What the AP9-B75 is and where it stands

The AP9-B75 is the 75-inch model in Promethean's ActivPanel 9 Premium series, a large interactive display built for teaching, training and boardroom presentations. Promethean has discontinued this model and announced its end of sale. Organisations that already run one, and buyers comparing it with newer panels, should request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement.

Picture quality and touch behaviour

The 4K UHD panel runs at 3840 x 2160 and 60 Hz across a 1652 x 930 mm active area in a 16:9 format. A direct LED backlight provides 400 cd/m² brightness and a 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, while the 178° viewing angle keeps text readable from the side seats of a room. Touch registers 20 points at once with 1 mm accuracy and a response time of 5 ms or less. Palm rejection works for both writing and non-writing hands, so a teacher can rest a hand on the glass while annotating.

Computing, connectivity and room integration

ActivPanel OS, an Android-based system, runs with 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The rear of the panel offers two HDMI inputs (versions 2.0 and 2.1), a DisplayPort 1.2 input and a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port that supplies 100 W Power Delivery to a connected laptop. Other ports include a front HDMI 2.0 input, one OPS slot for an OPS computing module, 1 Gbps LAN in and out, and Wi-Fi supporting 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax with Bluetooth 5.0. Two 18 W front speakers and a 15 W subwoofer work with a microphone array for lessons and meetings. The design has no fan.

Where it fits across Qatar

The 75-inch size suits mid-sized rooms rather than large halls. Three realistic scenarios:

A private school in Al Wakrah fitting out classrooms where Arabic and English lessons run side by side, using the front HDMI input for a visiting teacher's laptop.
A training centre in Education City equipping workshop rooms with the integrated pen tray and four pens so groups can annotate in turn.
A corporate boardroom in West Bay connecting presenters' laptops over HDMI or USB-C and sharing files directly from the panel.

What to plan before ordering

At 57.8 kg net and 78.5 kg packed, the panel needs at least two people to lift and a wall or stand rated for its weight. The VESA pattern is 800 x 400 mm and four M6 screws are in the box. Panel dimensions are 1730 x 1070 x 86 mm. A qualified installer should fit it, and SmartRooms Qatar recommends a free site survey before any wall mounting. The panel is rated for 0 °C to 40 °C with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Qatar summer temperatures can exceed 45 °C, so it should sit in an air-conditioned room away from direct sun and dusty entrances. Confirm room conditions with our team before ordering. Typical power draw is 163 W, standby draw is 0.5 W or less, and the rated supply range covers 100 to 240 V AC.

Questions about AP9-B75

Is the Promethean AP9-B75 still sold?

No. Promethean has discontinued the AP9-B75 and announced its end of sale. SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement for your room, and quotations usually arrive within one working day. If you already run this 75-inch panel, send us your room plan and we will suggest the closest current option.

What screen size and resolution does the AP9-B75 have?

The AP9-B75 is a 75-inch display with a 4K UHD panel at 3840 x 2160 resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate. Its active display area measures 1652 x 930 mm, and the panel itself measures 1730 x 1070 x 86 mm. The 16:9 format suits lesson slides, spreadsheets and video playback in a mid-sized room.

Is the 75-inch model right for a classroom in Qatar?

For a mid-sized classroom, usually yes. A private or Arabic-curriculum school in Al Wakrah or Al Rayyan fitting out a classroom gets a larger writing surface than the 65-inch model without the space demands of the 86-inch. The 178° viewing angle and 400 cd/m² brightness help students seated at the sides.

How does the 75-inch compare with the 65-inch and 86-inch versions?

The 75-inch sits between the two. Its display area is 1652 x 930 mm, against 1429 x 804 mm for the 65-inch and 1895 x 1066 mm for the 86-inch. It has 8 GB of RAM, where the 65-inch has 6.5 GB and the 86-inch matches it. Typical power draw is 163 W, compared with 111 W and 194 W.

Can it be installed in a sunny lobby or outdoor covered area in Qatar?

Not without checks. The operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity, and Qatar summer temperatures can exceed 45 °C. Keep it in an air-conditioned room away from direct sun, glazing and dust. Confirm the room conditions and cooling with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.

What ports and expansion does it offer for laptops and media players?

The rear has two HDMI inputs (one 2.0, one 2.1), a DisplayPort 1.2 input and a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port with 100 W Power Delivery, which can power a connected laptop. The front adds an HDMI 2.0 input and two USB-A 3.2 ports. There is one OPS slot for an OPS computing module, plus 1 Gbps LAN in and out and an HDMI output.

Does it work with Windows, Mac and Chromebooks?

It supports Windows 7 to 11, Mac OS 10.8 to 10.11, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Chrome OS. Gestures and edge swipes are supported on Windows. Wi-Fi covers 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax with Wi-Fi 6 and dual band, and Bluetooth 5.0 is included. Check your operating system version before ordering, especially for older Mac hardware.

What comes in the box?

The box includes the panel, a remote control with batteries, four pens, a block eraser, a wall mount, four M6 VESA screws, a 3 m regional power cable, a 3 m HDMI cable, a 3 m USB A-B cable, a 2 m USB-C cable, two NFC cards, and a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module with three antennae. An ActivInspire Professional education software licence is included.

How heavy is it and what wall support does it need?

The panel weighs 57.8 kg net and 78.5 kg packed, so it needs at least two people to lift and a wall or stand rated for that load. The VESA mount pattern is 800 x 400 mm. A free site survey from SmartRooms Qatar lets us check the wall, cable route and access before a qualified installer fixes the panel.

Can a school or ministry order several units through an LPO or tender?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. For a school fitting out several 75-inch rooms, send the room list with your request so the quotation covers each unit. Delivery covers all 8 municipalities of Qatar.

Will a 240 V supply in Qatar work with this panel?

The panel is rated for 100 to 240 V AC, so a 240 V supply falls within its rated range. A 3 m regional power cable is included. Typical power draw is 163 W, and standby draw is 0.5 W or less. Ask your electrician to confirm the outlet and circuit during the site survey, and we can include any extra cabling in the quotation.
