Overview

The Hikvision DS-6912UDI(C) is a 4K video wall decoder that takes feeds from cameras, NVRs and computers and shows them across up to 12 HDMI outputs. It offers 192 decoding channels, 64 scenes and window division from 1 to 36. Its 100 to 240 VAC power input covers Qatar's 240 V supply. It suits control rooms that need one wall fed from many sources.

What the DS-6912UDI(C) does on a video wall

The Hikvision DS-6912UDI(C) is a 4K video wall decoder. It receives video from network cameras, NVRs, computers and video conference terminals, then drives up to 12 HDMI displays from one chassis. Each of its 12 HDMI 1.4 outputs can run at 4K (3840 × 2160) at 30 Hz, and frame synchronisation keeps the outputs aligned so the wall reads as one picture rather than separate screens.

Inputs, decoding capacity and window layouts

Two HDMI 1.4 inputs take local sources: one 4K channel at 30 Hz on the odd-numbered port, or two 1080p channels at 50 or 60 Hz. For network sources, the decoder offers 192 channels in total, handling 96 channels of 2 MP video or 192 channels of 720p, and it decodes streams up to 32 MP. Each screen can show four 1080p windows or two 4K windows, and any window can be split into 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 16, 25 or 36 sub-windows.

  • Decoding formats: H.264, H.265, Smart264, Smart265, MJPEG and HIK264 streams.
  • Audio: embedded HDMI audio in, and embedded HDMI or DB15-to-BNC audio out.
  • Alarms and serial control: 8 alarm inputs, 8 alarm outputs, RS-232 and RS-485.

Scene control, PTZ and remote management

Up to 64 scenes can store custom wall layouts, and the HCP client can auto-switch up to 100 view groups, each with its own cameras, scenes and timing. Operators can double-click a sub-window to zoom in and double-click again to zoom out. PTZ control covers 8-direction movement, auto-scanning, aperture, focal length, focusing and preset calling for network cameras. The unit can be managed from a PC client or a web browser (Chrome 45 or later), supports user permissions for designated wall modules, and reports failures such as network disconnection, IP conflict, illegal access and temperature threshold alarms.

Where it fits in Qatar

Three situations suit this decoder well:

  • A security operations room in West Bay where one wall shows CCTV from several sites, with camera groups switched on a timed schedule.
  • A logistics dispatch area near Hamad International Airport showing gate, yard and perimeter feeds on one wall, with the 12 outputs mapped to the screen layout.
  • A university lab in Education City that plays recorded lecture or research footage on the wall and carries HDMI audio into the room.

Qatar summers can pass 45 °C, and the decoder is rated from -10 °C to 55 °C with 0% to 90% RH. A ventilated equipment room stays inside that range, but keep airflow clear around the chassis and confirm conditions during the free site survey.

What to plan before ordering

The chassis measures 440 × 88 × 321 mm and weighs up to 6.4 kg net (7.8 kg gross), and the box includes a mounting bracket, power cord, grounding cable and four pads. Plan rack space, 12 HDMI runs to the displays and the network: the unit has two 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 ports and two optical ports (100BASE-FX/1000BASE-X) with automatic switching between optical and electrical. Power draw is under 120 W on a 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz supply. Ask for a free site survey so the team can confirm cable routes and airflow before installation.

Questions about DS-6912UDI(C)

