Overview

The Hikvision DS-6904UDI(C) is a 4K video wall decoder that takes HDMI feeds from computers, conference terminals and IP cameras and shows them across a multi-screen wall. It has four HDMI 1.4 outputs, each capable of 4K at 30 Hz, and provides 64 decoding channels with streams up to 32 MP. Control rooms, operations centres and boardrooms in Doha and Lusail can save up to 64 wall layouts. Request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar.

What the DS-6904UDI(C) does on a video wall

The DS-6904UDI(C) takes live signals from computers, video conference terminals, network cameras and recorders, then places them on the screens of a multi-panel wall. Instead of wiring each source to its own display, the layout is managed from one unit, so operators can arrange, resize and move feeds from a single control point.

Inputs, outputs and decoding capacity

The unit has two HDMI 1.4 inputs. They accept either two 1080p sources at 50 or 60 Hz, or one 4K source at 30 Hz, and the 4K input works only on the odd-numbered port, so cable routing needs planning before installation. The four HDMI 1.4 outputs each support 4K at 3840 x 2160 and 30 Hz. The manufacturer states that frame synchronization keeps every output aligned, which matters when one picture spreads across several panels.

Decoding capacity is rated at 64 video channels, covering 32 channels of 2 MP video or 64 channels of 720p at the same time. The unit decodes streams up to 32 MP and supports H.264, H.265, Smart264, Smart265 and MJPEG formats, so it can work with a mixed fleet of cameras and recorders.

Scene control, camera sources and operation

Each screen supports four 1080p signal windows or two 4K windows, and every window can be divided into 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 16, 25 or 36 sub-windows. Up to 64 custom wall layouts can be saved as scenes. Up to 100 view groups can switch automatically on the HCP client, with camera locations, scenes and timing set for each group.

The decoder connects to network cameras, NVRs, DVRs, XVRs and ONVIF devices, and shows live views over RTP or RTSP. It works with IPv4 and IPv6 sources at the same time. PTZ control covers eight directions, auto-scanning, presets and focus, and can be operated from a network or serial keyboard. Configuration is done through the PC client or a Chrome 45 or later browser.

Where it fits in Qatar

  • Security control room in West Bay: entrance, lobby and car park cameras on one wall, with views rotating by shift.
  • Hospital command room in Al Sadd: a central wall showing monitoring feeds and a conference link, with several feeds on each screen.
  • Media or lecture room in Education City: lecture recordings and conference feeds shown across a wide wall for staff and students.

Qatar summers regularly pass 45 °C. The rated operating range of -10 °C to 55 °C and humidity up to 90% RH give a margin, but the cabinet or room still needs good ventilation.

Planning the installation

The unit measures 440 mm wide, 44.5 mm high and 320.8 mm deep, and weighs up to 5.2 kg. The box includes a mounting bracket, power cord, grounding cable and four pads. It accepts 100 to 240 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, which covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains, and draws under 50 W. Before ordering, confirm the number of panels, the source for each HDMI input and the cable runs. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to check these details first.

Questions about DS-6904UDI(C)

Which control rooms in Qatar would use the DS-6904UDI(C)?
It suits security and operations rooms that must watch several sources at once. For example, a control room in West Bay can show entrance, lobby and car park cameras on one wall, with each screen split into windows. Operators recall saved layouts instead of rewiring sources, which keeps shift handovers quick and the wall consistent.
Can a hospital command room in Al Sadd show many camera feeds at once?
Yes, within the device limits. It provides 64 video decoding channels, covering 32 channels of 2 MP video or 64 channels of 720p at the same time. Each screen can show four 1080p windows or two 4K windows. Confirm the number of cameras and their resolutions with the SmartRooms Qatar team before requesting a quote.
How does the 4K input work?
The unit has two HDMI 1.4 inputs. They accept two 1080p sources at 50 or 60 Hz, or one 4K source at 30 Hz. The 4K input is available only on the odd-numbered port, so plan which source uses that port before installing cables. This avoids rework on site.
What output resolutions do the four HDMI ports support?
Each of the four HDMI 1.4 outputs supports 4K at 3840 x 2160 and 30 Hz, plus 1920 x 1200 and 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz. The manufacturer states that frame synchronization keeps all outputs aligned, so one image spread across several panels appears continuous. Check your panel resolution and refresh rate against these values before ordering.
Which video formats and stream sizes can it decode?
The decoder handles H.264, H.265, Smart264, Smart265 and MJPEG, and HIK264 at lower resolution. Streams up to 32 MP can be decoded. Real-time capacity includes 2 channels at 32 MP, 4 channels at 12 MP, 8 channels at 8 MP or 16 channels at 4 MP, with audio formats such as AAC, MP3, G.711 and PCM.
Does it connect to IP cameras, NVRs and existing recorders?
Yes. It accepts network cameras, NVRs, DVRs, XVRs and mainstream third-party devices, and can access ONVIF devices. Live views come over RTP or RTSP, and IPv4 and IPv6 sources can run together. It can also decode recorded files, so a clip from an NVR can be replayed on the wall for review.
How are scenes and automatic rotations set up during a shift?
You can save up to 64 scenes with custom wall layouts. The HCP client can auto-switch up to 100 view groups, and for each group you set camera locations, scenes and timing. A security room in Msheireb could show entrances for one hour and car parks for the next without manual changes by the operator.
Can operators control PTZ cameras from the decoder?
Yes. PTZ control of network sources covers eight directions, auto-scanning, aperture, focal length, focusing and preset calls. It works from a network keyboard or a serial keyboard, which can also change windows, run view groups, switch scenes and control playback. Configuration is done from the PC client or a web browser using Chrome 45 or later.
Is the unit suitable for Qatar's heat and mains power?
The working range is -10 °C to 55 °C with humidity from 0% to 90% RH. The 55 °C upper limit is above the 45 °C-plus summer temperatures seen in Qatar, but the cabinet still needs good ventilation. It accepts 100 to 240 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, which covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains, and draws under 50 W.
What is in the box and what should I plan before mounting?
The box contains one decoder, a regulatory and safety manual, a mounting bracket, a power cord, four pads and a grounding cable. The unit measures 440 mm x 44.5 mm x 320.8 mm and weighs up to 5.2 kg. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to confirm the location, cable routes and ventilation before installation.
Would a school or university in Education City or Al Wakrah need this decoder?
It may suit a media room in Education City that displays lecture recordings and conference feeds across a wide wall. A school in Al Wakrah with a central monitoring room could use the same approach. When requesting a quote, state the number of screens, the video sources and whether recorded files will play back, since the unit supports recorded video decoding.
Is it a good fit for a bank boardroom in West Bay?
Yes, where the wall combines conference video with dashboards or camera views. A boardroom might show a conference link with overseas teams beside other screens, and the decoder can split and reposition windows for each saved scene. Confirm the panel count and cable plan with SmartRooms Qatar before ordering, so the layout is checked on site first.
