Overview

The Sharp VX Series is a hardware-based video wall processor built on a modular chassis, available in 4U, 6.5U and 11U sizes. It runs multi-window layouts, picture-in-picture, cross-screen and cropping, and accepts a wide mix of inputs including DVI, HDMI, VGA, SDI and IP. Built-in app control, multi-user access with separate user rights and an optional redundant power supply suit control rooms, government command centres and campus AV installations across Qatar.

What the VX Series processor does

The VX Series is a video wall processing workstation built on a hardware-based architecture. A crosspoint switch and a high-speed FPGA design handle every input signal in real time, which the datasheet links to avoiding image delay and frame loss. Operators can arrange several sources in multi-window layouts, place one picture inside another, run a single image across several screens, or crop a region from a source and show only that area.

Chassis sizes and input capacity

The processor is built on a modular chassis in three heights, and each one takes I/O cards in its slots so the configuration can grow with the wall:

  • 4U: 8 input slots, expandable to 32, and 5 output slots, expandable to 18
  • 6.5U: 9 input slots and 9 output slots, both expandable to 36
  • 11U: 23 input slots, expandable to 92, and 18 output slots, expandable to 72

Physical sizes are 41 x 31 x 17.8 cm for the 4U unit, 41 x 31 x 28.9 cm for the 6.5U and 41 x 31 x 48.9 cm for the 11U. Weights are 15 kg, 18 kg and 35 kg respectively.

Inputs, outputs and control

Input cards cover DVI-I, HDMI, VGA, composite, component, SDI with loop-out, IP over RJ45, and a 4K HDMI/DP card that supports up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz. Output cards are available for LCD walls (HDMI, DVI and VGA) and LED walls (HDMI and DVI), plus an RJ45 preview card.

Control runs over RS232 and LAN. Built-in app control lets staff manage the wall from one interface, and multi-user access with different user rights means administrators can give operators, supervisors and technicians their own permissions. An optional function card adds scrolling text and HD background images, and a redundant power supply can be specified as an option for critical rooms.

Where it fits in Qatar

  • A ministry command and control room in Doha showing live feeds, dashboards and briefing content on one wall, with operators switching layouts from a single console.
  • An operations centre in Education City where a university combines lecture capture, campus monitoring and research visualisation sources on one video wall.
  • An industrial monitoring room in Mesaieed or Ras Laffan bringing plant camera feeds and process screens into one multi-window display.

Planning before you order

Start with an input list. Count each source type (DVI, HDMI, VGA, SDI, IP or 4K) and match it to a card slot, because the chassis must be sized for the inputs you need today and those you expect later. Match the outputs to your displays, LCD or LED, since the card type must fit the panel. Plan for load and space too: the 11U unit weighs 35 kg, so the rack, floor and cable routes need checking before delivery.

The unit accepts a power input of 100 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, a range that includes Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains. Confirm the power cord and PDU arrangement with your electrical contractor. For environment, the datasheet lists an operating range of -10°C to 50°C and 10% to 90% humidity for the 6.5U chassis, with storage from -20°C to 75°C. Qatar summers push room temperatures high, so install in a ventilated, air-conditioned room and confirm conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team before mounting the rack.

SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to check rack space, cabling and ventilation before installation. Send your input list, wall layout and rack location and request a quote; quotations are usually issued within one working day.

Questions about VX Series Video Wall Processor

What is the Sharp VX Series video wall processor used for?
It is a hardware-based processor that feeds sources to a video wall, letting operators combine several inputs into multi-window, picture-in-picture and cross-screen layouts. It suits control rooms, command centres and information publishing setups. In Qatar it is typically specified for ministry command rooms, university operations centres and industrial monitoring rooms where several live feeds must share one wall.
Which chassis size should I choose?
The 4U chassis has 8 input slots expandable to 32 and 5 output slots expandable to 18. The 6.5U expands both input and output to 36 slots, and the 11U takes up to 92 inputs and 72 outputs. Choose by counting the sources and display outputs you need now, then add headroom for expansion. A small briefing room wall usually fits the 4U, while a large control room with many feeds points to the 11U.
Which input types does it accept?
Input cards cover DVI-I, HDMI, VGA, composite CVBS, component YPbPr, SDI with loop-out, IP over RJ45, and a 4K HDMI/DP card supporting up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz. Many DVI, HDMI and VGA input cards are specified at 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz. List every source type in your room before ordering so each one has a matching card slot.
Can it drive both LCD and LED video walls?
Yes, with the right output card. The range includes HDMI, DVI and VGA LCD output cards, HDMI and DVI LED output cards, and an RJ45 preview card. Confirm which panel technology your wall uses, because the output card must match the display. Share your panel model when you request a quote so the card mix can be checked against your wall.
How is the processor controlled, and can several people use it?
Control is possible over RS232 and LAN, and the VX Series includes built-in app control for managing the wall. Multi-user access with different user rights lets administrators give operators, supervisors and technicians separate permissions. This suits a Doha ministry room where several staff share one wall but should not all be able to change system settings.
Does it work with Qatar's 240 V mains supply?
The source data lists a power input of 100 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, and that range includes Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains. Confirm the power cord and PDU arrangement with your electrical contractor and the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation, so the rack is powered correctly from the first day.
Can it be installed in a hot room or server room in Qatar?
The datasheet for the 6.5U chassis lists an operating temperature of -10°C to 50°C and humidity of 10% to 90%, with storage from -20°C to 75°C. Qatar summers can push room temperatures high, so install the rack in an air-conditioned, ventilated room and confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before mounting.
Is a redundant power supply included?
No, a redundant power supply is an option. The VX Series supports a redundant power supply with an optional redundant unit, so it should not be assumed as standard. For a control room that must keep running through a power fault, specify the redundant option in your quotation request so it is fitted from the start.
Can it show scrolling text or a background image?
Yes, with an optional function card. The card adds scrolling text and HD background image support, which is useful for public notices in a building lobby or a message band across a school hall wall. Specify the function card with your order so it is fitted in the chassis at installation.
How much rack space and weight should I plan for?
The 4U unit measures 41 x 31 x 17.8 cm and weighs 15 kg, the 6.5U measures 41 x 31 x 28.9 cm at 18 kg, and the 11U measures 41 x 31 x 48.9 cm at 35 kg. Check rack depth, floor loading and cable routes before delivery. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys, which helps when a heavy 11U unit must reach a rack in a building with limited access.
How can a government ministry or school buy this through an LPO or tender?
SmartRooms Qatar supplies by quotation and accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat. Send the chassis size, input list and display model, and a quotation is usually issued within one working day. Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order.
