Overview

The Sony SRG-A12 is a 12x optical zoom PTZ camera that follows a presenter automatically with PTZ Auto Framing, tracking up to eight people in a group. It outputs 4K over HDMI and 1080p over SDI, streams over IP with NDI|HX, RTMP, SRT and RTSP, and runs on a single PoE++ network cable. Suited to boardrooms, lecture halls and hybrid meetings across Doha. Request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar.

What the Sony SRG-A12 does in a meeting room

The SRG-A12 is a PTZ camera built around a 1/2.5-type Exmor R CMOS sensor with approximately 8.5 megapixels and a 12x optical zoom lens. At its widest setting the horizontal viewing angle is about 70 degrees, which lets one unit cover a full table or a small lecture room. Pan runs from -170 to 170 degrees and tilt from -20 to 90 degrees, so presets can frame a speaker, a whiteboard or the audience from one fixed position.

Automatic framing that keeps people in shot

PTZ Auto Framing runs on built-in AI analytics that detect a person's head and follow them as they move, adjusting pan, tilt and zoom without an operator. In single-person mode the camera keeps one presenter framed. In Multi-person Framing it follows up to eight people, with one primary subject and secondary subjects chosen by how close they sit to that subject. Lead Room Effect leaves space in front of the subject's gaze, with three margin levels. Tracking Range limits framing to one predefined area, and Fixed Angle Position moves to and holds that area when someone enters it.

Face Registration lets the primary subject be recognised from stored face data, and firmware 4.0 adds external JPEG face import for preparing settings off site.

Outputs and IP streaming for hybrid rooms

The camera sends video in three ways at the same time. An HDMI Type-A output delivers up to 3840 x 2160 at 29.97p, 25p or 23.98p. A BNC SDI output supports 3G-SDI (Level A and B) and HD-SDI up to 1920 x 1080. For IP, the camera streams up to 4K using H.264 or H.265 over RTP, RTSP, RTMP or RTMPS, SRT, or NDI|HX, which requires firmware 3.0 or later. Bitrates range from 512 Kbps to 50 Mbps, so the same unit can feed a meeting platform, a streaming server and a local display.

Where the SRG-A12 fits across Qatar

  • Boardrooms in West Bay or Lusail: a ceiling-mounted unit frames the chair and up to eight participants in a corporate or government board meeting that also connects colleagues abroad.
  • Lecture theatres in Education City: the camera follows a presenter across the room while streaming to an external capture system for students who join remotely.
  • School sports halls in Al Rayyan: with firmware 4.0 or later, Ball Sports (Basketball) mode gives an overview of indoor 5v5 games when the unit is placed at the centre of the court along the sideline.

What to plan before the unit is installed

  • Network: the camera needs a switch that supports IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 (PoE++), drawing up to 71.3 W.
  • Environment: the operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C, so keep it in air-conditioned rooms, because summer temperatures in Qatar regularly pass 45 °C.
  • Mounting: a ceiling bracket is supplied, and the mounting angle is limited to ±15 degrees.
  • Recording: the SRG-A12 does not record internally, so plan an external recorder or encoder.
  • Firmware: several features, including Ball Sports mode and external face import, depend on firmware 4.0, which the manufacturer lists as scheduled and subject to change.

Send SmartRooms Qatar your room size, ceiling height, cable route and intended use, and request a quote for the SRG-A12. A free site survey will confirm the mounting position before installation.

Questions about SRG-A12

Who is the Sony SRG-A12 designed for in Qatar?
It suits boardrooms, meeting rooms, lecture halls and training rooms where one camera must frame the presenter without an operator. Government bodies, universities and companies in West Bay, Lusail or Education City use cameras like this for hybrid meetings. The 12x optical zoom and roughly 70 degree wide angle cover rooms of varied size. Request a quote to confirm the layout suits it.
How does PTZ Auto Framing choose which person to follow?
The camera uses built-in AI analytics to detect heads and track a presenter as they move, adjusting pan, tilt and zoom automatically. In multi-person mode it follows up to eight people, with a primary subject and secondary subjects chosen by proximity to the primary. The primary subject can be set through Face Registration or the web app. Lead Room Effect adds space in front of the subject's gaze.
Does the SRG-A12 record video on its own?
No. The SRG-A12 has no recording function, so video must be captured by an external recorder, an encoder or a streaming server. It can output 4K over HDMI, 1080p over SDI and IP streams to such systems at the same time. Universities in Education City planning lecture capture should mention their recording setup when requesting a quote so the signal path can be checked.
Can it frame a group in a boardroom or panel discussion?
Yes. Multi-person Framing tracks a group of up to eight people, which suits panel discussions, corporate conferences and seated boardroom meetings. People seated near the primary subject are included automatically, and framing adjusts as they move. The number of people framed depends on the settings. A meeting room in Msheireb with a seated group can be covered from a single ceiling-mounted unit.
Can the SRG-A12 follow basketball in a school sports hall in Al Rayyan?
Yes, with firmware 4.0 or later. Ball Sports (Basketball) mode tracks the ball and players from an overview angle in indoor 5v5 games. It does not follow an individual holding the ball, cannot run at the same time as Person Framing, must be installed at the centre of the court along the sideline, and needs an official ball. Confirm the firmware version before planning around this mode.
What network and power does it need?
The SRG-A12 supports PoE++ to IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 Class 8, drawing up to 71.3 W, so a single network cable carries power, video and control. Use a switch that supports this standard. Alternatively, a DC 19.5 V input with a supplied AC adaptor draws up to 80 W. The AC power cord varies by country of sale, so confirm the Qatar configuration when requesting a quote.
Which video outputs and resolutions does it offer?
The HDMI Type-A output supports up to 3840 x 2160 at 29.97p, 25p or 23.98p, plus 1920 x 1080 up to 59.94p and 50p, and lower formats. The BNC SDI output carries 3G-SDI and HD-SDI at 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720. HDMI and SDI can run at the same time as IP streaming, so one camera can serve a meeting room and a production feed together.
Can it stream to colleagues abroad during hybrid meetings?
It supports IP streaming over RTP, RTSP, RTMP, RTMPS, SRT and NDI|HX, using H.264 or H.265 up to 4K resolution and 60 fps, with bitrates from 512 Kbps to 50 Mbps. NDI|HX requires firmware 3.0 or later. Before ordering, teams linking Doha with offices abroad should confirm that their meeting platform or streaming server accepts one of these protocols.
Can it be used in Qatar's summer heat, for example in a lobby?
The operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C, and storage range is -20 °C to +60 °C. Summer temperatures in Qatar often exceed 45 °C, so the unit should sit in an air-conditioned room rather than a window-facing lobby or an outdoor area. Confirm the room's temperature and airflow with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.
How is it mounted, and what limits the mounting angle?
The camera includes ceiling bracket A and B and a mounting plate for ceiling installation, plus a 1/4-20 UNC tripod screw hole. The mountable angle is limited to 15 degrees either side. A free site survey helps confirm ceiling strength, cable routes to the switch and the best position for the presenter area before drilling.
How many presets can it store and how is it controlled?
The SRG-A12 stores up to 256 preset positions through CGI control and 100 through VISCA. It is supplied with an IR remote commander, and can be controlled through a web app on Windows 11, macOS 14, iPadOS 17 or Android 14, or through VISCA over IP. The optional RM-IP500 remote controller is available for broadcast-style operation.
Can a school or government entity buy it through an LPO?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar supplies the SRG-A12 against purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. The product is covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If a school is ordering several units for different classrooms, send the quantities and room list when requesting a quote.