Who is the DS-6912UDI(C) designed for?
It is built for organisations that run a video wall from network sources, such as control rooms and security operations centres. It takes feeds from network cameras, NVRs, computers and video conference terminals and shows them on up to 12 HDMI displays. If your team watches many sources on one wall every day, this decoder handles layout, scenes and decoding from one unit. Ask our team to confirm the fit against your source count.
Can one decoder drive a 12-screen video wall in a West Bay operations room?
Yes, within the published limits. The unit has 12 HDMI 1.4 outputs, each able to run at 4K (3840 × 2160) at 30 Hz, and the video wall scale is listed as up to 12. Each screen can show four 1080p windows or two 4K windows. Confirm your panel resolution and layout during the free site survey so the outputs map cleanly to your screens before the quotation is finalised.
A school in Al Sadd wants a 4K lesson feed on the wall. Which input should it use?
Use the odd-numbered HDMI input. The decoder accepts one 4K channel at 30 Hz on that port, or two channels at 1080p at 50 or 60 Hz across the inputs. The inputs also accept embedded HDMI audio at 16-bit, 48 kHz or 32 kHz, stereo. Keep the lesson PC on the odd port and plan the second source at 1080p if the room needs two live feeds at once.
How many network streams can it decode at once?
The decoder provides 192 video decoding channels. The specification lists 96 channels of 2 MP video or 192 channels of 720p video decoded simultaneously, and it decodes streams up to 32 MP. It supports H.264, H.265, Smart264, Smart265, MJPEG and HIK264. Actual capacity depends on your camera resolutions and mix, so our team checks your camera list against these limits during the site survey before quoting.
Will it work with our existing CCTV and NVR system?
Usually, yes, provided your devices are on the supported list. The decoder accesses network cameras, NVRs, DVRs and XVRs, as well as mainstream third-party security devices, and supports ONVIF. It can take live views over RTP or RTSP, and it runs IPv4 and IPv6 sources at the same time. Send us your make, model and firmware details so we can confirm compatibility in the quotation.
Can operators control PTZ cameras from the wall?
Yes. The decoder supports PTZ control of network sources, including 8-direction movement, auto-scanning, aperture, focal length, focusing and preset calling. Operators can use a network keyboard or a serial port keyboard to change windows, run groups and switch scenes. In a Lusail security room, that lets one operator follow a camera on the main screen without leaving the console.
Is it suitable for the heat in a Qatar equipment room?
The operating temperature range is -10 °C to 55 °C, with humidity from 0% to 90% RH. Qatar summers can pass 45 °C, so a ventilated comms room stays within the rated range. Keep airflow clear around the chassis and avoid placing it in a sealed cabinet with no ventilation. Our team can review the room during the free site survey before installation.
Does the power supply work with Qatar's mains?
The power input is rated 100 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, and the unit draws under 120 W. Qatar's mains supply is 240 V at 50 Hz, which falls within that rated range. The package includes a power cord and a grounding cable. Confirm the plug type and any UPS or rack power arrangement in your quotation, so your electrical contractor can prepare the outlet.
Can it carry audio into a lecture theatre or meeting hall?
Yes. Each HDMI input carries embedded audio at 16-bit with 48 kHz or 32 kHz sampling, stereo. The 12 outputs can send embedded HDMI audio, or independent audio through a DB15-to-BNC port. A university hall in Education City could take a lecture from one source to the wall and the sound system at the same time. Confirm the audio routing for your room during planning.
What software is needed to set up the wall?
Configuration uses the HCP client, a PC client or a web browser, and the browser must be Chrome 45 or later. You can customise and save up to 64 scenes, and auto-switch up to 100 view groups on the HCP client. Remote management covers importing and exporting parameters, retrieving system logs, restarting, restoring defaults and upgrading the device.
Can it play back recorded footage on the wall?
Yes. The decoder can decode recorded video files and show them on the wall, with playback status and a selected time range. It can also capture images from the screen and display them on the wall. A research lab in Education City could review recorded experiments on the wall during a group session. Share your recording system details during the quotation so we can confirm the playback setup.
What should we plan before installing it?
Plan rack or wall space for a chassis of 440 × 88 × 321 mm, weighing up to 6.4 kg net and 7.8 kg gross. Allow for 12 HDMI runs, two gigabit-capable RJ-45 ports, two optical ports, and 8 alarm inputs and 8 alarm outputs if you use them. A free site survey lets our team check cable routes and airflow before your quotation, which usually arrives within one working day.
