What the AMP-450BP does in a Tesira room

The Biamp Tesira AMP-450BP is a four-channel conferencing amplifier designed to feed Desono C-IC6 ceiling speakers. It is an AVB/TSN enabled endpoint in a Tesira system, so it is configured through Tesira software rather than by hand at each unit. It is powered over Ethernet using PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at Class 4, 30 W), which means one network cable carries power to the amplifier at the ceiling.

Power, channels and burst output

Output power depends on how the channels are used. With all four channels driven, each channel delivers 3 W continuous. Driving two channels raises this to 7 W each, and a single channel delivers 15 W continuous, measured at both 4 Ω and 8 Ω. Because channel count and power are set in software, a room can trade channels for power without changing hardware.

For short peaks, the unit provides burst output measured to ANSI/CTA-2006-B, up to 50 W per channel into 4 Ω or 30 W into 8 Ω. An internal limiter is included. Distortion is below 0.3 percent at continuous power, frequency response is within ±1 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and dynamic range is above 90 dB, all of which matter for clear speech in a conference room.

Installing above the ceiling

The amplifier can sit close to the speakers or be mounted directly on the back can of a Desono C-IC6, which shortens speaker runs. Four RJ-45 connectors allow termination-free connections to compatible speakers. A mechanical enclosure is available to protect electrical connections and help meet typical code requirements for above-ceiling work. The unit is evaluated to UL 2043 for air handling spaces, which is relevant where the ceiling void forms part of the air path.
