Overview

The Promethean APLE-86 is an 86-inch 4K UHD interactive display running Android 16, with 8 GB RAM, 64 GB storage and up to 40 touch points. Its anti-glare bonded glass, 400 cd/m² brightness and 1.07 billion colour panel suit a large lecture hall, boardroom or open classroom where the whole room must read the screen. An OPS slot, Wi-Fi 6 and a 65 W USB-C port help it fit into existing AV setups across Qatar.

What the 86-inch APLE-86 is

The Promethean APLE-86 is the largest model in the ActivPanel LE range, with an 86-inch TFT LCD panel at 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz). Its active display area measures 1898 x 1069 mm, giving teachers and presenters a wide writing surface without constant scrolling. The panel uses direct LED backlighting and bonded glass, and it runs Android 16 with 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, so classroom and meeting apps run on the panel itself.

Touch, writing and visibility in a large room

Touch is rated for up to 40 continuous touch points with 1 mm accuracy, a response time of 6 ms or less and a scan rate up to 200 Hz. Two passive pens, which need no batteries, come with the panel and rest in a magnetic holder. Palm rejection and pen-and-touch differentiation help when a presenter rests a hand on the glass while writing. The anti-glare coating, 178° viewing angle and 5000:1 dynamic contrast help students at the back of a large room read the content, and the 3 mm heat-tempered glass carries a 9H pencil hardness rating.

Where the APLE-86 fits in Qatar

University lecture halls and training centres: an 86-inch screen with two 20 W speakers suits a large hall in Education City or a training centre in Al Sadd where many people sit far from the front.
Boardrooms in West Bay or Lusail: the panel can show a video call from a team abroad on the main screen while the room works on shared documents, and the rear USB-C port provides 65 W Power Delivery to a connected laptop.
Large classrooms at a private school in Al Wakrah: teachers can use the built-in classroom tools, including the Timer and Spinner apps, with two pens for group activities.

Because the operating temperature range is 0 °C to 40 °C, the panel should sit in an air-conditioned room. Outdoor summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45 °C, so do not plan for it in an unshaded hall or a room without cooling.

What to plan before installation

The panel weighs 56.8 kg net and 71.7 kg packed, so plan for at least two people and suitable lifting equipment.
The VESA mounting pattern is 800 x 600 mm, and the panel is 88 mm deep.
Power is rated at 100 V to 240 V AC and draws 92 W at 400 cd/m² luminance, with standby at 0.5 W or less.
The panel must be installed by a qualified installer, because components not supplied by Promethean may affect performance, safety and warranty.

A site survey before mounting checks wall structure, viewing distance and cable routes. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys and professional installation across Qatar. Request a quote for the APLE-86 and we will confirm the installation scope and the details of your order with the quotation.

Questions about APLE-86

Is the APLE-86 built for large classrooms and lecture halls?

Yes. The APLE-86 is the 86-inch model in the ActivPanel LE range, with a 1898 x 1069 mm active area and 400 cd/m² brightness, which suits rooms where a large audience must read the screen. It is well matched to a university lecture hall in Education City or a large classroom at an international school in Doha, where teachers need an 86-inch writing surface rather than a smaller panel. Its 2 x 20 W speakers add audio for the back rows.

Can an 86-inch panel fit a boardroom in West Bay or Lusail?

It can, if the room and wall are planned for it. The panel measures 1954 x 1159 x 88 mm and weighs 56.8 kg net, with a VESA pattern of 800 x 600 mm. In a boardroom in West Bay or Lusail, check the viewing distance, the wall structure and the route for carrying the packed box, which weighs 71.7 kg. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys before wall-mounting a panel of this size.

Will it cope with Qatar's summer heat in a room without air conditioning?

The panel is rated for operating temperatures from 0 °C to 40 °C and 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Outdoor summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45 °C, so it should be installed in an air-conditioned room, not in a hall or corridor without cooling. If the space is unusual, such as a covered outdoor area or a room with direct sun through large glazing, confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.

Can a training centre in Al Sadd connect laptops and a video conferencing system?

Yes. The panel has two HDMI inputs at the rear, one HDMI input at the front, a DisplayPort 1.4 input and USB-C ports at the front and rear. The rear USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode and 65 W Power Delivery, so a compatible laptop can charge while it displays. A rear HDMI output, USB-B touch connections and RS-232 also support room control. Confirm the video conferencing system's connection type before ordering.

What is the OPS slot and can a computer module be added?

The APLE-86 has one OPS slot. OPS is an industry standard for a plug-in computing module that sits inside the display, so a managed PC can be added for a room that needs a full desktop environment. The module is not listed in the box contents, so it must be sourced separately. Check its specification and mounting space before ordering, and ask the SmartRooms Qatar team for a quotation covering any module you need.

Is it compatible with Mac, Chromebook and Linux computers?

Yes. The source data lists compatibility with Windows 10 and 11, macOS Ventura 13 and Sonoma 14, Linux Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04 LTS and ChromeOS. Windows gesture and edge swipe support is also listed. Because the panel runs Android 16 natively, a teacher can open its built-in apps and write on the screen without connecting a computer at all.

How many people can write at once and what pens come with it?

The panel supports up to 40 continuous touch points, with 1 mm touch accuracy and a touch response time of 6 ms or less. Two passive battery-less pens are included, each with its own pen ID, and the pen holder is magnetic. The pen tip diameter is 3 mm and the eraser diameter is 8 mm. Palm rejection and pen-and-touch differentiation help when a presenter writes with a hand resting on the glass.

What power does it need and how much does it use?

The power requirement is 100 V to 240 V AC, which covers Qatar's 240 V mains supply, and two regional power cables are supplied. At 400 cd/m² luminance the 86-inch model draws 92 W, and standby draws 0.5 W or less. The design is fanless, so there is no fan noise in a quiet classroom or boardroom. Confirm the socket type at your site before installation, as Qatar uses BS 1363 (Type G) sockets.

Which certifications does the ActivPanel LE carry?

The ActivPanel LE carries CE, FCC, IC, UL, CUL and CB regulatory certifications, along with Energy Star, TUV blue light and EDLA certification. EDLA certification is aimed at education displays, and the TUV blue light certification relates to the blue light reduction feature listed in the specifications. If a tender requires certificate copies, state this in your quotation request so the requirement is clear from the start.

What teaching software comes with the panel?

The panel includes an ActivInspire Personal Single User education licence. Built-in classroom apps include Explain Everything Whiteboard, Annotate, Timer, Spinner, Screen Capture and Screen Share Receiver. With 8 GB RAM, 64 GB storage and local multi-user profiles, each teacher can keep a separate setup on the same panel. A Trusted Platform Module is also included, and over-the-air updates are supported.

Who installs it and what does the warranty cover?

Promethean specifies installation by a qualified installer, and components not supplied by Promethean may affect performance, safety and warranty. SmartRooms Qatar provides professional installation and free site surveys across Qatar. The product is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty term and upgrade options vary by region, so confirm the terms that apply in Qatar within your quotation.

Can we order several APLE-86 panels on an LPO or government tender?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar supplies against purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. A school or ministry fitting out several rooms can send one request listing the quantity, the delivery location and any mounting or accessory needs. Quotations are usually issued within one working day.
