An all-in-one audio bar for hybrid meetings

The Biamp Parlé ABC 2500 places microphones, loudspeakers and audio processing in a single enclosure that measures 940 mm wide, 100 mm high and 64 mm deep. Rather than mounting ceiling microphones and separate speakers, a facilities team can set one unit at the front of the room and connect it to the meeting platform. Biamp certifies the bar for Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom and Barco ClickShare Conference, so it suits rooms that already run one of those systems.

Microphones and noise handling in practice

The microphone array uses 27 digital elements with active beamforming. Its pickup range is more than 7 m (23 ft) at a 25 dBA noise floor, which covers a standard conference table where people sit at different distances from the unit. Beamtracking follows talkers as they move and mixes voices across the room. Acoustic echo cancellation is included, and the sampling rate is 48 kHz. Mute status is shown by green, red or off LEDs.

An AI noise filter reduces disruptive sounds such as air-conditioning noise and keyboard typing. In Qatar, where air conditioning runs for much of the year, that filter is useful in offices with ducted systems. Test the room with the system running before accepting the installation as complete.

Speakers and automatic room tuning

The bar has two 60 mm full-range drivers rated at 90 dB continuous and 96 dB peak at 1 m, with a nominal beamwidth of 180 degrees by 180 degrees. Biamp Launch runs an acoustic analysis of the room and applies automatic tuning, so the room can be brought into service without manual programming. An installer still checks the platform connection and the far-end audio before handover.

The external power supply accepts 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, which includes Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains. Continuous rated power is 20 W, and the unit also lists a USB-C power source rated at 60 W. Connectivity includes a USB 3.0 Type C interface and a 3.5 mm mono balanced assistive listening feed. Compliance markings are FCC Part 15B, CE, UL and C-UL, and RoHS.

Operating temperature is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, humidity 0 to 90 percent non-condensing, and altitude up to 3,000 m. Qatar summer temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius, so install the bar inside air-conditioned rooms rather than a shaded outdoor area or an unconditioned lobby.
