Two channels that work as encoder, decoder or both

The Barco NGS-D320 Pro is a networked H.264 encoder and decoder built around two independent channels. Each channel can be set at runtime to encode a local source, decode a stream arriving from the network, or do both. One small chassis can therefore send content from one room and receive it in another, instead of requiring separate devices for each role.

It accepts DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort sources and carries audio and USB HID signals alongside the video. The remote keyboard and mouse function uses a native keymap, so an operator at the receiving end can work on the source computer. This is useful for application sharing, simulation and training.

Video performance and what the codec allows

Graphics are supported from 640x480 up to 2560x1600 at 24 to 60Hz, and up to 4096x2160 at 24 to 30Hz. The H.264 encoder, up to level 5.1, handles 1920x1200 at 60 fps on both channels, or 2560x1600 at 30 fps on both channels. A single channel can encode 2560x1600 at 60 fps, and 4096x2160 at 30 fps when the unit runs version 2.1 or higher. Each stream ranges from 384 kbps to 24 Mbps, and end-to-end latency is 80 to 200 ms, typically 100 ms. Network planning for multicast and unicast delivery

The unit has two 1GbE full-duplex ports, which can be connected redundantly over copper Ethernet. It supports unicast and multicast with IGMP v3, along with RTP and RTSP, and it obtains addresses by DHCP, link-local or fixed IP. Multicast allows up to 12 simultaneous RTSP sessions per channel, while unicast allows two per channel. One source feeding a video wall is a multicast case, whereas a few point-to-point viewers suit unicast. Zeroconf and SAP discovery lists the devices on the network in the web interface, which simplifies commissioning across a multi-floor building. Firmware can be updated from the HTTPS web interface or from a USB storage device.

Heat, power and mounting in Qatar

The operating range is 0°C to 40°C, and storage is -20°C to 70°C. Outdoor temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45°C in summer, so the unit should sit in an air-conditioned comms room, equipment cabinet or ceiling void where ambient temperature stays within the operating range.
