What the ViewBoard 8650-5F is built to do

The ViewSonic ViewBoard 8650-5F is an 86-inch interactive display for rooms where one screen has to handle lessons, presentations and video calls. Its panel offers 3840x2160 resolution on an IPS TFT LCD with DLED backlighting, in a 16:9 landscape format with a slim bezel. Brightness is rated at 350 nits typical, with a 1200:1 typical contrast ratio and 5000:1 dynamic contrast.

An anti-glare coating and 7H surface hardness help in rooms that take in daylight from windows. The panel is listed at 1.07 billion colours with 10-bit depth, an 8ms response time and 178-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, so content stays readable from the back of a room.

Touch, writing and the software bundle

Touch uses infrared recognition with a touch resolution of 32768 x 32768. Windows sessions support up to 40 touch points and Android supports 20, so more than one student can write at the board at the same time. Two touch pens are included in the box.

The bundle includes myViewBoard for annotation and whiteboard work, myViewBoard for Windows on a compatible slot-in PC, and the vCast/myViewBoard Display app for wireless presentation. ViewSonic Launcher offers split-screen and picture-in-picture modes, which is useful when a teacher shows a document beside a live source.

Connectivity: one USB-C port and slot-in PC options

Three HDMI 2.0 inputs are fitted, with HDMI 1 supporting CEC and ARC, and an HDMI output runs at 4K 60Hz. The USB Type-C port carries DisplayPort 1.2, USB 2.0, 65W power delivery and 100M Ethernet, so a compatible laptop can share its screen, charge and go online through one cable. Other ports include four USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 Type-A connectors, two USB Type-B touch ports, two RJ45 LAN ports, an RS-232 control port, an optical S/PDIF output and an earphone output.
