Overview

The Barco NGS-D320 Lite is a compact single-channel encoder and decoder that accepts one source up to 4096x2160 and streams it over IP using H.264. Its two 1GbE Ethernet ports, DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI connections and Flexible Loop Through feature suit control rooms, video walls and lecture spaces in Qatar that need one feed routed across a building network. Request a quote.

What the NGS-D320 Lite does

The NGS-D320 Lite is a single-channel encoder and decoder from Barco's TransForm N range. It takes one video source, compresses it into an H.264 stream and sends that stream across an Ethernet network to a display or video wall elsewhere in the building. The unit can also decode incoming streams, so the same hardware serves both ends of a link. Its single channel and single stream make it a focused choice for one screen or one wall input rather than a multi-feed matrix.

Inputs, outputs and audio

Each side of the unit carries a Dual Link DVI, a DisplayPort and an HDMI 1.4 connector. The input side uses DisplayPort 1.1a, while the output side uses DisplayPort 1.2. Maximum input bandwidth is 330MHz, and a Flexible Loop Through feature is included. Audio runs through 3.5mm jacks for stereo line level in and out, plus a combined mono microphone input and stereo headphone output. USB is provided through three Type A ports and one Micro-B port.

  • Input: Dual Link DVI, DisplayPort 1.1a and HDMI 1.4
  • Output: Dual Link DVI, DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4
  • Audio: 16-bit, 48kHz stereo, uncompressed
  • Remote keyboard and mouse with native keymap support

Video quality, streaming limits and latency

The unit accepts graphics inputs from 640x480 up to 2560x1600 at 24 to 60Hz, and up to 4096x2160 at 24 to 30Hz. The H.264 encoder sets the practical limits on what can be streamed: 1920x1200 at 60fps, 2560x1600 at 30fps, or 4096x2160 at 15fps. Video bitrate ranges from 384kbps to 12Mbps. End-to-end latency from encoder to decoder is 80 to 200ms, with a typical figure of 100ms. Those figures suit presentations, monitoring and control room content, but any fast-moving motion should be tested with real content before a wall is commissioned.

Network behaviour and management

Two 1GbE Ethernet ports run full duplex, and IP addressing can be set by DHCP, link-local or a fixed address. Unicast and multicast delivery are supported using IGMP v3, RTP and RTSP. Each channel allows up to 12 simultaneous RTSP sessions in multicast mode and 2 in unicast mode. Devices are discovered with Zeroconf and SAP. Standalone setup runs from an HTTPS web interface, and firmware can be upgraded from that interface or from a USB storage device.

Where it fits in Qatar

A government authority in Lusail might feed a briefing room display from a control room on another floor, with the encoder housed in an air-conditioned comms cabinet. A private school in Al Sadd could stream a teacher's laptop to several lecture screens across a block of classrooms. A hotel conference suite in West Bay, where guests expect quiet rooms, can keep the unit in an adjacent back room, where its typical noise level of 32 dBA at 20°C is unlikely to be noticed.

What to plan before ordering

  • Install in air-conditioned space: operating range 0°C to 40°C
  • Check that switches support multicast and IGMP v3 where needed
  • Plan power: 35W typical and 48W maximum with the external supply
  • Choose mounting: optional VESA adapter plate or a 1U rack for two devices

Summer temperatures in Doha regularly pass 45°C, so do not mount the unit in a cabinet exposed to sun or in a space without cooling. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to confirm cable routes, rack space and network paths before quotation. Request a quote and the SmartRooms Qatar team will reply with a quotation, usually within one working day, covering supply, delivery to all eight municipalities of Qatar and professional installation where required.

Questions about NGS-D320 Lite

What is the Barco NGS-D320 Lite used for?
It is a single-channel encoder and decoder that turns one video source into an H.264 stream over an Ethernet network, and it can decode incoming streams for display. In Qatar it suits a control room that needs to push a feed to a video wall on another floor, or a briefing room that receives a source from a separate office. It is set up through a standalone HTTPS web interface.
Does the NGS-D320 Lite support 4K?
Partly, and the frame rate depends on the resolution. Graphics inputs run up to 4096x2160 at 24 to 30Hz, but the H.264 encoder streams 4096x2160 at 15fps, 2560x1600 at 30fps and 1920x1200 at 60fps. For a 4K source with moving video, test the frame rate with your real content before ordering several units, so the quotation matches what your screens need.
Which video and audio connections does it offer?
The input side has one Dual Link DVI, one DisplayPort 1.1a and one HDMI 1.4 connector, and the output side has one Dual Link DVI, one DisplayPort 1.2 and one HDMI 1.4. Maximum input bandwidth is 330MHz, and Flexible Loop Through is included. Audio uses 3.5mm jacks for stereo line in and out, plus a combined mono microphone input and stereo headphone output. Three Type A USB ports and one Micro-B port are also fitted.
How many screens can receive one feed in a lecture hall or school?
Multicast allows up to 12 simultaneous RTSP sessions per channel, while unicast allows up to 2. A private school in Al Sadd equipping a block of classrooms could send one teacher's laptop feed to several screens using multicast, provided the network switches support IGMP v3. Because the unit has one channel and one stream, count the sessions for each lecture room separately when planning.
Will it work on our existing IP network?
It supports DHCP, link-local and fixed IP addressing, plus unicast and multicast delivery using IGMP v3, RTP, RTSP, DNS and NTP. Devices are discovered through Zeroconf and SAP. Multicast streaming depends on your switches handling IGMP correctly, so your IT team should confirm switch settings and bandwidth before installation. The two 1GbE ports run full duplex.
How is it managed and updated?
Standalone setup and monitoring run through an HTTPS web interface. Firmware can be upgraded either through the same web interface or from a USB storage device. Remote keyboard and mouse control is supported with a native keymap. Boot time is 15 seconds, so a unit restarted after a power interruption returns to service quickly.
Can it be installed in a hot equipment room in Doha?
Only in air-conditioned space. The operating range is 0°C to 40°C and the storage range is -20°C to 70°C. Outdoor summer temperatures in Doha regularly exceed 45°C, so do not place the unit in a sun-exposed cabinet, a rooftop room or a lobby cabinet without cooling. Confirm the room temperature with your facilities team and leave airflow space around the 170mm deep unit.
What are its dimensions and mounting options?
The unit measures 38mm high, 170mm wide and 170mm deep, and weighs 1 kg. An optional VESA adapter plate is available, as is an optional 1U rack mount that holds two devices side by side. The packaged shipment measures 382mm by 273mm by 85mm and weighs 2.2 kg. Before ordering, measure the cabinet space and cable routes; SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys.
What power does it need, and does it suit Qatar mains?
It uses a 12VDC external locking power supply rated for 100-240VAC input at 60W. Typical consumption is 35W and maximum is 48W. The 100-240VAC input range covers Qatar's 240V, 50Hz mains. Confirm the plug type with the SmartRooms Qatar team, since BS 1363 Type G sockets are standard in Qatar, and plan a socket within reach of the cable run.
Is it quiet enough for a boardroom or meeting room?
Its typical noise level is 32 dBA at 20°C, which is low for a meeting environment. A hotel conference suite in West Bay can place the unit in an adjacent back room or comms cabinet, away from guests. Keeping it outside the boardroom also keeps cabling tidy and makes future maintenance easier for the facilities team.
Can we order several units through an LPO or a government tender?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs), government tenders including those on Monaqasat, and payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. An IT department equipping several lecture halls at a university can raise one LPO covering multiple units, and the team usually replies with a quotation within one working day. The unit is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
