Overview

The Promethean AP7-U75 is a 75-inch 4K ActivPanel Nickel interactive display. It offers 4K UHD resolution, a 350 cd/m2 panel, 15 continuous touch points, built-in Android 8 and one OPS slot. Its Vellum writing and ambient light sensor suit classrooms and meeting rooms. The manufacturer has discontinued this model, so SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or compatible replacement for schools and offices in Qatar.

What the AP7-U75 is and why its status matters

The Promethean AP7-U75 is a 75-inch 4K interactive display from the ActivPanel Nickel range in the ActivPanel Elements series. Promethean has discontinued this model, so it is no longer sold as new. This page serves organisations that already run one, buyers comparing it with newer panels, and anyone seeking a replacement.

Display and touch facts that matter in a room

The panel is a TFT LCD with direct LED backlighting, a 16:9 aspect ratio and a display area of 1652 x 930 mm (65 x 36.6 in). It runs at 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) at 60 Hz and shows 1.07 billion colours. Brightness is rated at 350 cd/m2, with a 4000:1 contrast ratio and a 178° viewing angle, so text and diagrams stay readable from the back of a room. The panel includes an ambient light sensor, and its heat-tempered, anti-glare glass is rated 9H on the pencil scale.

Touch uses Vellum writing technology with 15 continuous touch points, 1 mm touch accuracy and a 100 Hz scan rate. The pen is battery-less, and palm detection is supported. The panel does not tell pen input apart from finger touch, so teachers and presenters should agree how they will use the pen before the first lesson.

Built-in computing, connections and compatibility

Computing: Android 8 (Oreo), 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage and a quad-core processor.
Video inputs: two rear HDMI 2.0 inputs, one front HDMI 2.0 input, plus VGA and CVBS.
Expansion: one OPS slot for a plug-in computer module. The box includes a mini PC bracket, but no OPS module is listed.
Network and control: 10/100 Mbps LAN in and out, RS-232, Wake-on-LAN and an included 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 Wi-Fi module.
Audio: two front speakers at 15 W each, microphone input and headphone output.

The panel supports Windows 8 to 10, OS X 10.8 to 10.11, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Chrome OS. The 75-inch model is listed as Energy Star certified, with CE, FCC, IC, UL, CUL, CB and RCM approvals.

Where a 75-inch ActivPanel fits in Qatar

A 75-inch panel suits a mid-sized classroom, a training room or a meeting room. A private school in Al Rayyan refitting its classrooms can use one panel to write and annotate lessons, run Android apps and show material from a laptop over HDMI. An office in West Bay that connects Doha teams with colleagues abroad can use it for presentations and joint annotation of shared files. A training centre in Education City can run group workshops where several people write at the same time, using the 15 touch points.

What to plan before ordering

The operating range is 0°C to 40°C, with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Summer temperatures in Qatar can pass 45°C, so install the panel in an air-conditioned room, away from windows and direct sunlight, and check the room's cooling with your installer before ordering. The panel weighs 64 kg net and measures 1767 x 1093 x 106 mm, with a 600 x 400 mm VESA mount point. A site survey is recommended before wall mounting. Maximum power draw is 380 W, and standby draw is 0.5 W or less. The input rating is 100V to 240V AC, and the box includes a 3 m regional power cable, so confirm the plug suits BS 1363 sockets before ordering.

Questions about AP7-U75

Is the Promethean AP7-U75 still sold?

No. Promethean has discontinued the AP7-U75, the 75-inch model in the ActivPanel Nickel line of the ActivPanel Elements series. SmartRooms Qatar can still take a quote request for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement, and we will confirm the closest match for your room within the quotation, usually within one working day.

What should we choose as a replacement for the AP7-U75?

Ask SmartRooms Qatar for a quote on a current equivalent or a compatible replacement. Match what this model provides: 75-inch 4K resolution, 350 cd/m2 brightness, built-in Android computing, and an OPS slot if you need an internal computer. If you already have wall brackets with a 600 x 400 mm VESA pattern, confirm the replacement fits them before ordering.

Which rooms in Qatar suit a 75-inch Promethean panel?

A 75-inch panel suits a mid-sized classroom, a training room or a meeting room. A school in Al Rayyan fitting out one classroom can use it for writing, annotating and showing Android apps from a single screen. For a large lecture hall, the 86-inch size is the better fit.

Is the screen bright enough for rooms with daylight?

The panel is rated at 350 cd/m2 with a 4000:1 contrast ratio and a 178° viewing angle, and it includes an ambient light sensor and anti-glare glass. In an office in West Bay with large windows, place the panel away from direct sun and close blinds during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Can the panel handle Qatar's summer heat?

The operating range is 0°C to 40°C with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45°C, so install the panel in an air-conditioned room, away from windows, and never inside a closed cabinet. Confirm the room's cooling capacity with your installer before ordering.

Which computers and operating systems can connect to it?

The panel supports Windows 8 to 10, OS X 10.8 to 10.11, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Chrome OS. Staff can connect a laptop over HDMI to show its content and annotate over it, while the built-in Android 8 system runs the panel's own apps.

What is the OPS slot for, and is an OPS module included?

The AP7-U75 has one OPS slot, which accepts a plug-in computer module so you can run a PC inside the panel. The box includes a mini PC bracket, but no OPS module is listed in the contents. Confirm module compatibility with SmartRooms Qatar before ordering.

What comes in the box?

The box includes the panel, a remote control with two batteries, a 3 m HDMI cable, a 3 m USB A-B cable, a 3 m regional power cable, a battery-less pen, the wall mount, a mini PC bracket with screws, M6 VESA screws, the Wi-Fi module with two antennas, and a quick install guide. ActivInspire Professional is listed as included.

How heavy is the panel, and do we need a site survey before wall mounting?

The panel weighs 64 kg net and 88.7 kg packed, and measures 1767 x 1093 x 106 mm with a 600 x 400 mm VESA mount point. For a building in Msheireb, a site survey helps confirm wall structure, bracket position and lifting access before installation. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys.

What power does it need, and will it work with Qatar sockets?

The input rating is 100V to 240V AC. Maximum power draw is 380 W for the 75-inch model, and standby draw is 0.5 W or less. Qatar mains supply is 240 V at 50 Hz with BS 1363 sockets, so check that the included 3 m regional power cable suits BS 1363 before you order.

Does the pen need a battery, and can the panel tell pen and touch apart?

The pen is battery-less. Touch uses Vellum writing technology with 15 continuous touch points, and palm detection is supported. The panel does not differentiate pen input from finger touch, so agree on how the pen will be used in lessons or meetings before the first session.

Can a school order several units under one purchase order?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs), and one quotation request can cover several units for a school. Because this model is discontinued, ask for a current equivalent in the same quote so that classroom panels match in size and connectivity. Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order.
