What the DS-6910UDI(C) does on a video wall

The DS-6910UDI(C) is a video wall decoder from Hikvision's 6900 Series. It receives network camera streams, NVR and DVR feeds, and HDMI sources from computers and video conference terminals, decodes them, and sends the results to up to ten HDMI outputs. Each output can feed a display or an LED processor, so one unit can manage a whole wall layout that operators arrange and switch from a control desk.

Decoding capacity and picture integrity

Capacity is the main reason to specify this unit. The specification lists 160 decoding channels, which covers 80 channels of 2 MP video or 160 channels of 720p. It decodes H.264 and H.265 streams in real time and handles streams up to 32 MP. Frame synchronization across all HDMI outputs keeps images on adjacent panels aligned, which matters when one picture spans several screens and any lag or tearing would be immediately visible to operators.

  • Ten HDMI 1.4 outputs at up to 3840 × 2160 at 30 Hz, plus three CVBS BNC outputs.
  • LED wall support of up to 2.6 MP per output port, with width and height limits stated in the specifications.
  • Two HDMI inputs, where the 4K input is available only on an odd-numbered port.

Layouts, scenes and camera control

Each screen can show four 1080p windows or two 4K windows, and each source window can be divided into 1 to 36 sub-windows. Operators can save up to 64 scenes and rotate up to 100 view groups automatically on the HCP client. PTZ control of network sources covers eight directions, auto-scan, aperture, focal length, focus and preset calls.

Where it fits in Qatar

  • A security control room in Msheireb or West Bay, where operators need many camera feeds on one wall, with rotating views for different floors or zones.
  • A stadium or event venue in Lusail, where an LED screen needs its own feeds for entry and crowd monitoring, and the 2.6 MP per port load must be planned against the processor.
  • A campus or training centre in Education City, where an operations room combines video conference output with camera feeds, using both HDMI inputs and the network ports.

Planning the installation

The unit measures 440 mm wide, 88 mm high and 321 mm deep, weighs up to 6.4 kg net and 7.8 kg packed, and includes a mounting bracket. Its power input accepts 100 to 240 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, which covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz supply, and it draws under 110 W. The stated working range is -10 °C to 55 °C at 0 to 90% RH. Ventilation matters in summer, so confirm cabinet airflow and room conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team before fixing it in a hot equipment room.

Plan the network before delivery. Two 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 ports and two optical ports let it join a fibre or copper LAN, and it supports IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time. Configuration is done through a PC client or a Chrome 45 or later browser.

Questions about DS-6910UDI(C)

Is this decoder suited to a security control room in Doha?
Yes, it suits control rooms that need many camera feeds on one wall. It takes network camera, NVR, DVR and HDMI sources and drives up to ten HDMI outputs. Each source window can be split into 1 to 36 sub-windows, and up to 100 view groups can rotate automatically on the HCP client. A security team in Msheireb or West Bay can arrange floors, entrances and car parks as separate scenes.
Can it handle a large camera count for a monitoring room?
The specification lists 160 decoding channels, covering 80 channels of 2 MP video or 160 channels of 720p. For H.264 and H.265 streams it lists 5 channels of 32 MP, 10 of 12 MP, 20 of 8 MP, 25 of 6 MP, 40 of 4 MP and 80 of 1080p. Compare your camera resolutions with these figures, and ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to check the mix before ordering.
Can a conference codec in a Doha boardroom feed 4K into it?
Yes, but only through the odd-numbered input port. The unit has two HDMI 1.4 inputs, accepting either two channels of 1080p at 50 or 60 Hz, or one channel of 4K at 30 Hz. Connect a 4K laptop or codec to the odd-numbered port and use the other port for a 1080p source. Decide which source goes to which input before the cabling is run.
How many screens can one unit drive for a video wall in Lusail?
It has ten HDMI 1.4 outputs, each up to 3840 × 2160 at 30 Hz, plus three CVBS BNC outputs. The specification lists a video wall scale of up to 10. Each output port supports an LED load of 2.6 MP, with widths from 144 to 4096 pixels and heights from 144 to 2160 pixels, in multiples of 2. Check your LED processor input sizes against these limits before ordering a venue screen.
Can operators steer PTZ cameras from the wall?
Yes. The unit supports PTZ control of network signal sources, including eight-direction movement, auto-scan, aperture, focal length, focusing and preset calls. An operator can select a camera on the wall and adjust it without leaving the control desk. Test the camera models you already own during the site survey, since control depends on the camera supporting these functions.
Will it work with cameras and recorders already installed?
It is designed to dock with 32 MP PanoVu cameras, fisheye cameras, conventional network cameras, DVRs, NVRs, XVRs and mainstream third-party security devices. It also supports ONVIF access and can handle IPv4 and IPv6 sources at the same time. For an office building with existing recorders, send the make and model list to SmartRooms Qatar so compatibility can be confirmed before quoting.
How should it be networked on a university campus in Education City?
The unit has two 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 ports and two optical ports (100BASE-FX/1000BASE-X), with automatic switching between optical and electrical links. A built-in Gigabit switch and NAT support help it sit alongside existing campus equipment. Plan the fibre route and IP addressing with your IT team before delivery so the decoder joins the network on the first visit.
Can a facilities team in Mesaieed or Ras Laffan manage it remotely?
Yes. Parameters can be read, configured, imported and exported remotely, along with system status and logs. The unit can also be restarted, restored to defaults and upgraded from a distance. It raises alarms for network disconnection, IP conflict, illegal access, over-temperature, decoding exceptions and device faults. User permissions let each operator control only the video wall modules assigned to them.
Does it carry audio from a conference into the wall?
Yes. It accepts embedded HDMI audio at 16-bit, 48 kHz or 32 kHz, in dual-channel stereo. Audio can leave through embedded HDMI or a separate DB15-to-BNC output. Supported audio decoding formats include G.711A, G.711U, G.722.1, G.726, MPEG, AAC-LC and PCM. This suits a meeting room where a call from a Doha team must be heard in the room while also appearing on the wall.
Can it be installed in an equipment room that gets hot in summer?
The specification lists a working temperature of -10 °C to 55 °C and humidity of 0 to 90% RH. Qatari summers can push room temperatures above 45 °C, and a closed cabinet can run hotter than the room, so plan ventilation and measure the temperature inside the rack. The source data does not state a dust rating, so confirm the installation environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before placing it in a dusty area.
What comes in the box, and what should I plan for separately?
The box includes the decoder, a regulatory and safety manual, a mounting bracket, a power cord, four pads and a grounding cable. The unit measures 440 × 88 × 321 mm and weighs up to 6.4 kg net. Displays, cameras, HDMI cabling and a network switch are not listed, so include them in your quotation request. A free site survey can confirm rack space and cable routes before installation.
