Overview

The LG 98UH5J-H is a 98-inch indoor standard signage display from the UH5J series, now discontinued by the manufacturer. It offers a 3840 x 2160 IPS panel rated at 500 nit typical, 24/7 operation, built-in webOS 6.0 with 16GB storage, and Crestron Connected support. Organisations in Qatar that already run this model, or need a comparable large-format display for lobbies and meeting rooms, should request a quote for a current equivalent.

What the LG 98UH5J-H is

The LG 98UH5J-H is a 98-inch standard signage display from the UH5J series, designed for indoor content walls, lobbies, meeting spaces and retail floors. LG has discontinued this model. This page is written for organisations that already run one, for buyers comparing it with newer large-format panels, and for anyone who needs a replacement that fits the same role.

Panel and image facts that matter

The 98-inch IPS panel delivers 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 ratio, with a direct backlight rated at 500 nit typical. A 1,200:1 contrast ratio and 10-bit colour (1.07 billion colours) keep detailed artwork and small text sharp, while the 178 by 178 degree viewing angle lets people standing to the side of a room read the same content. The panel runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can be rotated between portrait and landscape orientation.

Connectivity, playback and control

Inputs: three HDMI, one DisplayPort and one DVI-D, plus audio, RS232C, IR and a RJ45 LAN port
Local playback: webOS 6.0 with 16 GB internal memory, local content scheduling and USB plug and play
Multi-screen layouts: picture-in-picture, four-way picture-by-picture and four video tags
Video walls: tile mode up to 15 x 15 with a 14.9 mm even bezel
Integration: Crestron Connected, RS232C control, SNMP and Wake on LAN

Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, an onboard temperature sensor and an auto brightness sensor help the display manage itself. Two 10W speakers are built in. The HDMI output allows daisy chaining from one unit to the next, which simplifies cabling in a row of screens. Software support includes SuperSign CMS and Mobile CMS for managing content across multiple displays.

Built for dust, heat and long operating hours

Qatar's summer heat and dust demand attention in any display specification. The 98UH5J-H has a conformal coating on its power board, which the manufacturer describes as protection against salt, dust, iron powder and humidity, and its design is described with IP5x dust-proof certification. The listed operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C with 10 % to 80 % humidity, so the display should sit in an air-conditioned indoor space, and the room temperature should be checked against that range before installation. Its rated 24/7 operation suits hotel lobbies and malls with long opening hours.

Where it fits in Qatar

A hotel lobby in West Bay or Msheireb showing looped welcome content and event information on a wall-facing display, with portrait mode for a column or staircase.
A shopping mall or retail concourse in Doha or Al Rayyan running promotions during opening hours, with the display managed over the LAN from a central location.
A government service hall or bank branch showing queue and service guidance in Arabic and English, using local content scheduling so messages change at set times.

Planning the installation

The head weighs 66 kg and the packed unit 99 kg, and the monitor measures 2191.8 x 1246.8 x 86.1 mm without handle and logo. The VESA mount interface is 800 x 400, so the wall bracket must match that pattern and carry the load. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to check wall structure, cable routes and power before the panel is mounted. The built-in power supply accepts 100-240 V AC at 50/60 Hz, and the manufacturer lists typical consumption of 420 W and maximum of 570 W. The box includes a remote controller with batteries, a power cord, a quick start guide, a regulation booklet and an RS232C adapter. The manufacturer lists security update support for five years from the product launch date.

Request a quote

Because this model is discontinued, the most useful next step is a quote for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement, using the specifications above as the brief. SmartRooms Qatar supplies and delivers to all eight municipalities of Qatar, arranges professional installation, and usually sends quotations within one working day. We accept purchase orders and government tenders, including Monaqasat. Request a quote and send us your room size, mounting wall and intended content.

Questions about 98UH5J-H

Is the LG 98UH5J-H still available new from SmartRooms Qatar?

LG has discontinued the 98UH5J-H, so SmartRooms Qatar cannot quote it as a current model. We can prepare a quotation for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement that matches its 98-inch size, 4K resolution and signage features. The quotation confirms the lead time, which is an estimate based on stock. If you already own this model, send us the room it is installed in so we can match the new unit to your setup.

