What the P403 SST is built to do

The NEC MultiSync P403 SST combines a 40-inch LCD panel with ShadowSense touch technology in one unit. The panel runs at 1920 x 1080 with a native refresh rate of 60 Hz, a typical contrast ratio of 4000:1 and brightness of 550 cd/m², rising to 700 cd/m² at maximum. The 4 mm toughened front glass carries a single-sided anti-reflective coating and transmits 92% of light, plus or minus 2%.

Touch performance for shared work

Up to 10 touches are recognised at once, so two or three people can annotate or move content together during a session. The touch area measures 888.7 x 508.58 mm, accuracy is below 1.5 mm and response time is 6 to 8 ms. Fingers, gloves and styluses of 4 mm or more are all accepted. The unit connects over USB 2.0 and the manufacturer states that no driver is needed on the host PC for major operating systems. Native multi-touch is listed for Windows 7 to 11, Linux and Android. Ambient light rejection is rated up to full sunlight, approximately 100,000 lux, which matters where daylight falls across the screen.

Connections, OPS slot and control

Video inputs include a D-sub 15-pin analogue connector, DisplayPort, DVI-D and HDMI, with HDCP on the digital inputs. The unit has two 3.5 mm audio inputs, a 3.5 mm audio output and a DisplayPort through-out. The OPS slot takes a Windows-based Slot-in-PC, which NEC recommends with an Intel Core i5 or i7 and WS7P, so a Windows computer can sit inside the display rather than beside it. Other OPS options listed include an HDBaseT receiver, HD-SDI input and a digital signage player. Remote management is available over 100Mbit LAN with SNMP, through RS-232C and by infrared remote. Integrated 10 W + 10 W speakers are included.

Where it fits in Qatar

A training room in Education City suits a 40-inch screen: small groups can mark up the same slide or map, and the touch area is large enough for a few people to stand beside it. A visitor lobby in Msheireb can run a directory or wayfinding application, but the screen must be kept out of direct afternoon sun. A clinic waiting area in Al Sadd can use the touch function for patient check-in content, with a toughened front and an IP40 front rating suited to a busy public space.

What to plan before you order

• Room temperature: the operating range is 0 to +35°C with 20 to 80% humidity. Qatar summers exceed this outdoors, so install the unit in an air-conditioned room away from direct sun.
• Wall and weight: 968 x 587 x 82 mm and 24 kg without stand, with VESA 300 x 300 mm mounting and M6 holes. Listed wall mounts and a trolley are available as options. A site survey checks the wall before drilling.
• Power: 122 W in the shipment Eco setting, under 0.5 W in ECO Standby, and 178 kWh a year at four operating hours per day, energy class C.
• Ingress: IP40 at the front and IP20 at the back, so keep the rear protected from dust and moisture.
