OPS4-5P8R256SV

What the OPS4-5P8R256SV adds to an ActivPanel

The OPS4-5P8R256SV is an OPS-M4 i5 computing module, a plug-in unit that fits the OPS slot of a compatible ActivPanel. Instead of running a separate PC beside the display, the panel runs its own 12th Gen Intel Core i5 system, so teachers and presenters can open files, launch applications and join calls straight from the screen. The module is designed for schools working within the Microsoft ecosystem.

Specifications that matter for school and office IT

• Processor and graphics: 12th Gen Intel Core i5 with Intel Iris XE graphics, which the manufacturer lists as supporting 4K at 60 Hz.
• Memory and storage: 8 GB DDR4 across two modules at 3200 MHz, with a 256 GB NVMe SSD.
• Security and touch: the data sheet lists TPM 2.0, and the module is listed as touchscreen compatible.
• Video: one HDMI 1.4 input and one HDMI 2.0 output, both up to 4K.
• Ports: two USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, two USB-C (USB 4.0 Gen 3x2, Thunderbolt, DP Alt Mode) and one combined 3.5 mm audio jack.
• Networking: integrated 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, AX200 Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, with two antennas in the box.

Power, temperature and physical planning

The module is rated for a 12 to 19 V DC supply and draws 68 W in operation, with 0.5 W in standby. Its operating range is 0°C to 40°C at 10% to 90% humidity, and storage is rated from -20°C to 60°C. In Qatar, where summer heat outside air-conditioned buildings can exceed 45°C, the panel should sit in a cooled room rather than a corridor or open area. At 200 x 120 x 30 mm and 0.7 kg, the module is a compact addition to the panel. Confirm the panel model and power arrangement with SmartRooms Qatar before ordering.

Where it fits in Qatar

A primary school in Al Sadd refitting its classrooms can add a module to each room, so lessons run from the screen without moving a separate computer between spaces. A university training room in Education City hosting sessions with colleagues abroad can use the USB-C ports, which support DP Alt Mode, to connect a laptop quickly. A company boardroom in Lusail that holds calls with teams in other countries can rely on Wi-Fi 6E or the gigabit Ethernet port for video sessions.

Planning the installation

• Confirm the ActivPanel model and that its OPS slot accepts this module before ordering.
• Check that the room is air-conditioned and stays within the 0°C to 40°C operating range.
• Book a free site survey for larger projects, such as several classrooms, to plan cabling, network points and power.
• Use a qualified installer. The manufacturer notes that components not supplied by Promethean may affect performance, safety and warranty.
• For multi-room projects, an LPO or tender reference can be used, and payment is available by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order.
