Overview

The Dahua M80-S12 is a 5U rack-mounted video matrix host that routes up to 48 channels of 4K output and splices images across as many as 48 screens. It has 12 slots for audio and video cards, a touch screen, and control from web, desktop, mobile or network keyboard. Its 100–240 VAC input and optional dual power supply suit control rooms in ministries, energy plants and campuses in Doha.

What the Dahua M80-S12 does in a video wall system

The Dahua M80-S12 is a 5U rack-mounted video matrix platform host. It sits at the centre of a video wall, receives camera, computer and network sources, decides which image appears on which screen and sends the result to the display outputs. Its chassis has 15 slots in total, and 12 of them take audio and video cards, so the same host can be configured for input-heavy monitoring or output-heavy wall display.

Capacity, signal handling and splicing

With the right card mix, the host accepts up to 48 channels at 1080p@60 Hz or 24 channels at 4K@60 Hz. On the output side it drives up to 48 channels of 4K through HDMI, allowing one image to be spliced across as many as 48 screens. Interfaces include DP, HDMI and DVI, and H.265 encoding supports dual-stream operation and variable bit rates. Decoding covers resolutions from D1 up to 32 MP, though 32 MP, 16 MP and 12 MP decoding is limited to H.265 sources.

Control, layouts and scenes

Operators can work from the 8-inch touch screen on the unit, or from a web page, a desktop client, a mobile client or a network keyboard. Up to 128 scenes can be stored, each with its own layout across the wall. Windows can be split into 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 16, 25 or 36 sections, and custom M × N splits are available.

Power, cooling and the machine room

The standard configuration has a single power supply. Dual power supply is an optional configuration that adds redundancy, which is worth specifying where a control room cannot afford an interruption. The input range of 100–127 VAC or 100–240 VAC at 50–60 Hz covers the 240 V, 50 Hz supply used in Qatar, and maximum power consumption is 1200 W. Six smart fans adjust to temperature, with normal and conference room modes. The rated operating range of –10 °C to +50 °C and 10%–90% non-condensing humidity means the unit belongs in an air-conditioned machine room or equipment rack rather than an open lobby.

Where it fits across Qatar

  • Government operations centre: a ministry or authority control room in Msheireb or West Bay, where operators watch several sources on one wall and switch layouts for different briefings.
  • Energy and industrial sites: a monitoring room in Mesaieed or Ras Laffan, bringing process cameras and dashboards onto a multi-screen display under air conditioning.
  • Universities and large campuses: an events or security control room in Education City or Al Rayyan, combining networked cameras with presentation feeds.

Planning the installation

Allow 5U of clear space in a standard 19-inch rack. The chassis measures 354.8 mm high, 484.0 mm wide and 409.2 mm deep, with a net weight of 20 kg and a gross weight of 25 kg, so plan a careful two-person lift. Connectivity includes four 2.5 Gbps RJ-45 ports, two 10 Gbps optical ports, two RS-232 and two RS-485 ports, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and audio jacks. Card choice depends on your sources. The specifications for this platform list the VEC0205EHP-M80 (2-channel HDMI 2.0 and 2-channel DP 1.2 input), the VEC0405HH-M80 (4 HDMI 1.3 inputs) and the VDC0405EH (4 HDMI 2.0 outputs).

Before fixing the rack, SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys to confirm cable routes, power circuits and cooling. For larger projects, such as a school or ministry ordering several units, a purchase order (LPO) or a government tender can be used, with payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order.

To receive a quotation, send your number of inputs and outputs, the number of screens and the rack location. The SmartRooms Qatar team will reply with a quote for the M80-S12, usually within one working day. Request a quote today.

