution. The rear panel also includes an RJ45 LAN port, RS232C input and output on 4-pin phone jacks, an IR input, a USB 3.0 Type A and a USB 2.0 Type A port, and an audio output. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth add wireless options.

Software and control for multi-site management

The display runs webOS 8.0 and has 32GB of internal eMMC storage. It can schedule local content, play media from a USB drive through plug-and-play, and it includes a fail-over function for switching inputs when a source fails. For networked fleets, group management, SNMP, Wake on LAN, HDMI-CEC and Crestron connectivity are listed, and it is compatible with SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Control+, SuperSign WB, SuperSign Cloud, Mobile CMS and Connected Care. Picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture modes are available, and tile mode can arrange units in a grid of up to 15 by 15 when you build a video wall. On-screen menus include Arabic alongside English.

Dimensions, mounting and what to plan for

The screen measures 1095.6 x 630.8 x 29.7 mm without the IR receiver, with 8.9 mm bezels on the top and sides and 12.9 mm at the bottom. The head weighs 13.6 kg and the packed unit 16.1 kg. It uses a 300 x 300 VESA pattern, and the manufacturer lists the Slim Wall Mount WB21LMA/B and Wall Mount OLW480A/B as optional accessories. The built-in power supply is rated for 100-240V at 50/60Hz, so its stated input range covers Qatar's 240V, 50Hz mains. The power consumption figures on the source sheet are still marked to be confirmed, so the quotation is the place to check them. Operating range is 0°C to 40°C and 10% to 80% humidity, and the IP5X rating covers dust protection only. Keep the display out of direct sunlight and away from unconditioned spaces, and confirm the environment with the team before fitting it.

Where it fits in Qatar

Hospital or clinic reception in Al Sadd or Al Rayyan: wayfinding and queue information on a wall in the waiting area, running on a fixed daily schedule.
Ministry or authority lobby in Msheireb: bilingual announcements and visitor information, with the Arabic on-screen menu available for staff.
Corridor or canteen in a school in Lusail: timed notices and timetables that the display plays from its own schedule during the Sunday to Thursday working week.

Questions about 49UP5Q-EQ

Is the LG 49UP5Q-EQ still available from SmartRooms Qatar?

The manufacturer has discontinued the 49UP5Q-EQ, so it is no longer produced as a new model. If your organisation already runs one, or plans a like-for-like replacement, SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement for your site. Send the quantity, the site location and the mounting type, and the team will confirm the closest option in the quotation, usually within one working day.

Is this display suitable for a ministry reception in Msheireb?

Yes, for information and wayfinding in a reception or lobby. The 49-inch screen suits a wall beside the reception desk, and the HDMI and DisplayPort inputs let you connect a media player or presentation PC. The on-screen menus include Arabic and English, so staff can change settings in either language. A free site survey confirms the wall position and viewing distance before the bracket is fixed.

What resolution and inputs does the 49UP5Q-EQ provide?

It provides 3840x2160 resolution with three HDMI inputs and one DisplayPort input, each rated for 3840x2160 at 60Hz. HDMI lists HDCP 2.2 and 1.4 support, and DisplayPort lists HDCP 2.2 and 1.3. It also has an RJ45 LAN port, RS232C input and output on 4-pin phone jacks, an IR input, USB 3.0 Type A and USB 2.0 Type A ports, and an audio output.

Does the display have built-in speakers?

Yes, it has two built-in 10W speakers. They suit short announcements and small video clips in a lobby or corridor. For a large atrium or a busy canteen, plan an external audio system connected through the audio output, because speakers of this power are designed for close-range announcements rather than large rooms.

Can it run content on a schedule without a PC on site?

The display runs webOS 8.0 and has 32GB of internal eMMC storage. Its local content scheduling feature lets you set playback times for content stored on the unit, and USB plug-and-play is listed for loading content from a USB drive. For central management across several screens, the software list includes SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Cloud and Mobile CMS.

Can I manage several units across Doha and Al Khor from one place?

Yes. The software compatibility list includes SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Control+, SuperSign WB, SuperSign Cloud, Mobile CMS and Connected Care. The display also supports group management, SNMP, Wake on LAN and Crestron connectivity, so IT teams can monitor and control screens over the network. Tell us the number of units and their locations when you request a quote so we can suggest the right package.

How do I build a video wall from this model?

The data lists tile mode with a maximum setting of 15 by 15. Bezels measure 8.9 mm on the top, left and right, and 12.9 mm at the bottom, so the bottom gap will be visible in a grid. A hotel lobby in the West Bay area would need matching units, a wall structure that carries the combined weight, and a layout agreed before ordering. The team can advise on grid size and mounting during the site survey.

Will it cope with the heat and dust of a Doha lobby near windows?

The stated operating range is 0°C to 40°C with 10% to 80% humidity, and the IP5X rating covers dust protection. Summer temperatures in Doha can exceed 45°C, so keep the screen out of direct sunlight, away from glazed walls and hot vents, and confirm the room's air conditioning before ordering. The data sheet does not list an outdoor rating, so do not plan it for outdoor use.

How heavy is it, and what wall mount do I need?

The head weighs 13.6 kg and the packed unit weighs 16.1 kg, with a 300 x 300 VESA mounting pattern. The manufacturer lists the Slim Wall Mount WB21LMA/B and Wall Mount OLW480A/B as optional accessories. Before anything is fixed to a wall, SmartRooms Qatar carries out a free site survey to check the wall type, fixings and display height.

What power supply does it need in Qatar?

It has a built-in power supply rated AC 100-240V at 50/60Hz, so no external power brick is needed. That input range covers the 240V, 50Hz mains used in Qatar. The basic package includes a power cord. The typical and maximum power consumption figures on the source sheet are marked as to be confirmed, so confirm them in the quotation before planning electrical loads.

Can a school in Lusail use it for corridor notices during the school week?

Yes. Local content scheduling lets you set playback times, so notices, timetables and event information change automatically from Sunday to Thursday without staff touching the screen. The display can also be controlled with the remote controller or through the IR input. A fail-over function is listed for switching to a backup input if a source stops.

Can we order several units on an LPO and have them delivered across Qatar?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts LPOs and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and delivers to all eight municipalities. Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. For a school or office ordering several units, send the quantity, sites and mounting plan in one request, and the quotation usually follows within one working day. The manufacturer's warranty covers the products.
