A low-profile ceiling loudspeaker for clear speech

The Biamp Desono C-IC6LP-B is a 6.5-inch, two-way ceiling loudspeaker with a black grille, designed for conferencing rooms where speech must be understood from every seat. The bezel measures 341 mm across and the body is 101 mm deep, so the unit suits ceiling voids that stay shallow once ducts and cable trays are in place, a common constraint in new commercial and educational buildings.

Drivers and coverage pattern

A 6.5-inch treated paper cone handles the low frequencies, while a 1-inch treated soft dome tweeter with a waveguide covers the highs. The drivers are aligned on a coaxial arrangement, which keeps the sound source consistent across the listening area and produces a conical pattern rated at 140 degrees horizontally and vertically. The stated operating range is 63 Hz to 20 kHz at -10 dB, with a crossover at 2.5 kHz and a rated sensitivity of 87 dB.

Power, amplification and wiring

Passive rating: 60 W continuous at 8 ohms, 22 V nominal.
Recommended amplifier: 60 W to 120 W into 8 ohms (22 V to 31 V).
Sound pressure: 109 dB peak and 103 dB continuous.
Inputs: two RJ45 ports and a four-position Euroblock connector.

The loudspeaker operates passively with DSP. It requires a 65 Hz, 18 dB per octave high-pass filter and a DSP preset for ALC or Tesira. It is also designed to integrate with the Tesira AMP-450BP, a four-channel backpack PoE+ amplifier sold separately, which reduces wiring and installation time.

Where it fits in Qatar

Three typical settings show where this model earns its place:

A boardroom in a West Bay office tower, where ceiling speakers keep Zoom room audio clear without a speaker bar taking up table space.
A training room at a centre in Education City or a private school in Al Wakrah, where teachers and students need clear speech in lessons and hybrid sessions.
A ministry meeting room in Msheireb, where the black grille suits darker interiors and the ceiling layout is planned in advance.

Planning the installation

The cut-out diameter is 310 mm and the unit weighs 4.12 kg (9.1 lb). It mounts with three SpringLock clamps that grip a 33 mm (1.3-inch) range. The box includes a C-Ring supporting plate, tile support bridge rails, grilles, paint masks, a cut-out template and wire strain-relief fittings. The input cover has conduit knock-outs, and the manufacturer states it meets Chicago plenum air space requirements. It is ETL listed to UL1480A, UL2043 and CSA62368-1 and rated for air handling spaces under NFPA 70 and NFPA 90. The listed environment is indoor only. For humid areas, check the optional high humidity grille (SPA-GHH500) with the SmartRooms Qatar team. Other optional items include 48-inch tile rails (SPA-RAIL48) and new construction brackets (SPA-NC500).

Questions about Desono C-IC6LP

What is the Biamp Desono C-IC6LP-B used for?

It is a ceiling-mounted conferencing loudspeaker for rooms where speech clarity matters most, such as boardrooms, training rooms and lecture spaces in Doha. Its 140-degree conical coverage and 63 Hz to 20 kHz operating range are aimed at voice across a room. It is Zoom Certified, so it suits rooms that run Zoom, and its listed environment is indoor use.

How does the black C-IC6LP-B differ from the white C-IC6LP-W?

The two models share the same driver set, dimensions, 60 W passive rating and 140-degree coverage. The difference is the grille. This black model, item number 920-10298-10000, uses a powder-coated perforated steel grille with black (RAL9017) finish and woven fabric backing. The white C-IC6LP-W uses a white (RAL9016) grille. Choose black for darker ceilings and furnishings.

What amplifier does the C-IC6LP-B need?

The loudspeaker is rated for passive operation at 60 W continuous into 8 ohms at 22 V. The recommended amplifier output is 60 W to 120 W into 8 ohms, from 22 V to 31 V. It also needs a 65 Hz, 18 dB per octave high-pass filter and a DSP preset for ALC or Tesira, so agree the DSP setup with your audio contractor before ordering.

Will it fit a shallow ceiling in a new office tower in Lusail?

The body is 101 mm (3.96 inches) deep, the cutout diameter is 310 mm (12.20 inches) and the bezel measures 341 mm. The three SpringLock clamps grip ceilings with a 33 mm (1.3-inch) range. Measure the void after ducts and cable trays are installed, not before. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to confirm the fit before you order.

Can it work with Tesira and Zoom systems?

Yes, for both. The loudspeaker is Zoom Certified. It is also designed to integrate with the Tesira AMP-450BP, a four-channel backpack PoE+ amplifier that is sold separately. That integration reduces wiring and installation time. Tesira use requires the DSP preset for ALC or Tesira listed in the requirements, so confirm the configuration with your integrator.

Is it suitable for a boardroom with a ceiling return-air plenum?

The input cover includes conduit knock-outs, and the manufacturer states the unit meets Chicago plenum air space requirements. It is also rated suitable for air handling spaces under NFPA 70 and NFPA 90. Your mechanical contractor should still confirm the plenum arrangement and the cable routing for your specific boardroom before installation.

Can I install it in a hot, unconditioned or semi-outdoor space in Qatar?

No. The listed operating environment is indoor only, and the source data does not give an operating temperature range. Do not fit it in outdoor, semi-outdoor or unconditioned spaces where summer heat above 45 C or dust is likely. For humid indoor areas, ask the SmartRooms Qatar team about the optional high humidity grille, SPA-GHH500.

How many loudspeakers does a 60-seat lecture room need?

The data gives coverage angle and operating range, but not a seat-count or area figure, so there is no reliable number to quote from specifications alone. Room length, ceiling height, seating layout and amplifier design all affect the count. A site survey from SmartRooms Qatar is the best way to plan the layout for a lecture room of that size.

What comes in the box with the C-IC6LP-B?

The included accessories are a C-Ring supporting plate, tile support bridge rails, grilles, paint masks, a cut-out template and wire strain-relief fittings. Paint masks are useful if you plan to match the ABS face to a ceiling finish, since the face is paintable black. Optional extras, sold separately, are SPA-NC500, SPA-GHH500, SPA-GRB510 and SPA-RAIL48.

What optional accessories can I add to this model?

Four optional accessories are listed: new construction brackets (SPA-NC500) for new builds, high humidity grilles (SPA-GHH500), black grilles (SPA-GRB510) and 48-inch tile rails (SPA-RAIL48). Tile rails help when the ceiling uses a suspended tile grid, and the brackets suit ceilings still under construction. Include them in your quotation so the order matches the ceiling type.

Does the product come with a warranty?

Yes. The manufacturer provides a 5-year warranty on this loudspeaker. Products supplied by SmartRooms Qatar are covered by the manufacturer warranty. If you are specifying units for a school or ministry, ask for the warranty terms in writing with your quotation so the procurement file is complete.

We are buying several units for a school in Al Wakrah. How do we order?

Send the number of rooms, ceiling types and grille colours, and we will quote the full set. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs), payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order, and delivers to all 8 municipalities of Qatar. Confirm the quantity in the quotation, since the amplifier and DSP setup must be planned for every room.

Can SmartRooms Qatar supply this loudspeaker for a government tender in Doha?

SmartRooms Qatar supplies government tenders, including those on Monaqasat. For this model, provide the item numbers 920-10298-10000 for black or 920-10298-20000 for white in your tender documents, along with the amplifier and DSP plan. Request a quote and we will provide the quotation, offer a free site survey, and arrange professional installation.