Questions about M80-S12

What is the Dahua M80-S12 and who is it for?
The M80-S12 is a 5U rack-mounted video matrix platform host that routes sources to video walls and controls what appears on each screen. It suits organisations that run large display systems from one room, such as government control centres, energy operators and universities. Its 12 card slots, 48-screen splicing and support for 16 video walls make it a fit for projects where a simple display player is not enough.
Could a shopping mall in Lusail run a 36-screen display from one unit?
Yes. The platform can split a single display into 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 16, 25 or 36 windows, and it supports custom M × N splits. Each output port supports up to 36 screens, and the whole unit supports up to 1728 screens. The SmartRooms Qatar team will help plan the output cards and screen layout for your mall before the quotation is finalised.
What video inputs and outputs does it support?
Supported interfaces include DP, HDMI and DVI. With the right cards, the host accepts up to 48 channels at 1080p@60 Hz or 24 channels at 4K@60 Hz, and outputs up to 48 channels of 4K through HDMI. The cards listed for this platform include 2-channel HDMI 2.0 and 2-channel DP 1.2 inputs, 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs, and 4 HDMI 2.0 outputs, so input and output counts depend on the card mix you choose.
Is the power supply suitable for Qatar's 240 V mains?
The power input is rated 100–127 VAC or 100–240 VAC at 50–60 Hz, so it covers the 240 V, 50 Hz supply used across Qatar. Maximum power consumption is 1200 W, and the power supply is listed for hot swapping. Confirm the power circuit for the rack with the SmartRooms Qatar team when you request a quote, so the supply is planned in advance of delivery and installation.
Is a dual power supply included, and why would I choose it?
No. A single power supply is standard, and dual power supply is an optional configuration that provides redundancy. It is worth specifying for control rooms where an outage would stop a live display, such as a government operations room or an energy site monitoring wall. Mention the option in your quotation request so it is included with the chassis and the rest of the system.
Could it run a ministry operations centre in Msheireb?
Yes, provided the room is indoors and air-conditioned. The platform supports up to 128 saved scenes, control from the touch screen, web and desktop clients, and multi-window layouts, which suit a briefing or monitoring room where several sources are shown together. Allow a 5U position in the rack and a clear cable route to the displays, and request a free site survey before the rack is fixed.
Would it suit an energy control room in Mesaieed or Ras Laffan?
It can suit one if the room is indoors and air-conditioned. The operating range is –10 °C to +50 °C with 10%–90% non-condensing humidity, and the six smart fans adjust to temperature. Industrial sites in Mesaieed and Ras Laffan often face high ambient heat and dust, so keep the rack away from unfiltered air paths and confirm the room's cooling with the SmartRooms Qatar team during the site survey.
Can a university events hall in Education City use it?
Yes, for a large display wall fed by networked cameras and presentation sources. The platform lists ONVIF and RTSP among its interoperability options and can access up to 10,000 network channels. Local and network signals can be grouped into custom groups and favourites, which helps staff select a presentation feed quickly during a conference. Confirm the number of screens and inputs first.
Can it drive a video wall in a hotel lobby in West Bay?
It can, but a lobby with glass frontage and a busy entrance will add heat and activity to the space. The better approach is to place the host in a ventilated back-of-house communications room within its operating range, and run only the display cabling to the lobby. A site survey from SmartRooms Qatar will confirm cable routes and the cooling available at the rack position.
Which cards do I need for my inputs and outputs?
The platform has 12 slots for audio and video cards, and the specifications list three card types for this platform: the VEC0205EHP-M80 with 2 HDMI 2.0 and 2 DP 1.2 inputs, the VEC0405HH-M80 with 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs, and the VDC0405EH with 4 HDMI 2.0 outputs for LCD or LED walls. Cards can be placed in any slot without restriction. Send your source list and screen count so the team can recommend a card mix.
How much rack space and weight should I plan for?
The M80-S12 is a 5U unit measuring 354.8 mm high, 484.0 mm wide and 409.2 mm deep. Its net weight is 20 kg and its gross weight, with packaging, is 25 kg. Allow rack depth for the rear cabling and check that the rack can carry the weight. A free SmartRooms Qatar site survey can confirm the rack type and cable routes before installation.
How do we request a quote for several units for a school or ministry?
Send the number of units, the screen count for each system, the card types you need and the delivery location in Qatar. SmartRooms Qatar usually replies with a quotation within one working day. Schools and government bodies can raise a purchase order (LPO), and government tenders, including those on Monaqasat, are supported. Payment is by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order.