What is the 98UH5J-H designed to do?

It is a 98-inch indoor signage display for marketing content, announcements and wayfinding in busy places such as meeting rooms, airports, retail areas and shopping malls. Its 500 nit typical brightness is rated for indoor display. It is a standard signage model rather than a touch panel, so it suits one-way information such as promotions and notices rather than interactive use.

What resolution and brightness does the panel offer?

The panel is a 98-inch IPS display with a native 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio and a direct backlight. Brightness is 500 nit typical, the contrast ratio is 1,200:1 and colour depth is 10-bit, giving 1.07 billion colours. The 60Hz refresh rate and 8ms (G to G) response time suit video and slides. The surface haze is 28%, which helps reduce reflections in bright lobbies.

Can it be mounted in portrait orientation for a hotel corridor or stairwell?

Yes. The panel supports both portrait and landscape orientation, and its screen rotation and external input rotation settings let content match the mounting. In a hotel corridor in West Bay or a tall atrium in Lusail, portrait mounting gives a vertical display suited to directional signs. Confirm the mounting position early, because the 66 kg head and the wide frame change how the wall bracket must be fitted.

Does it need a PC to play content?

No. The 98UH5J-H runs webOS 6.0 and has 16GB of internal memory, so content can be scheduled and played from the display itself. Local content scheduling, USB plug and play, play via URL and background images for booting and no-signal states are built in. A PC or media player is only needed if you want to feed live HDMI, DisplayPort or DVI-D sources. Larger networks can manage displays with SuperSign CMS.

Which connectors does it have, and can the signal pass to another screen?

The inputs are three HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, one DVI-D, audio in, RS232C, IR in, a RJ45 LAN port and one USB 2.0 Type A port. The HDMI output allows daisy chaining, so the signal can pass from one display to the next. RS232C and audio outputs are also provided. There is no RGB input and no DisplayPort output, so plan source connections around HDMI and DisplayPort.

Is it suitable for Qatar's heat and dust?

It is rated for operation from 0 °C to 40 °C with 10 % to 80 % humidity, so it should be installed in an air-conditioned indoor space. The power board has a conformal coating against dust, salt and humidity, and the design is described with IP5x dust-proof certification. Do not place it in direct sun, near an unshaded window or at an outdoor entrance, where summer temperatures above 45 °C would exceed its rated range. Confirm room conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team during the site survey.

Can it be integrated with a meeting room or AV control system?

It supports Crestron Connected for integration with professional AV control systems and network-based control. It also has an RS232C port for serial control, an IR input, a RJ45 LAN port, SNMP, Control Manager, Wake on LAN and HDMI-CEC. For a boardroom in Msheireb or a government meeting room, the controller can be specified to match the existing AV system, and the control design should be agreed before installation.

How heavy is it, and what kind of wall does it need?

The head weighs 66 kg and the packed unit 99 kg, with dimensions of 2191.8 x 1246.8 x 86.1 mm without handle and logo. The VESA interface is 800 x 400. A plasterboard partition may need reinforcing before it can carry this load, so a structural check is essential. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey before installation, covering wall structure, bracket selection and access to the room.

What power does it draw, and what do I need to supply?

The built-in power supply accepts 100-240 V AC at 50/60 Hz, and a power cord is included. The manufacturer lists typical consumption of 420 W, maximum of 570 W and 0.5 W in power-off mode. Plan a dedicated outlet with cable routing that suits the mount, and have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit before installation. The power figures are as listed in the manufacturer data.

Can our school, ministry or company buy it through an LPO or a government tender?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. A ministry or public school ordering several units can issue one LPO covering all displays, with one quotation for supply, delivery to any of Qatar's eight municipalities and installation. Products are covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

How long will security updates be provided for this model?

The manufacturer lists security update support for five years from the product launch date. Because this model is discontinued, check that date against your planned period of use before deciding whether to keep the existing unit or move to a current replacement. SmartRooms Qatar can quote a replacement with its own support terms, which we will confirm in writing on the quotation.
