Overview

The Promethean ActivPanel LX APLX-86 is an 86-inch 4K interactive display with no built-in operating system, so you choose Windows, Android or Chrome OS. It offers 20 continuous touch points, 1 mm touch accuracy and 400 cd/m² brightness without cover glass, with a fanless design. It suits large lecture halls and boardrooms in Qatar that need a big, quiet touch screen. Request a quote for supply and installation.

An 86-inch 4K panel with no operating system fitted

The APLX-86 is the 86-inch member of the ActivPanel LX family. It ships without an operating system, so your IT team can attach the platform that suits each room: a Windows PC, an EDLA-certified Android module or a Chrome OS device. That choice matters in Qatar, where ministries, schools and companies often standardise on one ecosystem and need classroom and meeting room screens to match it. The 3840 x 2160 resolution spans a display area of 1897 x 1068 mm.

Display and touch specifications that shape daily use

The panel is a TFT LCD with direct LED backlight and an anti-glare, bonded front glass of 3.2 mm thickness, rated 8H pencil hardness. Specified brightness is 350 cd/m², and 400 cd/m² without cover glass. Contrast is listed at 5000:1 dynamic and 1200:1 static, with a 178° viewing angle. Touch offers 20 continuous touch points, 1 mm accuracy and a 10 ms response time. Palm rejection and palm erase are included, so a teacher can rest a hand on the glass while writing without stray marks. An ambient light sensor is also fitted.

Connectivity for laptops, PCs and classroom sources

The front panel carries one HDMI 2.0 input, one USB-A 2.0 port, one USB-B touch port and one USB-C 2.0 port rated for 15 W Power Delivery. The rear adds two HDMI 2.0 inputs, two USB-A 2.0 ports, one USB-B touch port, LAN in and out, VGA, 3.5 mm audio in and out, and an RS232 port. One OPS slot accepts an optional computing module, and Wake-on-LAN is supported. Touch compatibility is listed for Windows 7 to 11, Mac OS 10.8 to 10.11, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Chrome OS.

Where the APLX-86 fits across Qatar

A lecture hall at a university in Education City or a training centre in Doha needs a screen that can be read from the back row. The 86-inch diagonal and 178° viewing angle suit tiered seating. In a West Bay boardroom where teams work in Arabic and English and join calls with colleagues abroad, the same panel can take a laptop over HDMI or USB-C while the team annotates slides with the pens. For a school in Al Rayyan fitting out a hall for assemblies and collaborative lessons, the dual front speakers (2 x 15 W peak) cover basic presentation audio, and the ActivSoundBar is available as an optional add-on.

Planning the installation, power and room conditions

Panel weight: 63.4 kg, or 76.6 kg packed, so the wall or stand must carry that load.
Mounting: VESA pattern of 800 x 600 mm; the box includes four M6 VESA screws and a mini PC bracket.
Power: 100 V to 240 V AC input, 175 W typical consumption, 0.5 W or less on standby.
Environment: operating range 0 °C to 40 °C at 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity.

Installation should be carried out by a qualified installer. Qatar summer temperatures can exceed 45 °C, so the screen belongs in an air-conditioned room. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys and professional installation, and quotations are usually issued within one working day. A survey before ordering confirms wall structure, glare from windows and the cable route to the nearest outlet.

Questions about APLX-86

Who is the Promethean ActivPanel LX APLX-86 designed for?

The APLX-86 suits large rooms such as lecture halls, training centres and boardrooms where an 86-inch 4K screen must be read from a distance. Its 3840 x 2160 resolution and 178° viewing angle keep content readable for seated audiences, and the touch layer supports 20 continuous touch points for group work at the board. Universities and schools in Doha and Education City are typical buyers for this size.

Does the APLX-86 come with a built-in operating system?

No. The ActivPanel LX is supplied without an operating system, so you choose Windows, Android (EDLA-certified) or Chrome OS to suit your environment. A single OPS slot accepts optional modules, and Promethean lists OPS-A (Android), OPS-M (Windows) and Chromebox as accessories. Tell us which platform you use when you request a quote so the right module is included.

