Overview

The Hikvision DS-6908UDI(C) is a 4K video wall decoder that drives up to eight HDMI 1.4 outputs at 3840 × 2160@30 Hz from network cameras, NVRs and computer sources. It handles 128 decoding channels, keeps all outputs frame-synchronised, and supports 64 scenes. Suited to control rooms, command centres and boardrooms in Doha where multiple feeds need to appear on one display wall.

What the DS-6908UDI(C) does on a video wall

The Hikvision DS-6908UDI(C) is a 4K decoder from the 6900 Series, built to take video from network sources and show it on a display wall. It accepts feeds from network cameras, NVRs, computers and video conference terminals, decodes them, and sends them to up to eight HDMI 1.4 outputs. Each output can carry 4K at 3840 × 2160@30 Hz, and the unit is rated for LED displays at up to 2.6 MP per port.

Decoding capacity and window layouts

The decoder provides 128 video decoding channels. In practice, 64 channels of 2 MP video or 128 channels of 720p video can reach the wall at the same time. It decodes streams up to 32 MP, and once window division reaches a set threshold it switches to sub-streams automatically. Each signal source can be split into 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 16, 25 or 36 windows, and each screen supports either four 1080p windows or two 4K windows.

Inputs, outputs and synchronisation

  • Inputs: two HDMI 1.4 inputs, taking either two 1080p channels at 50 or 60 Hz, or one 4K channel at 30 Hz. The 4K input is available only on the odd-numbered port.
  • Outputs: eight HDMI 1.4 outputs with embedded audio, plus external audio through a DB15-to-BNC port.
  • Synchronisation: frame synchronisation keeps the images on all HDMI outputs aligned, which matters when one picture spans several panels.

Where it fits in Qatar

A security operations room in West Bay or Msheireb can route feeds from several IP cameras onto one wall, with up to 64 saved scenes for different shifts. Up to 100 view groups can rotate automatically on the HCP client, with camera location, scene and time set for each group. For network sources that support it, PTZ control covers eight-direction movement, auto-scanning, preset calling and focus adjustment.

A university or training centre in Education City can use the decoder to show lecture-capture recordings or conference feeds from several rooms on one display wall, particularly where teams in Doha connect with partners abroad through video conference terminals. Computer and conference inputs connect directly, so a presentation can share the wall alongside camera views.

For a logistics or industrial site in Mesaieed or the Industrial Area, a control room may show gate, yard and plant cameras together. The listed operating range is -10 °C to 55 °C with 0% to 90% RH humidity, but Qatari summers and dust argue for an air-conditioned, dust-controlled equipment room rather than an unprotected space. Confirm site conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.

Planning the installation

  • Dimensions are 440 mm × 44.5 mm × 320.8 mm, with a net weight of up to 5.2 kg.

Questions about DS-6908UDI(C)

What is the Hikvision DS-6908UDI(C) used for?
It is a 4K decoder that takes video from network cameras, NVRs, computers and video conference terminals and shows it on a video wall. It has two HDMI 1.4 inputs and eight HDMI 1.4 outputs, so one unit can drive a multi-screen wall from several sources. It suits control rooms and operations centres where live camera and conference feeds need to appear together.
How many outputs does it have, and what resolution can each one carry?
It has eight HDMI 1.4 outputs, and the maximum output resolution is 4K at 3840 × 2160@30 Hz. The output list also includes 1920 × 1080@60 Hz and 2560 × 1440@30 Hz. For LED displays, single-port loading reaches 2.6 MP, and frame synchronisation keeps the images on all outputs aligned so a picture spread across several panels stays matched.
Can all of its inputs take 4K?
No. The decoder has two HDMI 1.4 inputs, and the 4K input is available only on the odd-numbered port. Together the inputs can take two 1080p channels at 50 or 60 Hz, or one 4K channel at 30 Hz. Custom resolutions are also supported, with width from 800 to 1920 for 60 Hz inputs. Plan your source list around this before ordering.
Which video formats does it decode?
It decodes H.264, H.265, Smart264, Smart265 and MJPEG, plus HIK264 at up to four channels of 720p. Streams up to 32 MP are supported. Audio decoding covers G.722, G.711, G.726, MPEG, AAC and PCM. H.264 is the default encoding format and H.265 is also supported, which helps when cameras and recorders use different codecs.
How many camera feeds can a security room in West Bay show at once?
Decoding capacity is 128 channels in total, which can be 64 channels of 2 MP video or 128 channels of 720p. Each screen can show four 1080p windows or two 4K windows, and each source can be split into up to 36 windows. A West Bay security room mixing 4K and HD cameras should total its channel load against its camera list before choosing the number of units.
Can a night shift team in Doha rotate camera views and control cameras from the wall?
Yes. Up to 64 scenes can be saved, and the HCP client can auto-switch up to 100 view groups, with camera location, scene and time set for each group. For supported network sources, PTZ control covers eight directions, auto-scanning and preset calling. Operators can also double-click a sub-window to zoom in and out. Agree the scene plan during the site survey.
Would it suit a university in Education City showing lecture recordings?
It can, because the decoder accepts computer and video conference inputs directly and can play recorded video files onto the wall. The screen can be split into 4, 9, 16 or more windows, so several lecture halls can share one display wall. Confirm how many simultaneous sources you need, since the two inputs are the limit on live feeds connected directly to the unit.
Can it operate reliably in Qatar's summer heat?
The listed working temperature range is -10 °C to 55 °C, with humidity from 0% to 90% RH. Summer temperatures in Qatar often exceed 45 °C, so install the unit in an air-conditioned, dust-controlled room rather than an unventilated cabinet. The device can also raise an alarm when a temperature threshold is exceeded. Confirm your site conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.
Does it run on Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz supply?
The power input is rated 100 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, and the unit draws under 70 W. A 240 V, 50 Hz supply falls within that stated range. A power cord and grounding cable are included. Confirm the plug and socket arrangement with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation, and plan a proper grounding point at the rack.
How much rack space and weight should I plan for?
Dimensions are 440 mm wide, 44.5 mm high and 320.8 mm deep, with a net weight of up to 5.2 kg and a gross weight of up to 6.3 kg. A mounting bracket, four pads and a grounding cable are in the box. Compare the 320.8 mm depth with your rack or cabinet depth and allow room at the rear for cables before ordering. Our free site survey can check this.
Can a Doha operations team manage it remotely?
Yes. The device supports IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time and can be accessed through the PC client or a Chrome 45 or later web browser. Administrators can change and import or export parameters remotely, restart the unit, restore defaults, upgrade the device and read system logs. Alerts cover network disconnection, IP conflict, illegal access and temperature threshold exceedance.
Can SmartRooms Qatar supply this decoder against an LPO or a government tender?
Yes. We supply the DS-6908UDI(C) against purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and accept payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. We deliver to all eight municipalities of Qatar and can install the unit professionally after a free site survey. The product is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
