Overview

The Hikvision DS-6924UDI-U(D) is a 4U video center that drives up to 24 HDMI outputs from a single chassis, with 432 system-wide decoding channels and support for up to 8 video walls. It also supports 128 scenes and ONVIF devices. Suited to control rooms, security operations centres and command rooms in Doha, West Bay and Lusail that monitor many camera feeds at once.

A 24-output video center for multi-screen control rooms

The Hikvision DS-6924UDI-U(D) is a 4U chassis that takes video streams from network cameras, recorders and other sources and sends them to 24 HDMI outputs that feed the panels of a video wall. Instead of dedicating a decoder to each screen, a control room can run many displays from one unit and divide them into several separate walls managed by a single system. When operators watch large numbers of camera feeds, this consolidation keeps the equipment footprint and cabling smaller than a set of standalone decoders would need.

Decoding capacity and window layouts

Capacity is the first figure to check. The system supports up to 432 decoding channels in total. The unit decodes 216 channels at 1080p and 30 fps, or 432 channels at 720p and 30 fps. Each output port can be divided into 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 16, 25 or 36 windows, with the number of rows and columns set to suit the layout. Up to 128 scenes can store different wall arrangements, and the scene auto-switch delay is 3 seconds when rotating between them.

  • Decodes H.264, H.265, Smart264, Smart265, HIK264, MPEG2 and MPEG4
  • Supports 32 MP decoding from panoramic, fisheye and standard cameras
  • Loading capacity of up to 2.6 MP per LED port
  • Four subtitles per video wall, up to 12 in total

Inputs, outputs and network connections

The unit has four HDMI inputs, and 4K input is available only on the odd-numbered ports. Its 24 HDMI1.4 outputs reach a maximum resolution of 4K at 30 Hz. HDMI embedded audio is accepted at the inputs and carried out through four HDMI audio outputs. For networking there is one 10 Gigabit SFP+ optical port, two 1000 Mbps RJ-45 ports and one USB 2.0 port. Live view of the wall supports four channels, and the system can be operated from a PC client or a web client that requires Chrome 45 or later.

Power, space and installation planning in Qatar

The chassis measures 442 mm wide, 177 mm high and 385 mm deep, and weighs 13.60 kg net or 16.60 kg packed. It has two power supply slots with one supply installed, and its power consumption is 550 W. The rated input of 100 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains supply. Operating humidity is 10% to 90% RH without condensation. The data does not give an operating temperature range, so confirm the conditions of the comms or control room with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation, particularly where dust or summer heat above 45°C could reach the equipment.

Where it fits in Qatar

A security operations room at a shopping mall in West Bay could show dozens of camera feeds across one wall, with one scene for entrances and another for car parks. A transport operations centre near Hamad International Airport could assign separate walls to terminal, apron and landside monitoring. A government authority in Msheireb running a joint command room could give each department its own scene within one system.

Plan the wall layout, camera count and cabling before ordering. Send SmartRooms Qatar your wall dimensions, the number of camera streams and the room layout, and request a quote. Quotations are usually issued within one working day, and a free site survey can confirm the rack position and access route before delivery. Request a quote to confirm the right configuration for your project.

Questions about DS-6924UDI-U(D)

Is this decoder suited to a security control room in West Bay?
Yes. It is built to show many camera feeds across one wall or several walls at once. Operators can divide each output into multiple windows and set the row and column layout. If the room needs separate views for entrances, car parks and retail floors, define those scenes during design. Request a quote with your screen count and camera count so the configuration matches the room.
What total decoding capacity does it offer?
The system supports up to 432 decoding channels in total. The unit decodes 216 channels at 1080p and 30 fps, or 432 channels at 720p and 30 fps. The capability table also lists mixed combinations, such as 12 channels of 32 MP or 48 channels of 8 MP for H.264 and H.265. Compare these figures with your camera count and resolutions before choosing a configuration.
Can 4K camera feeds be connected directly to the inputs?
4K input is accepted only on the odd-numbered HDMI inputs. The even-numbered inputs are limited to lower resolutions, such as 1920×1200 at 60 Hz. Custom input resolutions are also supported on odd-numbered ports, with widths from 800 to 4096 pixels. Decide which sources need 4K, such as a computer or a presentation source, before connecting them to the correct ports.
Does it work with cameras and recorders from other brands?
The data states that the device is compatible with mainstream third-party security devices and with devices accessed through the ONVIF protocol. It can decode feeds from network cameras, DVRs, NVRs and XVRs, including 32 MP panoramic, fisheye and standard cameras. Before ordering, confirm that your specific camera or recorder model and stream settings are supported. SmartRooms Qatar can review your device list as part of the quotation.
How many video walls and scenes can one unit manage?
The unit can manage up to 8 video walls, with a video wall scale of up to 24, and 432 open windows across the system. It stores up to 128 scenes, which can switch automatically with a 3-second delay. Subtitles are limited to 4 per wall and 12 in total. This suits an airport or operations centre that needs a different display arrangement for each zone of a building.
How could a government authority in Msheireb use one unit in a joint command room?
The outputs can be divided across several walls, with a separate scene for each department inside the same system. That avoids buying a separate decoder for each team. Government bodies can order by LPO or through a tender, and payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Send your room layout and department list when you request a quote.
What are the dimensions and weight, and how much rack space is needed?
The chassis measures 442 mm wide, 177 mm high and 385 mm deep. It weighs 13.60 kg net and 16.60 kg packed, and it is a 4U unit. Leave room at the rear for power and network cables, and confirm the rack can carry the weight. A SmartRooms Qatar engineer can carry out a free site survey to check the rack position and the route to the comms room before delivery.
What power is required in Qatar?
The rated input is 100 to 240 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, which includes Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz supply. Power consumption is 550 W. The chassis has two power supply slots, with one supply installed. The packing list includes an AC power cord and a grounding cable, so plan a dedicated, earthed outlet at the rack location.
Which network ports does it have, and how is it operated?
It has one 10 Gigabit SFP+ optical port, two 1000 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports and one USB 2.0 port. It can be accessed through a PC client or a web client that requires Chrome 45 or later. The packing list does not include an SFP+ module, so check with your IT team that a compatible optical module and fibre link are available before choosing the network design.
Can it show a live camera view on the video wall?
Yes. Live view of the video wall is supported on four channels, with resolutions from CIF (352×288) up to FCIF (704×576). Supported formats also include QCIF, HCIF and DCIF. This lets an operator check a single camera on the wall without changing the active scene. List the cameras you need live on the wall when requesting a quote.
Is it suitable for a hot, dusty room in Al Rayyan?
The data gives a working humidity range of 10% to 90% RH without condensation, but it does not state an operating temperature range. Do not assume the room is suitable for summer heat above 45°C or heavy dust. Keep the unit in an air-conditioned room with adequate ventilation, and ask SmartRooms Qatar to review the site conditions in Al Rayyan before installation.
Is the unit covered by warranty, and how do I request a quote?
The unit is covered by the manufacturer's warranty. SmartRooms Qatar supplies it to all 8 municipalities of Qatar and usually issues quotations within one working day. To prepare the quote, send the number of video walls, the camera count and the proposed rack location. Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Request a quote today.