How accurate and responsive is the touch on this model?

The touch layer offers 20 continuous touch points, 1 mm touch accuracy, a 10 ms response time and a 200 Hz scan rate. Palm rejection and palm erase are included, and pen and touch differentiation is supported. Two battery-less pens come in the box, with a 3 mm pen tip diameter and an integrated full-length pen tray. These details matter when several students write on the glass at the same time.

Will it work in a hot classroom or a lobby with glass frontage in Qatar?

Keep it indoors in an air-conditioned room. The stated operating temperature is 0 °C to 40 °C, with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Qatar summer temperatures can exceed 45 °C, so a lobby with direct sun through glass or a hall without cooling is not suitable. Ask the installer to check room conditions during the site survey before you order.

Is the display bright enough for a boardroom with windows in West Bay?

The panel is rated at 350 cd/m² brightness, or 400 cd/m² without cover glass, and it has an anti-glare front glass and an ambient light sensor. These figures help in a meeting room with daylight, but strong sun falling directly on the screen face should be assessed on site. A survey can check glare from windows and the best position for the panel before you commit to a layout.

What comes in the box with the APLX-86?

The box includes the panel, a 3 m HDMI cable, a 3 m USB A-B touch cable, a 2 m USB-C cable, a 3 m regional power cable, a remote control with two batteries, two pens, a mini PC bracket with screws, four M6 VESA mount screws, an antistatic bag, desiccant and a quick install guide. ActivInspire Personal is listed as included. Mounts and sound bars are sold separately, so mention them in your quotation request.

What wall or stand do I need for an 86-inch panel?

The VESA mount pattern is 800 x 600 mm, and the panel weighs 63.4 kg (76.6 kg packed), so the wall must carry that load on a suitable bracket. Promethean lists a fixed wall mount, a height-adjustable wall mount, a fixed-height mobile stand and a height-adjustable mobile stand, all compatible with all sizes. Have the wall structure checked during a site survey, and quote the mount with the panel.

Does the APLX-86 work with Qatar's mains power?

Its power input is listed as 100 V to 240 V AC, which covers Qatar's 240 V supply. Typical power consumption is 175 W and standby consumption is 0.5 W or less. A regional power cable is included in the box. An electrician should confirm the outlet and circuit during installation, and the cable route should reach a suitable socket near the mounting point.

Which ports will a school in Al Rayyan need for teachers' laptops and a classroom PC?

The front carries one HDMI 2.0 input, one USB-A 2.0 port, one USB-B touch port and one USB-C 2.0 port with 15 W Power Delivery, which suits a teacher's laptop. The rear adds two HDMI 2.0 inputs, two USB-A ports, one USB-B touch port, LAN in and out, VGA, audio in and out and RS232. Count the sources and control links each classroom needs, and list them when you request a quote.

Can I use the APLX-86 with a Mac or with Chromebooks?

Touch compatibility is listed for Mac OS 10.8 to 10.11 and macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, and for Chrome OS. Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is also listed. Promethean offers a Chromebox to extend an existing Chrome OS setup to the panel, which suits schools already using Chromebooks. Confirm your exact macOS version and software needs when requesting a quote, because support depends on the configuration you choose.

Is the APLX-86 Energy Star certified, and does that matter for a government tender?

The source data lists Energy Star certification as No for the 86-inch model, while the 65-inch and 75-inch models are listed as certified. Regulatory certifications for this model are CE, FCC, IC, UL, CUL, CB and RCM. Government buyers preparing a tender in Qatar should include this list in their evaluation criteria, and SmartRooms Qatar can work from your tender documents on a quotation.

Can a university in Education City order several APLX-86 units on one purchase order?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. For a university equipping several 86-inch lecture halls, one quotation can cover panels, mounts and installation, with a site survey for each room before fitting. Request a quote listing the quantity, the delivery location and whether each room needs a mount.
