What the OPS-M4 N97 adds to an ActivPanel

The OPS-M4 N97 is an Open Pluggable Specification computing module from Promethean. Instead of placing a separate computer on a desk beside the display, it slides into the back of a compatible ActivPanel and gives the panel its own Intel N97 processor, Intel UHD graphics, 8 GB of DDR5 RAM running at 4800 MHz and a 256 GB SSD. Lessons and meetings can start from the panel itself. The module is built for schools that work within the Microsoft ecosystem, and it can be supplied with Windows 11 Pro or without an operating system.

Ports, wireless and security features

Video inputs and outputs are the first thing most staff check. The module has one HDMI input that supports 4K at 30 Hz, and one HDMI output that supports 4K at 60 Hz with CEC control. Other connections include:

• Two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports
• One USB Type-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 1, data only)
• One microSD slot, one headphone output and one microphone input
• Gigabit RJ45 Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2

Planning the installation and the environment

The module is rated for an operating temperature of 0 °C to 45 °C, with storage between -20 °C and 70 °C and humidity of 10% to 90% non-condensing. Power is 12 to 19 V DC, with a maximum consumption of 60 W and 0.5 W in standby. The module measures 200 x 120 x 30 mm and weighs 0.7 kg, so it needs little space behind the display. Installation should be carried out by a qualified installer. The manufacturer notes that components not supplied by Promethean may affect performance, safety and warranty, so ask the installer to confirm every accessory before fitting.
