What this 84-inch touch display is for

The NEC MultiSync X841UHD SST is an 84-inch touch-overlay interactive display from the MultiSync X Series, with an active screen of 1,860 x 1,046 mm and a 3840 x 2160 native resolution. NEC has discontinued this model. Touch, picture and brightness in practice

ShadowSense touch tracks up to 10 real touch points at once, with an accuracy listed below 2 mm and a response time of 6 to 8 ms. Fingers, gloves and styluses with a tip of at least 4 mm are all supported, so one person can annotate a drawing with a pen while others use gestures. The zero airgap construction reduces parallax, so marks appear under the pen tip rather than offset. Brightness is 180 cd/m² typical with a 500 cd/m² maximum, and the contrast ratio is 1400:1 typical.

Connections, computing and control

The inputs include one DisplayPort, two DVI-D and four HDMI, all with HDCP, plus a 3.5 mm analogue audio input and digital audio over HDMI or DisplayPort. Touch connects by USB 2.0 and needs no driver on the host computer for major operating systems. The integrated OPS slot takes an optional Slot-in-PC, where an Intel Core i5 or i7 with WS7P is recommended, so the computer can sit inside the display instead of on the desk. Other listed OPS options include an HDBaseT receiver, HD-SDI cards and a digital signage player. Remote management is available over LAN with SNMP and RS-232C, and the free NaViSet Administrator 2 tool is listed.
