What the NEC P801 SST is built for

The NEC MultiSync P801 SST is an 80-inch professional large format display with a built-in touch layer based on ShadowSense technology. It is designed for rooms where several people write, annotate and share content on one screen, such as boardrooms, training rooms and lecture theatres. Its native resolution is 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, with a typical contrast ratio of 5000:1 and brightness of 500 cd/m², rising to 700 cd/m² at maximum.

Touch performance that matters in a live meeting

ShadowSense supports real multi-touch with up to 10 touch points, so two or more presenters can work on the screen at the same time. Touch accuracy is specified below 2 mm and response time is 6 to 8 ms, which keeps handwriting and dragging smooth. The touch area measures 1,796.88 x 1,015.84 mm. Finger, gloved hand and a stylus with a tip of 4 mm or more are all supported. The system filters out misleading touch sizes and ghost touches even in bright light, and its ambient light rejection is rated up to full sunlight at roughly 100,000 lux, which matters for rooms with large windows.

The touch layer connects over USB 2.0 and is powered through the USB link, so it works plug and play without drivers on the host PC. Native multi-touch is listed for Windows 7 to 11, Linux and Android. Mac OS works with default mouse functions only. Windows Ink recognises pen writing, erasing and gestures inside Microsoft Office applications.

Connections, OPS slot and optional expansion

• One DisplayPort, one HDMI and one DVI-D input, all with HDCP, plus one D-sub 15-pin analogue input
• Two 3.5 mm analogue audio inputs, with audio also available over HDMI or DisplayPort

• Integrated OPS slot rated up to 61 W, plus an interface extension slot

The OPS slot lets you fit a compatible computer module inside the display, which reduces the number of devices in the room and the amount of cabling. Available options include a Slot-in-PC using an Intel Core i5 or i7, with WS7P recommended, a digital signage player, an HDBaseT receiver and an HD-SDI module. The interface extension slot accepts analogue options such as component, composite and RGBHV inputs. These are optional accessories.

Planning the installation

The display measures 1,878 x 1,097 x 104 mm without its stand and weighs 85 kg without stand, so wall mounting requires a structural check and at least two people for handling. It uses a 400 x 400 mm VESA pattern with M8 holes. The operating range is 0 to +35°C at 20 to 80% humidity, so it belongs in air-conditioned rooms. In Qatar's summer, confirm the room's cooling capacity before ordering. The front is rated IP40 and the back IP20. Power consumption is 239 W in the shipment Eco setting and below 0.5 W in ECO standby. NEC gives an annual figure of 349 kWh based on four operating hours per day, with energy efficiency class B.
