Overview

The Hikvision DS-C80N-01HI/4K is a distributed input node that takes one 4K60 HDMI 2.0 source and sends it across the network to a video wall. It has an HDMI loop-out, dual-channel 24-bit audio, a 1000 Mbps SFP and Ethernet pair with hot backup, and PoE 802.3at support. Each node works independently, with no central server. It suits command rooms, control centres and campus AV teams in Qatar building flexible walls.

What this input node does in a distributed wall

The DS-C80N-01HI/4K is an input node in Hikvision's distributed video wall system. It accepts one 4K60 HDMI 2.0 source, such as a presentation PC, media player or camera feed, and sends the picture over the network to output nodes that drive the screens. Because the signal travels as network traffic, the source can sit in a different room, floor or building from the wall.

Each node operates independently and the system has no central server. If one node fails, the rest of the wall keeps running, which suits control rooms and command centres where a single fault should not blank the whole display.

Specifications that shape the design

  • Video: one HDMI 2.0 input up to 4K at 60 fps, a loop-out HDMI 2.0 port for passing the signal on, and YUV 4:4:4 sampling.
  • Audio: 3.5 mm audio input and output, dual channel, 24-bit at 48 kHz.
  • Network: one 1000 Mbps SFP port and one 1000 Mbps Ethernet port, with hot backup between them.
  • Power: 802.3at PoE, or an external supply for a dual power arrangement. Consumption is 30 W or less.
  • Control: RS-232, RS-485, configurable IO/IR inputs and outputs, a relay and a 3.3 V IR power terminal.
  • Size: half-width, so two nodes fill one rack width, with a 128 × 64 OLED status screen on each unit.

Where it fits in Qatar

A government operations room in Doha might route feeds from several floors to a wall of screens. Each source gets its own input node in a comms cabinet, and output nodes drive the displays in the room. Because the node accepts network signals as well as HDMI, cameras and NVRs already on the building network can join the wall, with ONVIF support for device access.

In Education City, a university might link a lecture hall with a studio or a partner campus. The 1000 Mbps links and compression that adapts to network quality help keep images clear when bandwidth varies between buildings. An industrial site in Mesaieed or Ras Laffan could place the nodes in a control room while the sources stay in a plant building, using the RS-485 and relay interfaces to connect local equipment.

What to plan before ordering

Check the cabinet temperature first. The rated working range is 0 °C to 50 °C with 0% to 95% humidity. Summer temperatures in Qatar exceed 45 °C, so nodes should sit in an air-conditioned comms room or a ventilated cabinet, not a hot corner of a shared space. Hot backup and separate power help, but cooling is the first thing to confirm.

Count the sources and screens before quoting. Each node handles one HDMI input, and the rack needs room for two nodes per rack width. The power cord, mounting bracket and connecting bracket come in the box. Plan switch ports and the PoE budget if you use 802.3at, or a 110 to 240 VAC supply where PoE is not used. Qatar mains is 240 V, which falls within that range. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys, and we recommend one before a multi-node installation to confirm cabling and cabinet space.

To request a quote for the DS-C80N-01HI/4K, tell us how many sources and screens you need and where the cabinets will sit. Quotations are usually issued within one working day, and we can work from a purchase order, an LPO or a government tender.

Questions about DS-C80N-01HI/4K

What is the DS-C80N-01HI/4K used for?
It is an input node for distributed video wall systems. It captures one HDMI source of up to 4K at 60 fps and sends the signal over the network to output nodes driving display screens. It suits command rooms, control centres and multi-site presentation setups where the source and the wall sit in different locations. Input nodes can be added as the number of sources grows.
Does it need a central server or controller?
No. The system is decentralised and does not need a central server. Each node works independently, so a failure in one node does not stop the rest of the wall. The node can also work alongside centralised video wall controllers, multi-functional video centres and decoders, so an existing command centre system can be extended rather than replaced. Check your architecture with the SmartRooms Qatar team before requesting a quote.
What input resolutions does it accept?
The HDMI 2.0 input accepts up to 4K at 60 Hz, including 3840 × 2160 and 4096 × 2160 at 30 or 60 Hz, plus common computer and HD resolutions from 1024 × 768 up to 1920 × 1200. It also accepts custom resolutions in the range of 1920 × 1080 to 4092 × 2160. Video is handled with YUV 4:4:4 sampling, which keeps colour detail on text-heavy dashboards and spreadsheets. Audio is sampled at 24-bit and 48 kHz.
Can it take network cameras and NVR feeds?
Yes. The node supports access to network signal sources, including network cameras and NVRs, and can access devices using the ONVIF protocol. For a Doha security control room that already runs IP cameras, this means live feeds can be brought onto the video wall. It supports live view of up to six channels at the same time. Confirm camera models and stream settings during the site survey.
How is it powered and what does it draw?
It can be powered over Ethernet using 802.3at PoE, or through its external power supply, which accepts 110 to 240 VAC at 0.7 A. Power consumption is 30 W or less. Qatar's 240 V mains falls within this range. Using an external supply alongside PoE gives a dual power arrangement, which supports continuity if one supply is lost. Include the 30 W figure in your PoE budget and UPS planning.
Can it operate in a hot equipment room in Doha?
The working temperature is 0 °C to 50 °C, with humidity from 0% to 95%. Summer temperatures in Doha exceed 45 °C, so the node should be installed in an air-conditioned comms room or a cabinet with good airflow rather than an unventilated space. Keep a margin below the 50 °C limit, especially in closed racks where heat from other equipment builds up. Ask our team to review the cabinet before ordering.
How many nodes fit in a standard rack?
Each node is half-width, so two nodes together equal the width of one rack. The unit measures 210 × 42 × 180 mm and weighs 1.27 kg. It can be installed in a rack using the supplied mounting bracket, placed on a flat surface, or mounted magnetically as an option. Count the rack space needed for switches and cabling as well, and leave room for airflow around the nodes.
What happens if a network link fails?
Each node has one 1000 Mbps SFP optical port and one 1000 Mbps Ethernet port, and the two support hot backup between them. If one link fails, the node can continue over the other, which is useful for control rooms that cannot accept an outage. The node shows its status on a built-in OLED screen, and the maintenance interface reports the status of the main control node and sub-nodes. For the best protection, use separate switch paths for each link.
What audio connections does it have?
The node has one 3.5 mm audio input and one 3.5 mm audio output, both dual channel at 24-bit and 48 kHz. The HDMI port can output video and audio together, or audio can be sent through the 3.5 mm port alone. Audio talk is supported by using the audio input and output ports together. This is suitable for a basic two-way audio link to a remote site, such as a lecture hall in Education City connected to a studio.
Can it integrate with lighting, blinds or other room equipment?
The node provides RS-232 and RS-485 serial interfaces, configurable IO and IR inputs and outputs, a relay and a 3.3 V IR power terminal. The wider system supports central control of lighting, curtains and infrared devices, as well as LCD and LED screens, and PTZ control of conference and monitoring cameras. Confirm which equipment needs integration and which control protocols it uses before ordering.
How many nodes should a Doha operations room order?
Start by counting sources, because each node takes one HDMI input, then count the output nodes needed for your screens. A ministry operations room with six feeds, for example, would need six input nodes plus output nodes for the displays. Add spares if the room is critical. A free site survey confirms cabinet space, network paths and power before quotation, and quotations are usually issued within one working day.
Can we buy it on an LPO or through a government tender?
Yes. SmartRooms Qatar supplies this node against purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Because the node is sold by quotation, send the number of nodes, the inputs required and the rack location, and the quotation will be prepared on that basis. The manufacturer's warranty applies to the product.
