Overview

The Barco TransForm LVC-400 is a standalone video wall controller running Barco's CMS 3.1 software. It captures networked sources and local DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA and analog inputs, then arranges them as a mosaic on a video wall with drag-and-drop layout. It runs Windows 10 with dual 1 TB RAID-1 storage and redundant 750 W power. Suited to control rooms, command centres and operations floors in Qatar.

What the TransForm LVC-400 does on a video wall

The Barco TransForm LVC-400 is a standalone video wall controller built around Barco's CMS 3.1 software. It takes in sources from across your network as well as directly connected equipment, and places them on a video wall as a mosaic. Operators build the layout by dragging sources onto the wall, then recall saved inputs whenever they need them, with images kept in high resolution.

Inputs cover networked sources, local DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA connections, and analog video. The input card options include a 2-channel DVI card and a 4-channel DVI card, both supporting resolutions up to 1920x1200 at 60 Hz, plus an 8-channel analog video card.

Specifications that matter for planning

  • Output: up to 8 4K UHD displays with two graphics cards, or up to 32 HD displays using Barco loop-through.
  • Processing and memory: Intel Xeon quad-core processor at 3.5 GHz with 16, 32 or 64 GB of DDR4 RAM.
  • Storage: a RAID-1 redundant setup with two 1 TB hard drives.
  • Software: CMS 3.1 with one display licence, five sidebar licences and 36 viewer licences.
  • Power: 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz, 750 W, with a redundant power supply.
  • Housing: 4U unit for 19-inch racks, with two 1 Gbps LAN ports.

Where it fits in Qatar

A ministry operations room in Doha might use the controller to bring feeds from several departments and external sites onto one wall, while the operator chooses which sources appear during a briefing. In a university command centre in Education City, the same mosaic approach can combine networked video sources and presentation feeds on a wide display array. An operations floor at an energy company in Mesaieed or Ras Laffan can use it to monitor video from several sites at once.

Planning the installation

The operating temperature range is 0 to 40 C, and the humidity limit is 80% non-condensing at 40 C. Outdoor summer temperatures in Qatar regularly pass 45 C, so the controller should sit in an air-conditioned room with stable conditions, not in a hot cabinet or an unventilated corner. Noise is rated at no more than 50 dBA at one metre, which suits a control room but needs thought beside quiet meeting areas.

Plan rack space for a 4U unit, cable routes for the chosen input cards, and the number of wall displays so the right configuration is selected. The manufacturer lists four configurations that differ in graphics card count, DVI input cards and analog input cards. The power supply accepts 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz, which covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz supply, and the team will confirm the correct power cord with you.

Questions about TransForm LVC-400

What is the Barco TransForm LVC-400 and who is it for?
The Barco TransForm LVC-400 is a standalone video wall display controller that runs Barco's CMS 3.1 software. It suits control rooms, command centres and operations floors where staff need to arrange live and networked sources on one video wall. In Qatar, that includes government operations rooms, university command centres and energy company monitoring floors. It arranges sources as a mosaic and recalls saved inputs on demand, which is its core job.
Which video sources can it capture?
It captures networked video sources from anywhere on the network, along with local DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA inputs and analog video inputs. These sources can then be placed on the wall as a mosaic in high resolution. The inputs you get depend on the configuration you choose, because input cards differ between models. Send the SmartRooms Qatar team a list of the devices you use so we can match the card set to your equipment before quoting.
A ministry operations room in Doha wants to show six 4K panels. Is that supported?
Yes, provided the controller is fitted with two graphics cards. The manufacturer rates it for up to eight 4K UHD displays in that configuration, so six panels fall within the limit. The controller can also drive up to 32 HD displays using Barco loop-through. The final figure depends on panel resolution, wall layout and output count, so we recommend mapping each display on a drawing before ordering.
What input card options are available?
The specification lists a 2-channel DVI input card and a 4-channel DVI input card, each supporting resolutions up to 1920x1200 at 60 Hz, plus an 8-channel analog video input card. The manufacturer lists several configurations, and each one is a separate model, so confirm the card set before ordering. Mixed setups that combine digital and analog feeds are common in lecture halls and control rooms, so tell us early which sources you need.
Which operating system does it use, and can I install security software?
It runs Windows 10 as the default operating system, with Windows 7 available as an option. Because it operates in a Windows-based environment, the manufacturer states that security software can be installed alongside CMS 3.1. Before ordering, check with your IT department that any application you plan to install is compatible with the chosen operating system and with your security policy.
Can it work with the TransForm N network visualization system?
Yes. The LVC-400 can be integrated into the TransForm N network visualization system, which is capable of controlling video walls. It can also run as a display controller for Windows-based local applications at the same time. This suits organisations that already run a networked visualization system and want a local controller on the same wall. Ask the SmartRooms Qatar team which TransForm N version you use when requesting your quotation.
Can it be placed in a hot server room or an outdoor area in Qatar?
No. The rated operating temperature range is 0 to 40 C, with humidity up to 80% non-condensing at 40 C. Summer heat in Qatar regularly exceeds 45 C outside, so install the unit in an air-conditioned room with stable temperature, such as a control room or equipment room. Avoid unventilated cabinets and spots exposed to direct sunlight through windows. Our team will confirm the room conditions during the free site survey.
Will the power supply work with Qatar's mains electricity?
The power supply is rated 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz, 750 W, with a redundant design. That input range includes Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz supply, so the rated input covers the local voltage. The redundant design helps keep the wall running if one power module fails. Confirm the power cord and plug type during quotation, since Qatar sockets follow the BS 1363 (Type G) standard.
A school in Al Wakrah is fitting out a control room. How much rack space does it need?
The LVC-400 is a 4U housing designed for 19-inch racks, so allow four rack units plus space for airflow around the unit. Plan cable routes for the input cards and wall displays from the start. The system stores data on two 1 TB drives in a RAID-1 configuration, which mirrors data across both drives and protects against a single drive failure. A free site survey can confirm the best rack location.
Our office in West Bay is worried about noise. Is this unit quiet enough?
The maximum noise rating is 50 dBA measured at one metre and 22 C. Place the rack in a control room or equipment space rather than beside a boardroom or lecture theatre. Ask your facilities team to confirm the location during the site survey, particularly on shared office floors where meeting rooms sit close to equipment rooms.
Our operations floor in Mesaieed has about 30 staff. Will the licences cover them?
The specification lists CMS 3.1 with one display licence, five sidebar licences and 36 viewer licences. The 36 viewer licences cover up to 36 viewers, which is enough for a 30-person floor. If your operation needs a different number of operators or displays, tell us the figure and we will quote the licence count you require.
Can we buy it through a purchase order or a government tender?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including those published on Monaqasat, and payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Send us the configuration, the number of units and your wall layout, and we will usually issue a quotation within one working day. Products are covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
