A discontinued 55-inch narrow-bezel panel for tiled video walls

The LG 55VM5B is a 55-inch LCD panel designed to be joined with other panels into one video wall. The manufacturer has discontinued this model, so this page is written for organisations that already run it, buyers comparing it with newer walls, and anyone looking for a current replacement. Each panel offers 1,920 x 1,080 full HD resolution and 500cd/m² brightness, with a 0.9mm even bezel on all four sides.

The specifications that matter in a tiled wall

In a video wall, the bezel and the physical size of each panel decide how the finished grid looks and how much space it needs. The key figures from the manufacturer data are:

Bezel: 0.9mm on every edge, with 1.8mm where two panels meet
Resolution and brightness: 1,920 x 1,080 FHD at 500cd/m²
Size and weight: 1,211.4 x 682.2 x 86.5mm, 18.6kg per panel
Mounting: 600 x 400mm VESA interface
Power: 100-240V at 50/60Hz, typical consumption 150W, energy-saving figure 80W
Operating range: 0°C to 40°C, 10% to 80% humidity

Inputs, media players and control

The panel lists HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI-D, RGB and USB 2.0 and 3.0 inputs, plus audio, with DisplayPort and audio outputs. OPS is listed as an input, the panel is OPS compatible, and the external media players MP500 and MP700 can be attached. For control, the wall supports RS232C, RJ45 and an IR receiver, and it is listed as compatible with SuperSign-w lite and SuperSign-c software.

Where it fits in Qatar

A 55-inch panel suits rooms where viewers stand or sit within a few metres of the wall. Three typical situations are:

An operations room at a logistics or energy firm in the Industrial Area, showing live dashboards and camera feeds across a 2 x 2 or 3 x 3 grid.
A university atrium in Education City or a corporate lobby in West Bay, where the wall carries wayfinding, event schedules and welcome messages. Keep the panels out of direct sunlight coming through glass.
A government meeting room in Msheireb, where a small wall shows presentations and dashboards during briefings.

What to plan before installation

Each panel weighs 18.6kg, so a multi-panel array needs a wall that can carry the load, a clear mounting plan and planned cable routes. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey, which is worth booking before you order mounts. Optional wall mounts are listed for landscape (WM-L640V) and portrait (WM-P640V) use, and an HDBaseT option (EB-B100) is also listed. The operating range is 0°C to 40°C, so rooms in Qatar, where summer temperatures often exceed 45°C, must be air-conditioned. Safety and EMC approvals include UL, cUL, CB, TUV, KC, FCC Class A, CE and KCC, and the model is listed as Energy Star 6.0.

Quotations are usually issued within one working day. Government ministries, schools and universities can order by purchase order (LPO) or through government tenders, including Monaqasat. SmartRooms Qatar delivers to all eight municipalities of Qatar and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Products are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. To request a quote for this model or for a current equivalent, send us your wall size, the number of panels and the mounting location.

Questions about 55VM5B

Is the LG 55VM5B still sold as a new model?

No, the manufacturer has discontinued the LG 55VM5B, so it may not be available as a new unit in this exact configuration. Request a quote and SmartRooms Qatar will suggest a current equivalent or compatible replacement that matches your required resolution, bezel width and mounting. Organisations that already own this model can use the same request to plan expansions or compare options against newer walls.

What is the LG 55VM5B designed for?

It is a 55-inch LCD panel built to be tiled with other panels into a video wall. Each unit has 1,920 x 1,080 FHD resolution, 500cd/m² brightness and a 0.9mm even bezel on all four sides, which keeps the seams between screens narrow. It suits control rooms, operations centres, lobby walls and meeting spaces where people view the wall from a few metres away.

How visible is the gap between panels in a video wall?

The manufacturer data lists 1.8mm where two panels sit side by side, formed by two 0.9mm bezels. That seam repeats at every joint, so a 3 x 3 wall has two seams across each row and column. Fine text and spreadsheets show the seams clearly, while large graphics and live video look more continuous. Review sample layouts with the SmartRooms Qatar team before settling on the grid.

Can this panel run in a hot room or store area without air conditioning?

No. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C, with humidity between 10% and 80%. Summer temperatures in Qatar often exceed 45°C, so a wall in an unconditioned store room or a covered outdoor area needs cooling that keeps the room inside that range. Confirm the room conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.

What power does the LG 55VM5B need in Qatar?

The power supply is rated 100-240V at 50/60Hz, which covers Qatar's 240V, 50Hz mains. Typical consumption is 150W, and the energy-saving figure is 80W. A power cable is included in the basic accessories. For a multi-panel wall, have a licensed electrician confirm that each circuit and socket can carry the total load, and plan cable routes before the mounts are fixed.

What video sources and media players can I connect?

The panel lists HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI-D, RGB and USB 2.0 and 3.0 inputs, plus audio, with DisplayPort and audio outputs. OPS is listed as an input and the panel is OPS compatible, and the optional OPS kit KT-OPSA is listed. External media players MP500 and MP700 can also be attached. Control options are RS232C, RJ45 and an IR receiver, which helps when linking the wall to room control systems.

Which content software is supported?

The manufacturer data lists compatibility with SuperSign-w lite and SuperSign-c. Before ordering, confirm which package fits your content workflow, whether you will run one wall or a network of screens, and whether your current player and software setup is supported. SmartRooms Qatar can check these points against your requirements when preparing the quotation.

How heavy is each panel and how should it be mounted?

Each panel weighs 18.6kg and measures 1,211.4 x 682.2 x 86.5mm, with a 600 x 400mm VESA mounting interface. Optional wall mounts are listed for landscape (WM-L640V) and portrait (WM-P640V) orientation. A free site survey helps confirm wall construction, load capacity, mounting height and cable routes before a multi-panel array is fixed in a Doha office or school hall.

Is this model suitable for a control room in the Industrial Area?

Yes, provided the room is air-conditioned and staff view the wall from a moderate distance. A typical case is a logistics or energy operations room in the Industrial Area showing live dashboards and camera feeds across a 2 x 2 or 3 x 3 grid. The 500cd/m² brightness suits indoor rooms with controlled lighting, and the room must stay within the 0°C to 40°C operating range.

Can it be used in a university or corporate lobby in Education City or West Bay?

A lobby can work well for wayfinding, event schedules and welcome messages. Place the wall away from direct sunlight through glass, since strong daylight can reduce how clearly the content reads. Ask SmartRooms Qatar to review the lighting and climate of the space before you choose this model or a replacement, so the wall fits the room from the start.

How should a school in Al Rayyan order several units?

Schools and government bodies can order by purchase order (LPO) or through a government tender, including Monaqasat. Include the panel count, grid layout and mounting location in your request, so the quotation covers matching panels, mounts and any optional OPS or HDBaseT items. SmartRooms Qatar delivers to all eight municipalities, including Al Rayyan, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order.
