What the 55VM5B-A is and where it stands

The LG 55VM5B-A is a 55-inch LCD panel designed for building video walls from several units. Each panel offers a 1,920 x 1,080 full HD resolution, a 500 nits brightness rating and a 0.9mm bezel on all four edges. LG has discontinued this model. Organisations that already run these panels, and buyers comparing models, need a current equivalent or a compatible replacement that matches their bezel, brightness and connectivity requirements.

Bezel design and picture consistency across the wall

The bezel is the main reason to choose this panel. With a 0.9mm border on each side, the gap between two neighbouring screens measures 1.8mm bezel-to-bezel, so the wall reads as one image rather than a grid of separate displays. The image gap reduction feature adjusts content that falls on the bezel edges, so text and lines crossing a join look more natural.

Video Wall Image Creation technology compensates for colour and brightness differences between panels, helping the wall keep a consistent white balance. LG states high brightness uniformity from its LED backlight, which matters on a wall where one darker panel would stand out. The manufacturer also states clear picture quality when panels are installed in stacks of more than four, which suits large tiled installations.

Built-in playback, control and daisy chaining

A built-in quad-core SoC plays video content on each display, so a basic wall does not need a separate media player. Each panel plays its own tile in step with the others, which keeps a split video frame aligned. The panel runs webOS 2.0 and works with SuperSign-w lite and SuperSign-c for content management.

Inputs include HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI-D, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and RGB, with DisplayPort and audio output. The panel is OPS-type compatible, and external media players MP500 and MP700 can be attached. A LAN daisy chain lets you send control commands to every screen and update firmware across the array, while RS232C, RJ45 and an IR receiver support external control. A classified in/out port helps prevent cabling errors when wiring a daisy chain.

Qatar scenarios for a 55-inch narrow-bezel wall

• Control rooms: operators in Mesaieed or the Industrial Area monitor several systems at once, and the narrow bezel keeps the display visually unbroken.
• Corporate lobbies: a grid of panels in West Bay or Lusail can show branding, visitor information and building news, managed centrally.
• Education: a media lab or collaborative learning hub in Education City can run shared content across several screens.

Planning power, heat and mounting

Each unit weighs 18.6kg and measures 1,211.4 x 682.2 x 86.5mm. It uses a 600 x 400mm VESA mount interface, and LG's optional WM-L640V landscape and WM-P640V portrait wall mounts are available. Check the wall structure before installation, because a multi-panel array concentrates considerable weight. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys and professional installation for video walls.

Typical power consumption is 150 W, falling to 80 W in Smart Energy Saving mode. The power supply accepts 100-240V at 50/60Hz, which covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains, but confirm the plug type for your sockets with our team, as the data does not specify it. The stated operating range is 0°C to 40°C with 10% to 80% humidity. Summer temperatures in Qatar rise above 45°C, so these panels belong in air-conditioned rooms with cooling sized for the whole array, not in open atriums or behind sun-exposed glass.

The basic kit includes a remote controller, power, DP and LAN cables, an IR receiver, an RS-232C cable, a guide bracket and screws. Listed certifications include UL, cUL, CB, TUV, KC, FCC Class A, CE, KCC and Energy Star 6.0. Products are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. To request a quote, send SmartRooms Qatar the number of panels, the wall layout and the mounting type. Quotations usually follow within one working day, and we accept LPOs and government tenders.
